Yes, i fully agree...chose this over ideos x5 because i am not so into video or photo capturing. So far it has been serving me very well except for the battery. Maybe it is new, just bought on 23 May, need several rounds of charges before it is really powered up
*
But X5 is better in every other aspect (price, hardware, performance, resolution, etc), so just wondering, why did you get Ace? Just curious hmm.gif

Anybody sent Ace to change motherboard at Times Square Samsung Center? Did it solve SOD and how long did it take?

QUOTE(KW @ C.,Jun 8 2011, 11:03 AM)
Sorry if I've asked the same question...

We can now upgrade to GB via Kies??
*
Why don't you try?

After observing my wife using the Galaxy Ace I passed to her for a few weeks, I can say that the battery life is really terrible. Fully charged in the morning, then by nighttime is almost flat. I suggested she use back her old HTC Legend, and with the same usage, >50% left by nighttime. Legend even has extra FaceStream and Weather widget. But strangely, SOD did not happen to her, but happened to me when I used the same Ace last time. Now that Ace is unused, I submitted it at Berjaya Samsung SC for the SOD problem. We'll see what the result is smile.gif

many ppl talk about SOD here, but what that actually?? can explain to me??
*
Screen of Death. If you have wifi on, and you leave your phone, then come back to it, you cannot turn it on. The screen doesn't light up. You can still call your number, and you will have ringing tone, but the phone itself will not show anything. You have to take out battery or press power button for long time (~5 seconds) to restart the phone.

anyone can recommend me english dictionary which can use it without on9??
*
Search for ColorDict. The data needs to be installed separately, so search for ColorDict Data too. English->Chinese, Thesaurus, etc.

can anyone tell me wat application to download in order to alter the position of icon in the menu??
*
Maybe can try another launcher. GO Launcher lets you reorder your icons, make folders, change transition effect, etc.

I have a question, under wireless network setting there is one function called Portable Hotspot (mobile AP).
What is this all about? I don't understand how it works?

Thanks
*
Portable Hotspot means you can use your Ace as a wifi modem, other devices (phones, PC, laptop, etc) can connect to it and use Internet using your data line. Available officially from Android 2.2 onwards, since mid last year. iOS 4.3 also have this function, available Feb this year.

Basic settings like SSID, encryption method, encryption key, etc. Do try it and see.

Settings > Wireless and network settings > Wi-Fi settings > Menu > Advanced > Wi-Fi sleep policy

guys, how do you install application from android market?

i kept getting " There are no Android phones associated with this account. Please sign in with a different account."

*
If you get that error from Market using your PC, try going into Market app from your phone first.

*
No.

QUOTE(Cyphereza @ Jun 19 2011, 09:01 PM)
I think the thing that makes it a battery eater is the always on data connection. You can try timeout3g to disconnect the connection after a period of time. Not too sure if it works. Seems like it doesn't disconnect. sweat.gif
I'm trying out this. http://hemorrdroids.net/battery-calibration/
Currently at step 5. Not sure if it'll improve anything.
*
Another app to periodically disconnect wifi and data is Green Power Premium.

If you're worried about lelong.com.my, why not try one of our reputable LYN sellers? RM840, free car charger, screen protector, pouch, car holder. If post to you add RM10. RM999 is the original retail price.

Guys and girls, mind sharing how long does your Ace lasts? A day? Two days? 10 hours?

Mine only lasts around 10 to 12 hours sweat.gif

3G on all the time since I need push email... currently on Edge and data connection disconnects every time I lock the screen and with interval of 5 mins for email updates. Will report how long it'll lasts this time
*
1 day. Charge it at the same time everyday. If play some games or surf more or use GPS, might not reach 1 day. Auto-update widgets like Facebook, GO Weather, etc, eat more battery.

AFAIK, there is no official way to upgrade to Gingerbread, because it is not out yet.

Bought a new SGA. However after purchasing forgot to perform the e-warranty registration.

Messaged to 62002 to verify, and a reply stating that  "The IMEI ........... need to be registered. Please request your phone retailer to activate e-warranty". Additionally noticed the IMEI at the box and phone are different. Any advise  doh.gif  .

Additionally, how do i verify whether is it an AP or SME set phone?
*
Which shop is that? Why box and phone IMEI are different? Call up the shop and ask them to register your phone IMEI.

Samsung center will follow date of purchase on your receipt for warranty.

*
Errr, he already did this. Read his post properly.

How to copy contact from my old Sony erricson to SGS, can copy using bluetooth or whatsoever?...Please advise.;;TQ
*
Your SE can export to CSV file or not? If can, just copy to ur SD card then import, or import into Google Contacts then sync.

If cannot, you can consider typing the contacts into Google Contact then sync, also can export into CSV file if you don't use Android next time.

Or, copy into SIM card, then put SIM card into SGS, then import from SIM card. But very limited space, and cannot store multiple info per contact.

Yes, agreed. GO Launcher is fast, easy, themeable. GO products are usually very polished. I use GO Launcher and GO SMS in all my Androids.

Well bro, I think almost all smartphones have battery problems All of them are powerful but all of them have the same problem which is that the battery drains very fast. :S
*
All have battery problems, but some are worse than others. Ace seems one of the worst.

QUOTE(smokymcpot @ Jun 28 2011, 05:52 AM)
But I thought it is not really advisable to use second party batteries cause it may drain your battery life or something like that. Thought of getting a portable charger but it is RM100+. Not worth it :S
*
2 x1500mAh batteries + charger = RM30

2 x1600mAh batteries + charger = RM35

I tried what you guys suggested by turning off my 3G when not in use and turning it on only when I wanna use. It actually does work. It saves much more battery  Btw, now by battery 50 odd % , should I charge it? Cause I will be heading out shortly so is it advisable to do so? Is there any rule on how long or often I must charge my phone?
*
Charge as often and as long as you want.

QUOTE(jabz @ Jun 28 2011, 02:41 PM)
can we transfer the call logs to excel file? if yes, how to do it?

My Ace not with me, can't check for sure, but there are apps to do it. Here's a simple one:
