yea, cos if they open the package and let u test and u dun buy, it can onli be sold as a demo unit with lower price. dats why most shop dun let u test, especially when some cheap fellas trying to be funny, testing every amp b4 buying is unpractical. if they installed the amp d, and u dun like, are u willing to pay for the workmanship? but as far as i know, like craziechild knows a shop in sarawak dat is willing to let him test for free. lucky him.

especially cables even harder to test. maybe in my place the service is like dat, if wanna try a few hi end ones, potong like 5 types of his cables, sure he oso not syok. unless u r regular customer then different story. got even once i've tried to test a famous shop, i went in dressed very cincai, typical malaysian T shirt, shorts and slippers i asked for quotation, salesgirl din know sh1t, asked the cashier(i supposed it's the manager), wanted to consult a specialist about setting up my system, then she give all sorts of excuses, the sifu busy, cannot test this cannot test dat, cannot discount, must 'see' ur car first onli can make quotation, imagine a simple woofer box with various odd colors fake leather cost rm350-500, Helix A4 was close to rm8k. was wondering how these ppl do business, then later i get to know all their customers are driving big cars, those dat dun look at price tags, neva saw a single proton in the workshop...

the usual question, u wan it to sound nice(SQ) or loud(SPL) or multimedia system which can watch DVD? and the 5k is for the whole system including HU(Head Unit)?

MyWifeCar, there are HU dat can watch DVD and gud for SQ at the same time. but it is very expensive at the same time. one of it is Pioneer 9800, can't remember the full model number. it is almost rm6k or so. some alpine double din is also quite gud as well.

mazda and nissan higher end ones has bose audio system, not onli continental cars. but if me, be it marantz, mark levinson or bose in the car i'll still upgrade it, haha.

below 2k branded ones i think onli can get in 2nd hand market. if u are hardworking, can go to the singapore forum and make a deal with sellers there. it's quite cheap and quite common there if compared to m'sia. mostly new ones in m'sia cost rm2k, under 2k onli cap ayam ones.

abt 3-4k maybe.

i prefer to get 2nd hand branded and quality stuffs. HU cost abt rm700-1k, amp 800-1k, component speakers 1k, sub and amp 1k. this will get u a decent sound for a long run. if u wan everything new, have to search for lower spec stuffs. u can pm me, can intro u some stuffs on other forum.

boston acoustics S60 and alpine type S, they shud be around ur budget, maybe a little higher.

power is not the onli indicator if its a gud sub. a lot of factor as well. ppl look at rms and not peak/max watt. built quality is oso equally important. a 500W mohawk sub u think better than a 500W JL sub? of cos the price oso different. choose according to ur max budget and amp will do.

Get p80, easier to service and sell if u wan to in the future.

not all hu has dat feature. might have to change hu if really need the aux.

2din 800-1200 can onli get u china brands. very seldom can find branded ones around 1000.

rm600 including the monitor or just the single din DVD player without the screen? even for a simple mp3 CD player can cost u rm400 or so easily. even those china brands DVD player with screen oso cost around rm1k.

in KK, installation might cost bout rm30 or so if juz the player alone, mostly they dun charge u if u buy the player from them. as for repair, depends wat is needed to be repaired. u can juz use back ur original wires if u are not adding an amp, no need to rewire. rm600 for a dvd player is not impossible but for a branded spanking new one, depends on ur luck la, especially in KK where the price of car audio is quite high comparatively.

think panasonic, kenwood and JVC shud have wat u looking for.

wats ur budget in the first place. if 1k for those 2 things i think it's a little expensive. i think soundproofing is not needed at this stage of ICE unless u wan to reduce cabin noise.

imho, it's quite expensive. better buy from the forum and take to shop and install. or better still get some 2nd hand stuffs for better price/performance value. just beware of fakes while shopping.
