nah, i was the one writing that offending reply and he has the right to be pissed though
i've heard some nice things about krk, but my friend said it's kinda overpriced. and also not that "studio" like

none taken.....

the fact is i don't have any info about that range.....so i'm not able to comment....maybe i was too direct.....as you can see my other replies to other forumers....direct and straight to the point

its not about being high-end or low-end......you see us high end.....but i see others having higher end stuffs than Gi Jie and myself (although Gi Jie is way up up than me....cepat hide first).....

if you asked me about altec lansing those days....they really pack some mean sound system at that range
but obviously it was a premium for me back in the 90s

audiophile is a long journey. its not just about sound.....its about reproducing music

i started with a pair of computer speakers priced at rm30 from imbi.....there wasn't any reviews or forums to begin with
technology those days were limited and things were more expensive (coz student boh $$$$)

maybe i should take some time to go look at budget speakers and study them

anyway......like i said....audiophile and hifi is a long journey
i'm still learning to listen after 15years and still learning how to tune systems

like my signature.....Life's Too Short For Boring HiFi......one day.....you will actually itchy backside and upgrade.....

Is Hivi MT-ST1 or MT-ST2 speaker stand gooding enough for B&W 685? I'm more into ST2 since it's fill-able.

what's a right stand for what speakers?

some experts say......the speaker stands are an extension for bookshelves speakers.....and i find this fact very true indeed
the stand acts like a resonant grounding for the speaker and in many cases....it helps expand the lower frequency spectrum as well

let's a take a look at original stands supplied by the same brand....

1. B&W 805s stands are metal structure with filled materials inside. base and speaker sitting plates are metal

2. Dynaudio stands....again...same thing...metal structure solid inside

3. sonus faber entry levels....same...again metal structure like the rest

4. sonus faber high end.....top end model.....mixture of concrete, granite, marble and steel....but still solid

bottom line...i think something that came solid...or add-in to make it solid should be better

why don't you go for the ori b&w stands?

Yes, I agree since I read thin or cheap stand will cause resonance and bad bass sound. However, the main reason I'm interested to get the stand I mentioned is due to limited budget. sad.gif

And ori B&W would cost about RM600 if not mistaken. And that's excluding shipping cost to Miri which is very expensive. Speaker stand at Miri cost about RM700. doh.gif It's hard to get into this hobby with small pocket. sad.gif

Don't worry about getting the stands first. Keep if for an equipment upgrade later. Yes, the stands do make a difference to the sound emanating from the speakers but it is not as if it will sound really horrible without the stands (as compared to having the stands). I have a pair of Sonus Faber Guarneri WITHOUT stands and it doesn't really worry me.

Well, the main reason I want to get stand is because I don't have place to put my speaker on. doh.gif And due to where I work now, it's troublesome to get a heavy solid TV table. Now searching for DiY version of stand for idea. sweat.gif

but it will sound complete with it.......

stand setup is important....either it kills your sound or it brings the best out of it

why don't you consider full solid timber stand?.....i think wood stands make better sound than metal stands
don't recall any floor stander with metal box.....

Miri shouldn't be an issue for solid timber

merbau would be good

You mean kayu merbau or Merbau Furniture? As for the timber, the villagers doesn't want to do it for me because this will reduce the amount of wood board they will produce which is more usable or profitable. doh.gif

Will check at nearest saw mill because I plan to build a DIY wood stand at the moment.

DIY idea: Get a pair of those tall vases. Fill up the hole at the bottom with putty or cement. Move it into position. Fill up the vase with aggregate/sand/etc. Place some kind of rubber pad on top of the vase and then the base plate on top of the rubber pad. Finally place your speakers on the base plate.

Dun know how the acoustics will sound but it is a speaker stand nonetheless.

DIY Option 2: Get a metal cage & a wooden crate big enuf to fit the speakers in. Get 8 adjustable metal cables. Fit one end of the cables to the edge of the wooden crate & the corresponding cable ends to the edges of the metal cage so as to suspend the crate in mid air. Fit the speakers into the crate.

Once again, dun know how it will sound though...

Vase is a no no in my case. Transporting a fragile item like that is very dangerous due to the log camp road journey for 8 hour, by 4x4. So far, my idea is something simple but solid.

Cosmetically, I plan to use two pieces of 2x3 wood and glue them together for a solid stand. Than screw on a base which is larger than the size of my speaker size. Now just wondering where to get the stand spike. I really love the fourth design above. Anyway, another cool stand but not sure how's the sound. laugh.gif

No way drilling my speaker. Haha.. BTW, my speaker size:

340 mm (H): 198 mm (W): 331 mm (D) 7kg.

Is it okay to get a stand that have a bit smaller base:

MT-ST1
http://newboxx.com/item.php?id=15916
Height: 64mm
Top plate: 175mm x 240mm
Bottom plate: 270mm x 320mm

MT-ST2
http://newboxx.com/item.php?id=15917
Measurement, top plate: 180 x 240mm
Measurement, bottom plate: 290 x 320mm
Height, overall (not including feet): 620mm

if the plate that supports your speakers should be close to your speaker size, preferably same or slightly bigger is ok

for the base plate, usually it is 25% larger
