Sure XBMC Gotham no problem in Q5ii? mine crashed when i upgrade or clean install from Frodo..i use 0 cache in advancesetting.xml..now keep frodo n it's no more crash
*
bro, forget frodo and advanced settings - obsolete.

delete all old xbmc versions, go straight to xbmc gotham 13.2.
http://xbmc.org/download/

after installation...
VERY IMPORTANT: you must go to settings-video-acceleration, disable mediacodec.

Hi,
To all those interested, there is a fork of XBMC named SPMC (XBMC13.3-SPMC(2)) which works very well on Himedia devices (my device is a Q3II)

It is available on google playstore for download and install or it may be downloaded from Koying website for Semper SPMC (do a google search)

The advantage is that hardware acceleration and software acceleration is enabled and there is nothing to turn off in the video settings.

It will install additionally to your XBMC so you can try it without losing your existing XBMC configuration, this worked for me but please be careful and backup your userdata if you do not want to lose anything.
*
i tried it, got it direct from google playstore.
accepts hardware acceleration-mediacodec. but i don't observe much difference.

users may want to know:

.. xpmc 13.3.2 is rebased to xbmc 13.2
http://spmc.semperpax.com/

.. if you don't have much memory left, you may not be able to copy (task fail) the .xbmc folder of contents to xpmc as both will coexist - they are big files.

.. if need to uninstall xbmc first, use esfile explorer to save a copy of .xbmc (yr current contents of addons, settings, etc.) before uninstalling xbmc to copy to xpmc after first run.

QUOTE
If I install SPMC from the play store will it coexist with XBMC or overwrite it? If it overwrites does it retain my settings (skins, add-ons, paths, advanced settings.xml, etc).

I just got XBMC set up just the way I like it but I have a weird bug with the fast forwarding that I think I heard was fixed with SPMC.

Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

They will coexist.
The file path where all the files xbmc uses changes in spmc from org.xbmc.xbmc to com.semperpax.spmc

If you want to keep all your addons/settings/skin/advancedsettings copy the contents from /sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/files/.xbmc to /sdcard/Android/data/com.semperpax.spmc/files/.xbmc

Make sure to not uninstall xbmc until you install spmc, run it once and copy the proper files over to the new path.

Hope this helps.

hi guys... just a dumb question in regards to my q5ii non-eMMc... can this box read chinese filenames???? is there a setting to it??? it seems that my box cannot read filenames in chinese from my USB or NFC to HDD... please advise... thanks alot
*
it should read, no setting required.

what app do u use to read the hdd? media player, file manager, es file explorer, etc?

i think some files when sent via email or copied using certain apps can change the characters to boxes or gibberish alphanumeric. can a pc read them?

I'm just using the NFC function to access my HDD or while using USB will be using File Explorer but there is no Chinese writing file found, NOT even gibberish... its so weird... normal copy and paste the file to USB or HDD same thing, can't read. Any ideas to make it work????
*
i dunno nfc...

but using es file explorer, it shud read. i just tried it, chinese comes out.

try this - plug the hdd into usb port and read with file manager, the native app. if it still doesn't show, then something is wrong.

again this chinese name file can't read, can yr pc read it?

I tried plugging in the USB thumbdrive open with native file manager, cannot find the chinese written file. Open in PC it is there in the tumbdrive.

Ohhh one more thing will different file formats be a problem??? Cause the file is in .rmvb, trying out the old Stephen Chow's movie files.
*
rmvb format is supported, just like mkv and others.

all 3 - media center, file manager and es file explorer - will read the file incl chinese characters with .rmvb extension and play.

yr file is most likely corrupted. hv you tried to play it on another media player or pc?

if it can be read and played on another media player or pc, i am truly puzzled...

anybody have the same problem as me? appreciate anybody can guide/help me to resolve the problem.... tqtq smile.gif
*
hitv is finished, closed down. china authorities been clamping down on illegitimate sites since a month ago.

mangotv and some other sites all ok.

browser, chrome, etc... if u r on 1.0.7 english firmware, shud be ok, all is still good. but if u updated to 1.0.8, problem - there is no google patch for it yet, so chrome, google, google store won't work.

do check with yr seller...

Guys i need some help, i've looked all over the internet and this is my last stop before i give up. I have a HiMedia 600A non android i think, it's a couple years old. All the streaming stuff no longer works for a couple months (says, "cannot play this file".) I've tried the lastest firmware 1.0.9.5 for this box but still isn't working. Is this box obsolete? I see a lot of people have Android boxes and i've read some where that it's possible to flash firmware to android, is this possible? or is there another solution for this box? any help is appreciated, thank you.
*
i m not user of this model but newer one.

my experience is tech is changing very fast, regulators clamping down, site owners upgrading all the time and dodging bullets.

yr model is probably 3-4 yrs old in the market, realtek chipset i think. not surprising if it can't cope with some the latest apps. android version has now reached 5.0 alto 4.4 kitkat is still very much in use.

i think firmware will not help much. youtube, browser shud be ok but china sites are getting barricaded more and more, probably due to regulatory pressure. one's got to search for hacked app versions, use of workable dns, proxies or vpn to access them. e.g.
http://down.znds.com/
of course, need to be able to read chinese...

i suppose it's time for u to get a new one. but the old one can still be used for usb playback, not wasted...

thanks for the reply,

yeah, i still use it for usb playback, was hoping i could fix it for my parents to watch chinese stuff. it's still a very good box, haven't had a file that it couldn't play yet.
*
if u hv the time and rm4xx, consider the q16 quad.
i just got my hands on it - good.
android kitkat 4.4, 16gb flash, room for plenty of apps.
so far, all my fav apps work well, some very well in hd, incl china ones.
usb playback with hd pass thru, samba easy to set up.

btw thanks for ur reply
*
media center and file manager work on the same native player.
if it gives problem, and another android does not, possible due to some bug in firmware.
i believe himedia quadcore firmware is not as developed as dualcore, so new firmware might help.
anyway, yr question is probably best addressed by seller as users won't know much about the tech details at that level....

