The only reason Apple put the sorry a$$ camera is for Facetime. The camera is seriously pathetic but as mentioned by previous posters, you should know this already before you purchase the iPad 2. It was out in the US for the last month or so and a lot of reviews been out concerning the sorry a$$ camera (wait, that's 2 times already I mentioned the sorry a$$ camera)

The back camera is 0.7MP while the front is 10 year old technology of a 0.3MP VGA camera ... my daughter loves the photobooth program though so I guess that's not too bad.

I thought the camera is the same or not better than iphone4. I use an iPhone4 and its camera is actually quite impressive.

First of all

When iPad 2 come out , there are tons and tons of review saying that iPad 2 camera suxx

Second , HD recording is meant for 720p and not 1080p lol ! So dont hope much and 720p is already considered as HD

Third , im sure that you've done some survey before buying iPad 2 and you should know that it is 0.7 MP

Forth , since you all are complaining about the camera , den y buy iPad 2 ? Why not just wait for iPad 3 to come out ?

Its kinda annoying seeing ppl keep posting about iPad 2 camera suxx here and there as it is already clarified since the date of launch - ITS CAMERA IS THE DOWNSIDE !

facetime video conferencing generally requires 2 to 4 Mbps of network bandwidth.
u can try that with yes 4g connection as claimed more than enough.

You know what Apple should introduce iPad + high spec cameras and market it as the top of the range ipad product. Make it an option if the customer wants it. I would not mind paying the extra sum as I wanted to have the iPad capabilities with a decent camera...all in one. I do not have to bring along my camera nor my laptop..just the "high spec" iPad...that'll be great!..

Like I said, it's not possible to put a 5MP camera sensor onto the iPad because its just too thin.. And this is based on their previous camera manufacturer's sensor.. If you have did some reading with ifixit in the past you would know this.. Maybe with Sony as their new camera sensor manufacturer, things could change.. But putting an option for an iPad with good camera? Do you even know why iPad is successful in the first place? It the pricing and none other than that.. By having another line of iPad with better camera means you need to have separate manufacturing techs and another line of iPad with extra components which I am sure would bump up the price by at least double even if it's viable.. With that price, ppl rather go for other tablets then and Apple can't even sell it properly..

Who in the right mind would want to use a giant tablet to take photos or videos??? Seriously. It looks really retarded. Especially since most smartphones are equipped with really good cameras and are much more practical to use. The cameras on the ipad (for now) i believe is just for facetiming. Maybe by the time the next ipad comes out, hardware costs will have gone down to the extent where they can afford to put in a better quality camera lens and sensor on it. :3 then we all can look retarded together taking photos and vids with tablets when that time comes. Lol

Well if it is because limitation of technology I can understand that. Who knows in future, Apple may surprise us with a thinner idevice WITH megapixel cam. 10 years ago, I could not imagine the existent of ipad. If Apple managed to do this, I think there will be a market for person like yours truly.. as I do not want to bring along bulky camera not to mention lenses etc..kinda feel sorry for those guys bringing alongg the camera + bagages of lenses and accessories. The price will go down if there are demand for such products.

Just that at the moment the resolution is low which is just a limitation of technology. Since the iPad2 is sold out everywhere, theoretically you can find a retard or two in every nooks and corners taking pictures..

Dont take it the wrong way. Im not saying anyone who uses the ipad 2 as his primary camare retards, they just look like one when they do. Haha!! And trust me, we've all been there. Ive tested it out with my friends at mcdonalds and let them have a go at it as well when i got my ipad 2. We had a good laugh about it and sorry to say, it seriously looks retarded. Haha!! But yeah, i wouldnt mind it having a better camera, who wouldnt. :3
