Needs roughly are as follows.Suggestions, comments and all are greatly appreciated smile.gif

-RM350+/- (max of around 400 I suppose)
-Headphone (preferably) / can be clipons to I guess . Not buds
-Mainly and mostly music. Some gaming and movie watching.
-Prefer balanced sound, not overwhelming bass.Clarity and quality is the concern.

give this person a HD555 please.

I'd say go hit the Sennheiser's HD555. A very good buy IMO.

sorry for disturbing again but..
can u explain to me about the "quality" and "quantity" you mentioned? notworthy.gif
*
Quality = he means the lower frequencies goes deep and sounds tight/sweet without distortion.

Quantity = emphasizes on the lower frequencies, and gives out a larger amount of bass.

supazta, forget either and do what i did.

HP1000 *jumps!* to HD650 biggrin.gif

Okay, seriously, the HD555 should be better than the HD515. I don't think anyone can accept a significant downgrade.

okay guys, i think it's time i turn to this thread for some help.

My father uses his Mp3 player frequently now after he got a cheap and decent one. I feel he deserves a better ear phone and not the crappy stock ones.

Initially, i thought of KSC 75 due to the awesome cheap price. But he didnt like it because it was too troublesome for him to put them on.

He likes the mx500 design type of ear phones better than anything else. So i was wondering if other than MX500 and MX550 do i have any other choices?

Heh, althought it's not his birthday, i feel like giving him something.

Er... Does he like plug in ones? A Shure E500 would be a good one. tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif
*
lol, no, he doesnt like IEMs. Now let's stay on topic before i have second thoughts about not having IEMs....tongue.gif

KCS75 is quite comfortable for me, at least
*
Yeah it's comfortable. But to me if the wheather gets hot, it gets sort of nasty. I suggest anyone who wears it frequently at hot places cleans the clip once in a while. It makes wearing them so much more comfortable this way.

So, anyone here knows anything else other than the MX500/MX550 or am i stuck here with them?

nway, when will full price of your bulk will be up walabies. really suffer of waiting.. tongue.gif

which headphone (for price < RM700) works best without amps?
*
low impedance beyers? or the senny HD595 biggrin.gif

EDIT: Grados and Allesandros too, because all of their phones are low impedance.

But KSC75 is somewhat 'bassy'. Though it's really nice for vocals etc, not to worry.

you don't have any choice below RM100 sad.gif

Currently, I am thinking of either these 2 options.

1) Etymotic ER-6i AND Sennheiser HD 555  biggrin.gif

2) Shure E500 PTH  flex.gif

Option 1 is much cheaper than 2 as well and I will gain two new 'phones instead of one.

Is Shure E500 THAT good to justify the price?

Should I pick option 1 or 2?
*
i'd go with the Shure if you don't plan to go full desktop setup/transportable setup. That means only go for the Shure if you want a portable setup with a portable amp.

Shures and Etymotics are like Grados and Sennheisers, they are really different. You should really know which sound signature you like best before you purchase anything.

EDIT: Found out that the IM716 is slightly more expensive than the ER6i tongue.gif, i guess unless the IM716 sounds significantly better than the ER6i, otherwise it does not worth that extra money.

Btw, I'm not planning to get any sort of amp. I hate amps.
*
Technically, your DAP has in internal amplifier too, just crappier than the external ones. tongue.gif

Anyway, since you don't want an external amp to go with your DAP, i'd suggest you spend all moolah on a single high end IEM that you find the most interesting/good sounding. Full sized cans requires an amp due to their lower efficiency.

Do try out the IM716 too, you might like it biggrin.gif. It's cheap and sound close to the ER4s, what's there to lose?

you greatly underestimated the KSC-75. Even after hearing Grado SR-60 (RM290) full headphones I can't tell the difference between them. JUst get them, don't look further unless you have Rm300+
*
i second this.

Plus, they are amazing when amped. The improvement was wayyy beyond my imagination when i first amped it.

even the CMOY amp? i want to get one also, but all the bulk stop now. anyone know how much in lowyat shop price? i hear in AllIT is 80RM?
if its correct, better go there n grab.
*
Since i use my KSC 75 as a white rat to test most of my diy amps, here's a little list of my experience with the KSC 75 when paired with different amps.

1) CMOY - improvement around 20%, hated how the 2227 sounded. Although much fuller and more details, but sounds fatiguing.

2) Sijosae Diamond Buffer with different topologies and variants - "wow" factor. Smooth highs, detailed, transparent, controlled speed. dead silent background. For the first time, the KSC 75 isnt really that fatiguing!

3) Full fledge diamond buffers - awesome, has almost the same sound signature as the 2nd one, but just ALOT more better.
