Magnet shielding at speaker is to prevent affect the CRT monitor and some other device sensitive to magnetic field.

Mobile phone interference is high frequency electromagnetic wave that will goes through your speaker signal cable or amplifier and amplify out to speaker.

Hi I recently bought R501 edifier was wondering is it possible to connect the 5.1 surround sound to the tv or the surround sound only works for pc.

As I am only getting sound from the front speakers.

And i created a topic and gotten several advice from members in lowyat that both using different format analog for pc speakers and my tv is using optical..

Is it possible for me to get a device to allow my tv to get the surround sound? As i read online that i can get a device to do so.

Yea I did read on your input however nismo 91 posted:

you can't get 5.1 sound from your R501 using TV, PS3 or macbookpro. the R501 is designed to be a PC speaker, it uses 5.1 analog connection. while your TV, PS3 or macbook only supports digital 5.1 connection (optical spdif)

so best bet is you can only get stereo sound from 3 devices simultaneously.

So I thought that i was not able to get the back speakers working because of the wrong audio output. Was wondering if i could get something like this http://www.amazon.com/FiiO-D3-Digital-Conv...0190551-2536661 to fix the problem?

that dac can only converts stereo signal. you still can't get 5.1 sound using those. only those dac or more specifically decoder can decode dolby digital / dts signal into 5.1 channel analog that R501 supports.

thats for speaker output... it's like saying 'why batteries must have 2 poles, plus and minus poles'
same case...

wires that have no headphone jack are for speakers to speakers
wires that has that 3.5mm headphone jack are for PC to speakers

pictures should help what you don't understand

the box and the instruction manual should have the full instructions. why are you struggling?

Your connection should be
Front speakers/Rear speakers/Centre --> Subwoofer and from Subwoofer, you should got 3 cable with 3.5MM Jack to receive input. Those goes to the 3 3.5mm port
