SMS alerts for credit card transaction is now available. I've tried it and it is instantaneous! this is a really nice peace of mind feature to have and it should have been implemented years ago.

When it started? I used my HSBC on 26th but no sms fom them.

Started on 28th Dec according to their memo (can be found on their front page). Used my CC today to pay bills online and the sms alert came right through.

For online transactions only, or all? Other banks need to follow suit fast.

Online bill payment works with SMS alert. Retail merchants - it should but i cannot verify this.

No need to register as long as your mobile number is up-to-date on their record. If not, give CS a call.

HSBC 5 Swipes Promo
- some confusion over the (minimum) 5 swipes must be made during a participation week OR during the promo period (total of 6 weeks).
- referring to the T&C example 1, it appears to be 5 swipes during the 6 weeks. Depending on cash availability, cardholders will fulfill the criteria in the week during which the 5th swipe occurs.

Anyone can clarify this?

Talking about hsbc "insincere", just now some hsbc guy name "sathia" from hsbc kl called me and offered
20k 0% personal loan.. Saying 0% to
Convince me. And i ask him to calculate how
Much installment 10k for 5 years, he said its RM273.
Try to calculate on the spot and
Got the RM16380 total amount payable for 5 years.
A total nonsense. When i told Him about the total, now hes saying got 1% intrest. When i ask is
It 1% per year.. He said yes. Then he said 1% per month. Later i said let me think ( which is a BIG no)
Conclusion is never trust them directly. A lot hidden chargers. Just sharing!

Don't be surprised if many of these 'bankers' never passed their basic maths.
I had a FD case in which we argued over how many days of interest there were in the term. These 'banker's will use every means to confuse you even though they know they were wrong.
Another example is the CC forex rate on overseas transaction. HSBC is supposed to use visa rate +1%. We all know the actual rate they use is at least another 1% on on top. Even if you call to dispute this, they will say they can't do a thing.

Dear Gen-X,

Yesterday I notice my CC account have been charge for the annual fees. Search high & low for the 12x swipes in HSBC website, but unable to find anything about the auto waived. not a single words about 12x swipes in HSBC website. I remember last time I saw it stated 12x swipes.

As mentioned, HSBC CS told me to pay first for the annual fees.
My statement Date is 27/Aug and the annual fees charge on the same day. So I have to pay the annual fees by 16/Sep. I will wait till last few days before the due date. Hopefully HSBC will credit back RM 600 to my CC account before my statement due.

Hope all existing HSBC credit card holder will take note on the annual fees. Check your Statement / Online@HSBC.
If HSBC really sincere to give Free For Life annual fees, then it should be mention in HSBC website / product disclosure sheet on the auto waived with min 12x swipes.

Thanks for bringing this to the attention of HSBC cardholders.

I also did a search on HSBC site for annual fee waiver on VS cards but all past references to auto waiver based on mininum 12 annual swipes are gone!

So far this year i've only been billed the government tax of rm50 (twice - due to their error!). If there is no annual card fee waiver i'm also ditching this card! mad.gif

Has any HSBC card members received the cashback from "10% Cashback Promotion" that ran from Dec 12 to Feb 13? It should be anytime now as the T&Cs state that the cashback will be credited between 4 to 8 weeks after the promo ends in Feb.

Beware of participating in any cashback promotions. Know their T&Cs inside out. You may or may not get the cashback even though you think your transactions should qualify for them. The problem is there is no independent external audit of these promotions.

That is why I love my Maybankard 2 AMEX and OCBC TMC - cash back guaranteed, subject to monthly quota of course.

But if you use the HSBC on the "first" day of the week running, the chance of getting the cash back is high.

Yes correct - you are more likely to get the cashback if you make the qualifying card transactions on day 1 of the promo participating week. What i was saying is even if you do so, you may not get the cashback simply because there was a 'error' made by the card issuer. That's why there should be some sort of third party audit for check and balance.

My experience is that the bank is not sincere with these cashback promotions - simply because they "can" and due to lack of external party checks and balance. On a number of occasions, I meet their T&Cs on day 1 of a participating week and i still don't get the cashback until i complained all the way to the top and eventually they relented - but not before they provided all kinds of excuses to disqualify my valid card transactions that met the criteria. Essentially, the bank thinks most cardholders are either too lazy or stupid to argue for any cashbacks due to them.

Follow up to my earlier post.

Well, I got my latest statement and they charged me both the annual fee and GST  mad.gif

Call them up and explained to the person on the line that I called up last month and I was informed that my annual fee will be waived. She then gave me some excuse that they experiencing high call volume and someone will call me back between 3-6pm to attend to my complain. So, I said what rubbish, I want the annual fee waived immediately. I was then transferred to another person and she confirmed I did call last month on the annual fee waiver and requested that the GST be offset from my points. She said that my annual fee will be waived. So I said I will deduct RM650 from my Statement Balance and she advise me to pay the RM600 annual fee and later they credit back. Once again I said NO. I want it waived immediately and she said OK.

Anyway, the person on the line did say that next year annual fee will be waived with 12 swipes.... I am seriously considering cancelling my HSBC Premier Credit Card before my card anniversary next year if they continue to have this stupid policy of charging us the annual fee first and making us call them for the waiver. Why can't they just keep to their word that the annual fee will auto waived with 12 swipes  vmad.gif  vmad.gif  vmad.gif  vmad.gif  vmad.gif  vmad.gif

The only good thing about the HSBC Premier Visa Signature is that I get Toll FREE line, so there is no cost on my part to call them.

I have a similar issue as you Gen-X. My visa signature was charged RM600 for annual card fee - which was credited back on the spot when i made this request via phone. But according to this rep, the RM600 still needs to be settled in the next statement. I kind of doubt his 'story' because if RM600 was credited immediately, why would i still need to settle this amount in the next statement? Kind of defeats the purpose of an immediate credit.

This is the first time they have shown this annual card fee charge on the statement. In the past, the fee is automatically waived after 12 swipes.

After speaking to the rep, the system works like this. All statement balance must be paid in full even if you have any credit balance. Penalty applies automatically if statement balance is not paid in full. But, in the case of annual card fee, if you pay your statement balance minus the card fee, you can ask for penalty reversal.

Ok thanks for this. HSBC did not show this in their "What's new" tab on their front page. The new program T&Cs can be found on their credit cards visa signature page.

Anyone received any sms confirmation from sms registration of 5x and 8x rewards program for Premier and Signature card? Last couple of times there was no confirmation of any sort after sending card details to 66600. Their customer service isn't of any help - as usual.
