Quagliarella, 24, is considered one of Italy's best young strikers and has scored 11 goals in Serie A this season.

Other players rewarded for their recent good form were the Milan duo of Massimo Ambrosini and Daniele Bonera.

Midfielder Ambrosini has been crucial in Milan's drive for a place in next season's Champions League.

On Sunday he headed the winner in a 1-0 victory over Atalanta. He also headed in winning goals in league games against Siena and Sampdoria last month.

Defender Bonera was used by former Italy coaches Giovanni Trapattoni and Marcello Lippi, but had never previously been called up by Donadoni.

Italy are third in group B with seven points from four matches, two points behind leaders Scotland.

Pazzini opened the scoring in the first minute of the friendly then grabbed two equalisers in the second half after the hosts had dragged themselves back into the game.

De Sanctis will be Italy's third-choice keeper behind Buffon and Torino's Christian Abbiati.

Buffon's absence would be a big blow to the world champions ahead of Wednesday's game.

Instead of taking advantage of Scotland's psychological moment following the goal, the Azzurri preferred to control the match without pushing too much on the accelerator, whereas Scotland lacked any ideas to really worry Gigi Buffon and his rear-guard, apart from some interesting movements by Miller.

In the second half, Donadoni's side started playing more aggressively and in the space of the first 15 minutes had already created 4 clear cut chances, two of which brought Di Natale all alone in front of Gordon, but the Scottish keeper saved his net in both occasions.

Scotland was powerless in front of the world champions as the Italians grew in confidence and eventually found the net with Toni again in the 70th minute.
