no worry, Gigi is declared as fit to face Scotland.  rclxms.gif

Perrotta also went thru the training without any problem, so he gonna b fit.

btw FIGC n Puma had signed a new deal. so the Azzurri's shirts will continue to b Puma's until 2014.

Italy needed a win to keep their hopes alive of qualifying for the Euro 2008, and the Azzurri did not disappoint. Despite not playing a great game and only showing their real strength in the first part of the second half, Italy deserved the win which will surely be fundamental for their chances of going through.

Italy started slowly their first half, but despite this still managed to take the lead after just 12 minutes, thanks to an Odd free-kick from the right hand side which Toni headed in easily.

watched the 2nd half of the match with streaming quality via sopcast.

we play with Di Natale & Toni upfront? kinda shocked but Di Natale quite good ya. watch him for 10min & few times dribble past the scot defender. btw, where is Gillardino?

we play without Pirlo in starting 11 but Perrotta & De Rossi showed a good combination.

hope Azzurri can continue this kind of performance thumbup.gif

Euro2004 is good example where Italy failed to get past Group stage becoz totti was suspended. In his only match against denmark he was great! WC2006, where he is not completely fit but still against ukraine made valuble assist to zambrotta. in SF he was good. Obviously Euro2000 was his best tournament, despite being on loosing side he was named Man of the MAtch in the final and described by many football legends, including michael platini, as the best player of the tournament. People who said do i really watch 'soccer' should shut thair holes!

Totti and Del piero have proved that a good club player is not necssarily a good natinal team player. They both are kings at their club level but no one can question their ability to fail deliver at the international level. They've been given numerous chances to shine.. (e.g. Dp in 98 and Totti in 02).. yet they've always failed to prove themselves. Other than a few glimbses of greatness in 98 by del piero and a few other occasions by Totti in 2002, i dont recall an outstanding match that they played for the natinal team at any point of time. Plz remember that Totti is someone who said, 'Roma comes first, and the natinal team comes second'... saying that alone makes such a great player, Totti, look like worm in the eyes of many Azzuri fans. Refusing to play for the natinal team when you are on the run for a Golden Ball means you think your 'too good' to play for Italy, or your just a pure selfless snob!.. in either case, you are not getting more fans! Italy cannot be host for euro 2012
this is the news about the bid,

Italy had already hosted the European Football Championship finals in 1968 and 1980, and also hosted the FIFA World Cup in 1934 and 1990.

The Italian bid appeared to be the most solid of the three due to Italy's generally excellent transportation infrastructure, the wide availability of lodging for visiting fans, and the Italian football association's past experience in organizing final rounds. None of the other short-list candidates had ever hosted the finals of a major football tournament independently or as part of a joint bid, with the partial exception of Croatia. Also, the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin demonstrated the Italian ability to host a sporting event comparable to the Euro in magnitude. Italy's current status of World Cup holder was also thought to be a positive factor.

However, the recent scandal in Italy's first division and the football-related violence in Catania, which led to the death of police officer Filippo Raciti and revealed safety deficiencies in many stadia, have damaged the overall standing of Italian football. Yet the Italian government's resolve to assist football authorities in solving the problem - e.g., by introducing anti-hooliganism laws and allocating funds to immediate safety improvement measures in stadia - gave hope that it might partially mitigate the risk to Italy's Euro bid. Another minor risk was potential apathy of domestic fans after repeatedly re-using the same host nation, though 22 years would have elapsed since the last major tournament at home if Italy was selected to host Euro 2012.

The hosts were chosen on April 18, 2007 in Cardiff, Wales. The results of the voting are:

Poland/Ukraine (8 votes, winner)
Italy (4 votes, eliminated)
Croatia/Hungary (0 votes, eliminated)

Angry Milan fan puts keeper Dida up for sale

QUOTE
ROME, April 27 (Reuters) - An angry AC Milan fan put Brazil goalkeeper Dida up for sale on the internet ahead of next week's Champions League semi-final return with Manchester United.

The 33-year-old, who joined Milan in 2000, was a hero after the shootout win over Juventus in the 2003 Champions League final but his popularity has slumped after a series of errors.

He was criticised following last week's 3-2 first-leg defeat to United at Old Trafford, when he flapped a Cristiano Ronaldo header into his own net and then left his near post exposed for Wayne Rooney to blast home a stoppage-time winner.

Dida failed to attract great interest on eBay. The price, before the Brazilian international was removed from the auction site on Friday, had reached 71 euros ($96.66) after 25 bids.

Peruzzi hangs up his gloves

Lazio goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi has confirmed this will be his final season before retirement.

"I made this decision in January," he told Sky Italia television after the 0-0 draw with Roma this afternoon.

"Not only was this my last Rome derby, but it could well be my last game in Serie A. I am going to retire."

The shot-stopper was born in Viterbo on February 16, 1970 and made his top flight debut for Roma back in December 1987 at San Siro.

=====================================================

as much as i dislike him as a Lazio player, Peruzzi deserves respect as 1 of the finest Italian GK we had seen for more than psat 10 years. All the best to him.

Buffon Praises Peruzzi

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has hailed Lazio keeper Angelo Peruzzi after hearing he is soon to retire.

"I have known Angelo for a long time and we have shared many things together," Buffon told Sky Italia. "This is a sad day for the fans and I because he represented Italian football. He is a fantastic person and a great goalkeeper.

"Together we have been through the last World Cup and the European Championship in Portugal. Every now and then I thought that having a keeper like him on the bench was a waste.

"He is a true great on and off the pitch, and even if I was the regular in the Nazionale I felt sorry for him. It's so unfair that someone like him never had the chance to play a full World Cup," said Buffon.

"The truth after all is this: he never played a World Cup as first choice and I believe Angelo fully deserved it," concluded the World Cup winner.

Peruzzi revealed his decision to leave the football scene after last Sunday's Roman derby against Roma. Many others have expressed their surprise and disappointment over the former Juventus player's decision.
