Am running a Himedia Q8, works beautifully, upgrades done by dealer regularly, watch only English shows/movies/sports....BUT my Yes data bills have reached RM400 last month!!!!

Now with Wimbledon & F-1 my consumption will be bank-breaking!!!

Can any of you suggest a more economical way of buying data?

Now resorting to buying dvds to watch movies as cheaper @RM7/movie compared to RM15 [per 500mb] via Android, HELP
but not keen on TM services fyi....Thanks!

you are using pay by data usage for androidbox entertainment? shocking.gif

Just bought HiMedia Q8 last saturday, everything works great but found out that the screen didn't fill up my 40" full hd TV, it has a small black border around it. Kinda annoying.

Also found out that youtube and xbmc stuck at 720p eventhough the device can support up to 4k resolution. Any idea why?
*
that can't be normal. i do not know this model but u can try the different options under settings->display.

youtube - that's due to a technical issue for youtube and androidbox-hdmi:
http://repo.xposed.info/module/uk.co.villa...wfullscreenhdmi
http://android.stackexchange.com/questions...rom-youtube-app

you mean cannot set xbmc/kodi to 1080p at kodi/video/settings? for older/lower models, that's correct due to older hardware/kernel.
for newer quadcore 4.4, should be able to, like q16.
first, check yr device display settings at launcher page.

Go to the setting page, there is somewhere you can set the screen size under display option, go to "display area set".
Follow the instruction.

thank you, i have fix the border issue by setting the display area.
This Q8 actually a new device release this year, same spec with q16 except the eMMC size only 8gb instead of 16gb but not sure why they using
720p kernel instead of 1080p.

Also just found out a lot of app like Iflix, Astro On The Go and HypTV everywhere cant be use/work properly with this device. Thinking to sell it and buy
different brand, but not sure if Minix can support all the apps.
*
u probably would hv been better off with q16 - the larger memory is required for some bigger apps like popcorntime, less concern for running out of space.

for aotg, hypptv, etc... my experience has been:

- aotg works on older models with jellybean 4.2 but not on kitkat 4.4; works on tablets, ipads
- hypp - used to work on all models but now works on none; works on tablets, ipads

i can only conclude either the apps are too old or the newer firmwares/hardware left some old apps incompatible - similar to the youtube 1080p hdmi output issue.

to be sure the apps u want will work, u do need to reconfirm with users and knowledgeable sellers.

one app i recommend u try on yr q8 is this iptv:
http://tvapp.so/

it did NOT work on the q16 until the latest firmware arrived last week. it's a good app, try it.

Hi,

May I know how to uninstal HiTV and imgoTV from Himedia tv box?  I can't view these 2 apps from the Uninstall app.
*
these two are linked with the firmware as they are kind of "proprietory" to manufacturer - the apks will not work on other devices.

u need not worry. if they r not listed in settings/apps, they r just residing dormant within the allocated memory.

other that just junking the thumbnail at launcher, no need to do anything else.

Hi. I need help getting 1.09 for Q16 quad core. managed to locate the baidu site but stuck trying to download...I banana with Chinese...seems like what got downloaded is a baidu program. anyone can share their 1.09? thanks.
*
1.0.9 is fine. main fix is it is now good for tvapp.so; others fixes are minor.

public sites is not the best way to get firmware - chance of malware, plus possibility of "china" version - u may run into playstore and youtube non-access.

the file is a few hundred mb. preferred way is to get from yr seller.

Hello everyone,
I've got a HIMEDIA Q3 Quad core with the 1.0.7 firmware. I've downloaded the 1.0.9 firmware called update.zip. I've copied it on a USB key And choosen local upgrade : It tells me " No Upgrade File". Have I done something wrong or it's not the way to upgrade ?
*
check:

.. the 1.0.9 is the correct version for yr model
.. check the size (mb) is completely downloaded, not partial
.. the zip file must not be unzipped, must be placed at the root level of the usb drive, not inside any folder

with above, local upgrade should detect it.

one small possibility, u pointed to the wrong drive...?

when i click on "About" on my Q3 it is written : HMD-1.0.7 2015-01-13.095327. I've downloaded several times the Q3 1.0.9 firmware, thinking it was incomplete. But my box don't want to upgrade. It says " no upgrade file". Is there a link where i couls download a working firmware for my Q3 ?
*
do u know if yr model is emmc or non emmc?

the firmwares are diff for emmc, non-emmc and chinese or english, e.g.:

update_dualcore_Q5.zip
update_dualcore_Q5_en_emmc.zip

u can try renaming the files, but there is risk u end up with something u don't want, be warned! sweat.gif

i suggest u contact yr seller and get some info first.

if bought in china on yr own, tough.

q3 is not a popular model here, btw.

