Hi SGA owners out there, found this thread at Android forums regarding the Screen Of Death (SOD) phenomenon. The find out out its something got to do with our WIFI    dunno to believe it or not...

So, turning of your WIFI completely maybe will not make your phone suddenly turning off?? Have u guys try it before?? i haven't get my SGA yet, so thats why i do a lot of research first.

and ive also been experiencing that problem,
but not too frequent la,
ive heard that if u update to the latest firmware,
some of the problems gone,
but some ive heard even worse,
dont know whether wan to update or not..

does it use data charges, if we on the GPS and use papago navigation?

My SGA phone all of sudden blackout, which is OFF by itself. Anyone here experience this problem?

ive been lurking around since the first thread created, and i myself had bought SGA around 2 weeks ago..
Fortunately, i havent experienced the SOD or hangup while on call and so on..
just trying to help, i did asked in the previous thread for all the user who experienced all the problems to state their firmware version AKA the baseband version(correct me if im worng)..
this is just to make sure that the FW itself is not the culprit. this is due to that i saw someone here mentioned that he had the problems since the FW update.

then let me start, mine is S5830DXKB1.. with this FW, never experienced SOD or freezed screen.. please share yours..thanks!

1 question about battery charging..i don't know when its full..izit when the batt sign is not 'charging' means its full?

and why cant i send or receive mms?

dont really know,but its just a tiny scratch,dont know when it happen,just when i clean it i saw some tiny line,try to clean but still there,then fell with my thumb n feel the scratch,deep la i think

I think baseband + apps that using.
one of them using KB1 SOD facing SOD after updated JuiceDefender? is that possible that it inter-related?

Dannyl hmm correct the list.  I didt get SOD problem before.

I did some google just now some said it is sd card problem /kernal problem / Bad coded apps / cpu unstable

Can I ask how do you remove a shortcut/application from the home screen on galaxy ace android 2.2, I know you can add shortcut but how do you remove ?

sorry sounds a bit stupid but I want customize it so that I can post my family photo on the phone and move the shortcut to the lower part of the phone

hehe.. but how about the standard icon on the dockbar? CALL | PHONEBOOK | SMS and Apps Drawer.. can it be replaced?

i tried the method by pressing menu..edit.. etc etc.. nothing can remove or replace the icon..

Guys I remember I read some article before.  Google apps also give some problem in some phone.  So anyone out there who had sod did you use gmail  or gtalk  or any apps things that sync? I don't use gps any gmail or social hub or fb sync or email and no use 3g no use packet data and turn off sync only wifi I use and have no sod.

I try do some experiment today.

here is my application list to help out hose whose has SOD that trying delete 1 by 1 application to find the reason causing SOD

the one i bought from gave 2 yrs as he claims he is a samsung specialist vendor / reseller. TBH I didnt really check whether 1 or 2yrs with samsung.

I tried the instruction in the box, by sending PC imei no. to 62002, but I got reply saying "The service is not available, Please try again later.", but im been trying for 1 month already since i bought it.

After that, I called Samsung customer service to check the warranty status, they told me to just keep the receipt for warranty claim, warranty registration is not important. 

is it free if i use Papago in my sga?

i excluded default application that come with SGA itself as majority ppl doesn't suffer SOD

i try to run the ram to maximum, open wifi more than 18hours continues, multi-taksing and yet it still didn't SOD.

Add me to the SOD victims list.  Let me explain my situation see whether this gives any clues to the investigation pool

Bought last week from SenQ.

1) Night time using wifi on Xyzel wireless router running 802.11b/g/n WPA2-PSK
SOD one time on the 3rd day

2) Day time using wifi on Dlink wireless router running 802.11b/g WEP
No SOD

3) After 1 week, hands itchy, changed the day time Dlink router to use WPA-PSK
SOD on the very first day after changed.

Phone still clean during the SOD on the 3rd day, only has facebook and ATK installed. Not rooted and using the ori 2GB SD card comes with the phone.  Already did the WLAN test mentioned in page 1.

Firmware:  S5830DXKC1

Could it be the encryption method or the wireless signal stability that caused the SOD?
