anyone know what the diff between MIUI from the MIUI official website and MIUI from xda?
*
I think
- MIUI from official website is made from official cyanogenmod
- the MIUI from xda is made from MIUI port for our sgs. This happens because there's no finished CM for sgs yet;

Try using any screenshot app first.

If cannot, while connected with adb, can use android sdk to capture screenshot. I did this once as it doesn't need the phone to be rooted. Haven't tried it while playing games but theoritically, it should work.

*
They'll update to DXJPE which is android 2.2

Later firmwares based on 2.2.1 are much better. One of it is sweethoney rom which I advise to flash into. Refer to first page

Simply Honey Gingerbread rom is under "investigation" as it uses DamianGTO's kernel. LOL...
*
His 2.2.1 rom is still there. refer first page.

damiangto didn't comply with gpl licence. Thus, any rom that includes dgto kernel will be taken under investigation. IMO, simone should just dump that kernel.

gmhafiz, do u have any idea about the GPL license? i read some devs like last time nickademus and hardcore arguing about that. what's the big deal after all?
*
gpl license is what made linux became successful. Basically, any software that is gpl-licensed, must provide its source code upon request. Those custom kernels are made from the official linux, thus must provide the source code.

Among other gpl-licensed softwares are like firefox, php, mysql, openoffice, gimp, etc. Linux trounces other os in the server market, stock market, supercomputers, and now smartphones. Without gpl license, we would not see such cool innovation like android smile.gif

Location spoofer app can be moved to /system/app folder and doesn't require "allow mock location" setting to be switched on.

No need to flash back to stock kernel. No cons in flashing to speedmod kernel smile.gif

there any android softwre  not need internet cnnction for maps especlly during driving??? icon_question.gif

just like garmin on my frend's nokia phone not need internet cnnection for gps map...
*
no need internet for gps lock. it'll take about 5 minutes before location lock. if there's internet connection, locking will be faster.

for maps, can use papago, aura sygic, ndrive, etc. if you are using google maps, need constant internet connection.

Btw, I just discovered something new today (slow poke lah)....in Go Launcher Ex, inside the App Drawer, you can create Folders (which u can rename) and put the apps inside....eg Games Folder, Tools Folder etc....this will make the App Drawer very clean and neat and access the apps quickly too according to the Folder Category created (instead of searching through the alphabetical order)....

Of course, we can also create this Folder method at the Main Homescreen (but I don't like to put too many things at Homescreen)....

Just sharing for those who might want to look for a launcher to store ALL their apps in App Drawer neatly and orderly...

*
yes, go launcher ex is very nice. thumbup.gif

mind i ask
how much is the ram of this sgs
i see the review of first page no show ram of it
*
512MB of ram. part of it is reserved for the system, thus only about 310MB plus is available to user. If you feel the ram is always on the low side, I recommend using autokiller

did u guys get FC after restoring apps + data on Gingerbread? afraid of losing my Angry Birds hardwork. lol..
*
some apps will have fc after restoring on gingerbread. solution is to uninstall, and reinstall that app. (using titanium backup)

Just want to ask Galaxy S owners opinion.

- Do you guys planning to buy Galaxy S II when it finally comes out?
- Is it really needed to have a dual-core processor? What are you gonna do which such speed? play game? go buy psp ngp la..
*
- No. sgs holds up well against a plethora of dual-core phones. My sgs is a mere 10 months old. Moreover, it is a present from my sister smile.gif

- I'll wait for at least kal-el quad core. Maybe it can run football manager biggrin.gif

which one better, MIUI v7 or CM7? other than UI difference

latest cm7 Gingerbread 2.3.4 has solved the batt problem.. the batt draining is same like JVK i experienced before

Nice to know. Will try cm7 in the weekend.

hey bro, can you pls explain to me how to install CM7?
do I have to revert back to froyo? (lets say I am using the stock rom with boatloader from [Ramad])
and what does this statement mean?
"The only rule of CyanogenMod: DON'T ASK FOR ETAs. "
*
Noo need to go back to froyo. Just follow the instruction in the thread's first page. flash kernel > initial rom > update

ETA means estimated time of arrival. They'll finish up the rom when it is finished. Don't pester them. They aren't working for salary.

