wahahahhahaa....thats how i felt oso dude....but that time pokai and needed one...so i bought it and ended up i decided to use it til i sold off the car thumbup.gif

but seriously, just go for an electronic x-over. sound quality is better than a preamp...only thing is u cant fiddle with the settings while ur driving.

Actually, the reason l want a preamp is because l want to connect 2 amp to my original HU (which doesnt have any RCA). lol

Current l use a high-low to connect 1 amp. now l got another amp to add but dont know how to connect it except getting a pre-amp. smile.gif

since u already have a hi-lo converter than u can just connect it to a pre-amp or electronic x-over

whichever one u decide to buy....connection is still the same...

HU -> hi-lo converter -> pre-amp/elec x-over -> amp x 2 -> speakers

some amps can use the hi connection (aka speaker cables) to directly connect to it. if thats what ur doing now then i suggest u get a hi-lo converter to make use of the preamp /x-over

Hey guys, I'm thinking of upgrading my car (Waja) audio but I know nuts about them and don't know where to start. I'm thinking about starting out with something simple with a max budget of RM1000.

There's a forum member selling Soundstream speakers for RM350 which he claims will set you back RM800 at the shops. What do you guys think of them? Is there anything better within my budget? Can I use them with the stock Waja CD player?

ask yourself what you want to achieve ... brows.gif
if you want to hear really nice music, you have to change your stock waja HU ...

if you want hear better, the soundstream will be good (i think so but i never heard b4) then you goto get yourself a 12" sub + amp 2 channel to whack it

BTW, i believe stock waja sound system is quite good also ... juz my opinion

this is my speaker pic 6.5" on my waja with DIY mounting

I m noob, anybody can explain
what is tweeter for, how does it look like?
what is crossover for?
wat is pre-amp and amp for?
what is difference btween 2-way, 3-way, 4-way speaker, component speaker?
what is coaxial speaker?
what is subwoofer for?
is HU important for sound quality?

I would like to have ICE which gives clear vocals, and fairly sufficient powerful bass for techno, (but not ah beng one, only can hear drumbeat), how to setup within RM800?

Sorry to dissappoint you folks. But when it comes to vocals and SQ... It is very hard to achieve with a tight budget. Unless it is done step by step. Before you startedd off, it is a good idea to audition cars fitted with ICE to know what you want. Just some advices...

Any recommendations for a decent HU? Just wanna get a decent one, maybe something like a mid range Pioneer that I had (which served me well for the past 1.5 years... cry.gif )

Just want something that could play MP3s without fuss, nice clarity, and good for future upgrades...budget wise...enlighten me with something 500<800 plz...

p/s : Wats the price of a player with USB connection? Saw 1 from Kenwood and JVC that looks pretty nice... smile.gif

Cloud,

Based on your car, I would say the first thing to go would be the stock muffler. Been in one Saga SE, and it is terribly noisy. So I really would recommend that to go first. It would interfere tremendously and at the end of the day, you dont enjoy your ICE, rather you will easily get fatigued by all the noises.

Your pioneer, what kinda speakers? Co-ax or component speakers. If can maybe shed some light on the speakers itself.

Thanks.

You can use the speakers in the car, but you cant mount it onto the Waja power window console. So like what Princehamsap said, mount it on the outside. I would recommend you to do some search on the Soundstream speaker first before doing anything.

You see, when you got yourself a pair of speakers that require a lot of power to drive, you will need a powerful amp. And most powerful amps are not cheap. Even 2nd hand. Some even surpass your budget of 1000. Get some easy to run, decent component set within your budget. That way lots of things are achiavable.

Waja HU have 2 pair of pre out, 1 for sub and 1 for front components, also the HU is not very powerful. Peak recorded was 0.7V +/-. So my recommendation still is get something easy to run.

Tweeter is for you to play the high fq... Mainly playing vocals. Crossover is a device where it controls the frequency input into the components. Pre-amp is for you to manipulate your signals coming out from the HU. Usually not needed as most HU these days are very advanced. Amp is for you to amplify the signal..

For 2, 3, 4 ways, I think you can chek one of the thread here.

Subwoofer is for you to supply the low frequency. Depending on brand and materials used, some sub can go very low...

HU is important.

Correct me if Iam wrong. notworthy.gif

yeah im thinking bout changing those proton so called "racing muffler" it doesnt increase any bhp and the sound is not pleasant compared to aftermarket's ones, but it DOES increase the petrol consumption 2x my mom's waja sweat.gif

erk, what's the diff between component n co-ax?shed some light to me 1st b4 the speakers laugh.gif
