How to see improvement the headphone? Isn't can using direct to sound card or need amp (cmoy)?
*
its better to use an amp, u'll gain almost nothing even if you used a better card with the Headphone.

Guys and Gals, hear me out.

After what i've been through, i've been thinking should i dump/sell off the Philips HP1000 and get either a neutral sounding AKG K701/Dark Sennheiser HD650 plus a good amp OR keep the HP1000 and get a set of gigaworks. I' actually looking for something that is neutral, flat, no-unneccessary colorization when paired with my EMU0404. This way i get a more comfortable listening.

Apparently, the HP1000 is not comfortable enough for me because of the bright characteristics. However, i must say the wide soundstage the HP1000 offers is really astounding, and they sound really fine when i play country songs.

what say you? The gigaworks + emu0404 combo is really appealing (according to a friend), and it's hard to decide between headphones OR speakers this way sad.gif

You have gotta try some other phones then  sweat.gif
The HP1000 has a noticably worse seperation and soundstage compared to a HD595
And the HD595 isnt really great in soundstaging
*
hmmmmmmmmmmmm

i was expecting something else rather than comments on the HP1000.

How is the AKG K701 compared to the HP1000?

i'm thinking maybe i should get the HD555 from you first, sell off the HP1000 and then save up for either an AKG K701 or HD650

But seriously, when is anyone going to suggest me anything? I sense gas + sparks here sad.gif

No issue. How's the conditions of your HP1000?
If it's in good, you may fetching quite high price by snapping few photos, do some clean up on every part and the ear pad as well.
*
condition = good

the "new stuff" smell is still there.

I'll snap pics later

Before that, i'm going to give it a chance one more time

Just realised from your sig that you have a PA2V2 !
Lol, i thought u were running unamped... sweat.gif

Does the amp give a big improvement to the HP1000?
*
i guess you already got that answered, I probably have ears made out of plastics.

Performance difference are probably around 25-30% increase with two warm sources (Sony A1000 + PA2V2)

Grados are known to be bright, if paired with another bright source (EMU0404) would become a disaster. I don't think it's a good combination at all.

Yeah, but other's preferences and opinions do not help/matter to PowerSlide, you did not even relate your suggestions to his questions and situation. I believe he's going to use the EMU0404 for his headphones.

EDIT: Messed up a few words LOL.

there are only 2 kinds of iem sound signature in the market,

1) bassy with rolled off highs
2) clear with rolled off bass

There is only one IEM that I'd put my money into - er4. The im716 should be similar to the er4, and it's alot cheaper, that's why I've considered getting it.

When you are ready to get them and if you need me to help u get a pair or im716, just shoot me a pm. I might not buy it for myself but I *might* be able to get my friend to send a pair back to you.

Frankly, i never knew Altec Lansing makes good IEMs. I want to replace my KSC 75 with a nice IEM but i cant seem to find any good ones that beats the KSC 75 by a large margin. My priority now is to replace the KSC 75 with something that isnt a full sized headphone and do not require amping. Any suggestions?? biggrin.gif

Honestly, if you want bloated and heavy bass, headphones are not for you. You could try some nicely priced 2.1 Multimedia speakers in the market that comes with a subwoofer. That way you get to at least "feel the bass". biggrin.gif

how can i accept it?  sweat.gif
i was listening with a mp3 device (SE K750I) sweat.gif

sorry for not explain for the earlier... but thanks for your suggestion  notworthy.gif
*
ah, no wonder. The SE K750 is not a good source for any decent music playback. The source is much more important than the headphone itself.(puts on anti-flame suit) I wouldnt be suprised if it's the SE K750 that distorted the bass.

Anyway, you can get a Philips SHP895 at around that price. However, it does not have large quantity of bass and tends to sound a little bright. I hope sound quality is what you are looking for otherwise i could not think of any other headphones that suits your budge nicely.

Well he could try the portapro. It's pretty bass-heavy yet doesn't sacrifice a lot of things. Hehe. Budget headphones. And it's portable too. Just gotta get used to the retro look (for me, I actually like them-doesn't look like some lame Sony tongue.gif)

Using it as my backup headphones currently. Still like it. Though if you listen to a lot of insturmental and the likes, it'd be difficult to appreciate the portapro.

I don't think the 895 is portable enough for outdoor use (which is what I'm assuming JAYworm is using it for). Heck, even in ACed environment, it can get pretty warm wearing the 895.
*
But the portapros are old tongue.gif and i've seen some head-fi members that would prefer the KSC 75 over the portapros. biggrin.gif

Either way would be fine. I guess he has to compromise a little.

Wait a min, i'm getting irritated by his spamming too  dry.gif

The Altec Lansings are supposed to be by Etymotic actually, that's why they're good  tongue.gif
Initial rumors were that they're the exact same thing as the ER-4, but now its supposed to be a little inferior but pretty good
Plus it has a "bass mode" or something that u can switch for added bass, suitable for the mainstream market i guess

What kinda IEMs are u looking for?
*
I'm looking for something to replace the KSC 75. So i thought why not tryout those noise isolating IEMs? However, i'm still open to other portable phones that are easy to drive. Initially i was looking at the PX200 but i have yet to find one good and positive review on it. How dissappointing.

The KSC 75 is reasonably good at it's price but it's too bright and harsh to me.

QUOTE(AlamakLor @ Jul 13 2006, 11:51 AM)
They don't make good iems, ety does. All Altec is good at making now is portable speaker to market those ipodtards.

The ksc75 will still sound tonally better than the er4/im716 (if it sounds like the er4), but still significantly brighter than the er4. I cannot recall if er6 is brighter or ksc75 is brighter on the extreme highs, but I know er6 is very irritating, the ksc75 could be as irritating as the er6 if it wasnt that the ksc75 has a better midrange and bass...IIRC, the er6 is like the ksc75...with even less bass, and a more colored mid.

The er4 is good, you can hear some details that are not easily heard on the 650, but...the mid range coloration on the er4 could be irritating if you are already used to the 650's tone. The er4's mid range will sound alot more upfront and clear compared to the 650 (which i think its midrange is very very laid back and tad harsh). The bass is a joke if you compare it to the 650 laugh.gif and that's the best ety could do for now.
*
Sigh, this probably means i will still stick to the KSC 75 for sometime.

The Koss KSC 75 didnt sound awfully harsh and bright to me during day time use. However it gets very obvious during night listening sessions. That's why i want to get something else to replace it. I am probably very used to sennheiser's warm, laid back signature.

Again, anyone has any suggestions which kind of portable phones should i get to replace the KSC 75?

Thank You biggrin.gif

Hello Chung Ling Boy smile.gif (outsiders who do not understand F**k Off tongue.gif LOL)

For a budget around RM120, i'd say top up abit and get a SHP895, PX100 from DAVis, or just get the KSC 75

If you want to know how the KSC 75 sounds, you can meet me up at school. I have a few friends who own the KSC 75 as well. They seem to like it so far biggrin.gif

About the SHP 895 and PX100, you can refer to both threads below

http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=202749&hl=

http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=224186&hl=

While i'm sure DAVis still has loads of SHP 895 for sale, i'm not sure if he has any PX100 left.

Good Luck.

seriously, none of us here would recommend you any IEMs at that price range. The KSC 75 would be a better/best choice if you are looking for good cans that sounds good at a cheap price smile.gif