After flashing CM7 I get strange colours on my screen during boot
You do not have the correct bootloaders. Basically flash 2.2.1 following this article and then redo the CM7 installation. All should be fine.

hmmm, do I need to flash froyo's bootloader?
thank you in advance
*
- what rom are you on?
- any chance you were on xxjvk or xxjvb with the new samsung bootloader?

I have no idea how the new xxjvb bootloader will have any effect on the screen colour. You can always revert to froyo bootloader. Just flash zsjpj or ezbase rom to get it back.

OK, I thought of a way, but have never tested it before since I have data plan on my phone and also wifi in my office.

1. Connect laptop to internet via LAN (wired network)
2. Set up Internet Connection Sharing on your laptop to share Internet out via the laptop's WIFI
3. Connect phone to laptop's WIFI (adhoc connection, methinks)
4. Surf away..
*
There's an in-built software in windows 7 that can turn your laptop into a mobile hotspot. Then connect your phone to your laptop via wifi to get internet.

One thing I realise about the android phones is that the android market is no match for the applestore.  There is much more apps and better games for the iphone.
*
Besides games, applestore and android market are similar. The number of apps in android market will surpass applestore in 5 months. So both will have more and more useful apps as well as crappy apps.

Need to ask SGS sifu here a few things.

I am using whatsapp and now have my 3G data always on.  I notice that 3G eats battery pretty fast.  Is is better to use Wifi instead of 3G while in the office or just stick to 3G?  Which consumes more power...3G or Wifi?

What about switching to GSM only...will this affect whatsapp and mail performance and drain less battery?

The other thing is that I cannot find my data usage info anywhere.  Can someone show me how I can see my data usage and reset it?

When using darky's V9.5 froyo 2.2.1, do i need to disable samsung software update so that it will not check for updates all the time?  And where can i disable it?

Cheers
*
3g is a battery hog. If you put gsm mode only instead of hsm/wcdma, you'll get improved battery life. But you'll only get edge speed. No idea about widget to easily switch that.

In my experience, wifi uses much less battery than 3g.

About the software update, refer first page. You need to delete the 3 apps in /system/app folder

My SGS full charge at 6am this morning.  Now its 48% left.  Only 2 short phone calls and very little surfing.  Did some tweaking of the home screen and kill all the apps except Launcher Pro.  3G data on since 8am for whatsapp.

From the above i would say its very light usage but its taken 50% of my battery already.  The SGS is sure a very power hungry phone or is there something i do wrong that results in battery drain.

Iphone 4's battery only 500 mAH while SGS is 1500 mAh.  How come iphone 4 battery last just as long as SGS?
*
Iphone4 battery is 1430mAh. It has smaller screen but has full os hardware acceleration that contributes to good battrry life. Sgs has bigger screen with partial hardware acceleration.
Unfortunately iphone4 uses insane resolution that brings its battery life to sgs lvl.

As I use froyo custom rom and kernel, the battery life is much better than the stock firmware.

I've put some tips on how to deal with battery in the first page. I use Batteryfu app as well.

As I mentioned, 3g is a battery hog. I'd like to know of a widget that can switch gsm and wcdma too.

Also, please do not use task killer. Killed apps can reopened, thus poor battery life. Android has in-built memory management. Use apps like autokiller or minfreemanager.

its just something to share to with u guys and might help u filling ur weekend activitiy biggrin.gif

If you are a fan of miui, remember that is made from cyanogenmod biggrin.gif

Give them some more time to make cm7 compatible with our sgs.

Btw, I am planning on flashing to cm7 this weekend. I just need to find my usb cable

IIRC,
Ezbase 2.0 is froyo
Ezbase 3.0 is gingerbread.

Not sure if froyo bootloader is ccompulsory for cm7
