well, u got a seller who preinstalled many goodies for you.

also, this model with a big memory can handle a lot more things, incl 1080p in popcorn time.

the asus will provide better stability for wifi.
homeplug may help a bit too.
but dun count on either to make big diff in hd buffering.
becos the buffering may be due to something else - not yr broadband speed or wifi strength but geoblocks and other external restrictions.

play around it all yr new gear, u'll know what i mean.

afaik, there is no builtin screen saver for newer models. i tried playstore to get one, didnt find any suitable.

never mind, just dun fall asleep! i suppose u just go to the list of china live tv stations - if new, they'll show up; if not, the usual ones will probably air cny stuff anyway.

note hitv has returned with livetv. first check, it's incomplete, many channels not working. in general, contents about the same as hdplive.

having used 3 units of himedia in the last 1.5 yrs, i can say it is a good, reliable brand in terms of hardware quality and firmware support.

the trouble i see from the numerous posts of users looking for help and not getting any seems to be:

1.. bought unpopular models, few users, can't get help.
2.. bought from seller(s) who don't/can't support for long in terms of firmware and/or user apps.
3.. users not familiar with androids, thought they are like astro decoders on/off/press buttons; didn't spend time to learn

i do not know much about q1, dunno if it is a popular model; i know many users for q5ii, q5iii and q16 - dual and quad cores.

but from the specs, it looks fine. only thing is whether u will be able to get help and resources to upgrade firmwares and apps over time and keep them working nicely. imo, this is the most impt aspect of any androidtv box, more impt than this brand or that brand. becos tech is changing very quickly, firmwares and apps change all the time. if no help for 2 yrs, the box is as good as dead becos the old software wud be pretty much obsolete, wont work or work poorly.

i'm just suspecting....

Not sure about youtube as I hardly use it, but u can check at XBMC/Kodi.

Under system, settings, system, video output... Check if u can set to 1080p.

My q5ii can't, max is 720p. Q16 can. Explanation is different kernel, one is 720p, the other 1080p.

Don't know how it all works but local usb playback, 1080p ok for both.

that is not normal.

appears to me yr firmware and/or some apps corrupted or some conflict of launchers.

best u contact yr seller, get latest valid firmware for yr model.

flash to new firmware, reinstall all apps/apks, i.e. start all over again, no choice.

not possible to help if u dun tell all. this box like all androids is software driven, not astro push buttons...

see, these android makers come out with so many models, so many versions, so many chipsets as tech moves along - 4.0 ice cream/sandwich, 4.2 jelly bean, 4.4 kitkat and soon, 5.0 lollipop - so many variations, so many firmwares, so many app updates, etc.

which mean if u do not get tech support from origin, i.e. seller(s), hard to keep it going. and the trouble is himedia does not always put these firmware updates in public domains for anyone to dwnld, make available only to their sellers. for good reason, i suppose.

the problems u face, i can only suggest u go back to seller for solution. if u bought at roadside in china, tough...

i use q5ii and q16, all is good. becos the seller is active and supports them very well.


about electric shock, that is static. that is caused by yr power supply, 3 pin or whatever not well earthed.

hv tried a couple of free ones. they work when they work but keeps breaking, not recommended.

google n u can find some of these free ones to try.

in settings, go to "more", just below "ethernet".

key in the relevant info for that vpn.

some vpn's by using apk's not accepted - i think becos of some "kernel tunneling" restriction for this model.

think need to root the device, which i hv not tried.

i can suggest u get a basic understand of:
.. how androids work
.. which model or brand is best for you
.. will seller pre-install stuff for you, will u get continued support?
.. "football and movies" = do u mean premier league? english only movies? willing to pay?

lastly, unifi10 is good enough for most purposes. use of ethernet is always better than wifi.

this u-tube problem is a common one - dunno just for himedia or for all china made androids.
could be due to certain bans on certain things in china.
every time u change firmware (factory reset in yr case), it can happen.
this can also happen to google n playstore.
u need to install a patch file after new firmware.
so, before updating/resetting firmwares, better hv the right patch file too - which seller shud hv.


well, u still alt ways, incl what u mentioned... and xbmc/kodi.

himedia is not that different from other androids in terms of hardware.

i think what u r looking for are those pirate iptv service providers.

such iptv apps are not peculiar to any brand.

how good, where to get them... you need to search... some sellers are actively soliciting customers in relevant threads.
