You are from Sabah ... then I am making a wild guess that your ASX is white in colour.
My wife is from Luyang, Sabah icon_rolleyes.gif and I was at Sabah last weekend and found most of the ASX on the road are white in colour.

I have a few question in mind

a) Can this 4wd version change from 4WD mode to 2WD mode for fuel saving?

b) Is the brake smell real bad? Is it smellable from the outside and inside the car?

tested ASX 4WD drive today

Very good performance, 0-100km sprint is pretty fast almost as fast 10 seconds

You can switch from 2WD to 4WD or 4WD lock ( on wet and slippery roads )

Also did the 4WD lock today on rainy roads , it made everything quite tight and secure

Rear boot is SUPER HUGE , made the rear seat flat can at least put more than 1000 liters , very impressive. I also like the idea that they place a compartment to place your shoes or anything in the provided gap boxes rclxms.gif

But the interior plastics on the rear boot is not really that good, below average.

Because whoever buy this kind of car obviously will place objects / boxes etc on the boot as a cargo car.

Easily scratch on just slight move , if you do not mind that the car is awesome.

I have some annoying rattling sound coming from the gear stick area there. I can't pinpoint where exactly it's coming from. It's not very serious and occasional only. However, it's annoying lar. Any other owners got this problem? I shifted the keys, sunglasses etc d so it's not some loose object.

there is a switch

2WD mode
4WD mode
4WD lock mode.

at 2wd .. only the front 2 wheels move .. open differential
at 4wd .. all 4 wheels move .. open differential still
at 4wd lock .. it locks at 50% (if i remember correctly)

yup .. running at 2wd mode easily save 20% more fuel, but bear in mind the 4wd mechanical are on the car itself which weights additional 100kg . So no matter how you drive with the 2wd mode u wont get it as fuel save as the 2wd version

99% of the time u won't be needing this

unless u go for serious offroad then u need 4wd

andif u are really stuck in waist deep mud then u need diff lock

with ASC, your car is still maneuvrable in wet road condition

u only need to use the 4wd lock at very harsh environment such as going into muddy place etc..

open differential setup -> when u jack up one side and floor the accelerator .. only the side that jack up are spinning..

summary that .. the differential will look for the wheel with less resistance to transfer the power. this design is necessary as when u are connering, the outer wheel suppose to move more than the inner wheel so that you can turn. if there is no differencial, both wheel will be turning at the same speed. which very much understeer and u cant turn.

but in cases of muddy area, the mud are slipery , if you are not in the 4wd lock mod, the differencial will find the easy way out on the less resistance wheel and basically u cant move.. by locking it both wheel will turn (but at 50% rate lock only not full lock) ..

For those whom know what is LSD, basically it works something like and LSD .

yup .. taiko lucifah basically sum it up in layman terms..
i dun think there will be anyone buying an ASX for offroads..

the ASC is good enough to handle the wets

Only use the 4WD lock mode on slippery surface or you can call it like TRACTION CONTROL on the road

2WD normal driving

4WD carrying huge cargo and need to go upslope etc