It's really unwatchable, and yet it seems unifi users don't have issues?

mgtv - try changing to sd mode.

hd mode does not work well most of the time but sd mode is usually ok.

i suspect there is some geoblock for this app outside china.

I only watch English, but I'm trying to demo the player for my In-Laws who only watch Mandarin/Cantonese shows.

Cantonese - tough. Mostly in mandarin.

There are plenty, too many to try all. I suggest you try these:

puding
hitv (should be already in yr himedia box)
pptv
vst
togic

Hi Avfan,

In Q16 specs, we see that it supports 2.4ghz wifi. But there is a faster wifi 5ghz. Does it mean using q16, we cannot enjoy the fast connection? For MiniX8h, i see 5 ghz is supported. I am asking because I am considering to change my wifi router to an Asus brand that supports dual band wifi and was wondering whether my q16 can fully maximise the wifi speed offered.
Cheers
*
the specs say it supports 2.4ghz only.

and i never tried 5ghz.

so, i can't confirm... maybe somebody else can.

btw, 5ghz is not superior to 2.4ghz as far as "speed" goes. 5ghz is good for highrise or dense areas where there is a lot of wifi traffic congestion on 2.4ghz coming from neighbors. 5ghz allows u a diff freq but is shorter range as the signal losses are higher for higher frequencies.

Hi all, i have Himedia Q16, any of you experience low voice volume and loud everything else in movie? some say because the movie was encoded for 5.1. haha i'm using only built in TV speakers.

Any software can make everything to stereo?

Thank you in advanced.
*
the low voice-loud music thingy is normal for 5.1 or 7.1 files. to avoid that, u just get lower grade files with 2.0 audio.

u can try other audio settings, much the same, i tried before.

QUOTE(lionelchia1986 @ Aug 10 2015, 10:52 AM)
Oh the box comes with the cables. I will try it once i home. biggrin.gif seller told me HDMI can run parallel with RCA cables. yea...worth a try. Will update the result here.
*
the rca l/r audio cables are meant to work with composite video output. if u connect both hdmi and l/r to same tv at same time, the l/r will be nulled.
if u use l/r audio with composite video, the video sucks! biggrin.gif

Hehe no harm trying i would say. I never run 1080 due to bandwidth issue, maybe the video quality won't be so noticeble. Most of the app doesn't let us choose what kind of audio quality. My place can't run popcorn, so i'm left with showbox and skyHD. Most of the time running on showbox only.
*
well, when you have better broadband, >10mbps and a fairly new 5.1 home theater, you will be able to get the max out of the Q16.

Q16 is excellent for 2 things:

- large flash memory allows the largest 1080p files in popcorn to stream nicely
- audio pass thru for dtshdma, ddtruehd and dolby atmos

the AVR only have 1 hdmi. If the android box connect to AVR via hdmi, how to output from AVR to TV?
*
device->avr's hdmi input.
avr's hdmi output->tv
hdmi carries video and audio.
the avr will deliver audio to audio system/speakers.
the avr will deliver video to tv.
but this way, u will not get audio on tv direct.

another way is to connect device->tv hdmi for video and audio.
connect device toslink or digital audio (coaxial rca) output to avr for audio.
this way, u can get dts/dd only, cannot get hd audio which requires hmdi connection.

yrs is a htib (home theater in a box)... a bit inflexible compared to custom built ones.

check what connections are in the htib, try what i said.

Thanks. Later will try out after bought the coaxial rca.
*
to try, no need to buy.
u must hv one of those common rca cables at home somewhere.
i must hv a hundred of them in my bag!

note, audio setup with home theater systems is mainly for playback of high quality media files.
it will not be of much use for online video streams as the audio is usually basic 2.0 or 1.0.

if not mistaken, h8 quad has an allwinner chipset while q5ii and q16 has hisilicon and lastest h8 octa has rockchip.

but if same brand, similar firmwares and codecs, i would think most of the apps will work.

i know and can confirm q5ii is good with showbox, movie hd and most other simple apps.
not so good with popcorn restricted to small files due to small flash memory, not so good with kodi.
can't run tvapp.so
can do dtshdma but has some issues with ddtruehd.

i can also say q16 and h8 octa can do all of the above well.
plus ddtruehd, dd atmos passthru.

h8 quad seems not so popular alto cheaper. best to ask seller(s).

Interesting specs, however still lacking USB 3.0, Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11ac WiFi. Wonder what NAND memory It's using (eMMC 5.0 or 5.1/UFS)? I'm throwing my money at the screen and yet no manufacturer wants to create and support that box that completely rules other boxes..