Hi everyone !! I must said first I am a newbie with this new generation players.
I just bought an HIMEDIA Q10 II emmc version and just installed the 1.07 firmware.
I ve been trying its display resolution configuration and I found only 1080p 60hz or 50hz can be selected.
My first question is what about 1080p 24fps ? Ive noticed that when watching full bluray movies or mkv movies, my tv always shows 1080p 60p.
So, am I doing somethin wrong.
I remembered my experience with my last himedia 600b and I am sure that 24p resolution could be choose as a resolution.
Thanks in advance for any help on this !!
*
Try this.
When playing back, press menu button.
1080p 24hz option shud b there if yr player has this feature.

Higher models now come with 2160p 24hz.

this question has been asked since a decade ago, beaten to death, a billion posts arguing about it - just google! biggrin.gif

Thanks AVFAN !! As you said I found it on the menu button. But why dont put it as an option on the configuration settings so you can use on other apk players. Next firmware update Please !!

I usually play movies with the HiMEDIA internal player, but most of the times when playing 1080p mkv movies Ive noticed that on several scenes the speed changes for 2 or 3 seconds. Its like slow motion. It also seems that during fast scenes like fighting, frames are being skipped. Its very annoying. Do you know why ?

So I decided to try the MX PLAYER, and I found that the same movie was played perfect without this error. But the problem is I cannot make it reproduce DTS or DOLBY DIGITAL throuth my digital amplifier. Only pro logic. Is there anyway to fix this ?

I also tried the XBMC PLAYER and as far as I can say, its a great player. It does decode DTS and DOLBY DIGITAL but I cannot find the way to configurate the 1080p 24fps like you explained with the internal player. Is there an option or it only plays 1080p 60fps ?

In conclution, its like every player lacks of something.
I wish I could solve the internal player problem I mentioned before. From this 3 players, its the only one that shows that fail I explained when playing movies on 1080p,
I'll appreciate any help you could give me on this !!
*
i m surprised u hv that problem with native player. I do not get that even with bdmv files with my units, not yr model. maybe next firmware will take care of it. but, hv seen it with some other media box. as a suggestion, next time u get that jerkiness, stop it, resume. it worked for that box.

mx player is known to be versatile but can't do hd audio, a licensing issue, I believe.

XBMC... 24p will come. but really, i find 24p no diff from 60hz...

Thanks again for your help.
By the way, wich model of HIMEDIA PLAYER do you have ?

I wonder what could be the cause of this  problem. Its very strange that only happens with this player and not with the others.
Do you know if firmware 1.0.7 is the last one publicated  ?
Is there any chance that this native player may have a program failure ? How could I reinstall it ? I googled it but I cannot find the apk.
*
i hv the more popular q5ii and q16.

firmware should be 107 or 108 latest, depending on emmc or not, eng or chinese.
firmwares r all different for diff models, diff submodels.
some firmwares r not available publicly easily and secure, so best u ask yr seller who should have all of them.

if only plan for mkv playback from HDD
is this box a great choice?
or shall i just get conventional media player like WDTV?
*
how much does a wdtv cost now?
imo, for a player just for playback, i will not pay >rm200.
i had one unknown china brand rm180, plays good, no problem.
it has been given away as i have moved on to androids.
think all androids can handle playback easy alto they r primarily for online streaming and popular apps..
himedia androids are pretty good in terms of hardware quality and playback codecs in the native player.
if spending rm400 or so, might as well go buy an android.
and dun forget many bluray players now come with good usb playback capabilities too.

no doubt android box is something interesting i just happen to know its existence recently (less than 2 weeks)
the reason for looking a new box is because my old 5-years old hdx box 'finally' stop functioning
however now my led tv does play well for most my mkv, except that subtitles too ugly and some mkv dts sound issue
*
tv or bd player playback mkv have this general problem of ugly subs, no option to change.

the dts issue arises becos many tv makers do not pay for dts license.

i also have a 4 yr old ac ryan. not used much now, more for storage of files in the built in hdd.

if u have decent broadband, u will hv fun beginning to explore the world of androids like i did a year ago. and never looked back! biggrin.gif

once u get to stream direct in kodi (formerly xbmc) and popcorn time, u may not even want to get and playback non-blockbusters anymore - just watch n forget.

these boxes are not rm5k or even 1k in price, rm400-500 will get u a solid one, most can handle 3d, iso, bdmv, dtshdma playback.

did any1 got same issue here? any advice to solve this..?

this problem is common - i believe you need a special version preinstalled. the one from playstore will not work properly, something to do with google banned in china.

u should contact yr seller to get it fixed.

frankly, i do not really know why the no video u-tube problem.
could be due to china-outside china firmware versions or some missing patch file.
moreover each model can only use a specific firmware.
so, i see no other way for you but to get hold of seller.
or pay some other seller to help, maybe...?
