Hi guys, currently looking for a speaker that will be good for mostly gaming and movies for my PS3 setup. Its in the living room so which speaker setup will you guys recommend? I would prefer a 5.1 setup and optical input. Budget below 3K. Thanks

I was thinking of:
1) Sony Mu Te Ki (HT-DDW5500)
2) Pioneer TODOROKI (HTP-RS7)

Any others you guys can recommend?

Guys I'm looking for a Micro Hi-Fi system. Budget is RM300 and below only. What do you guys recommend?

So far I've found Philips MCM-108B to be the best within the price range since it supports mp3 wma and so on. I need a Hi-Fi that can play CD-R/CD-RW music / mp3/ wma and of course with a radio tuner.

Dear Seniors,

Was thinking to go slightly deeper into the audiophile hobby. Would appreciate all your help in suggesting some speakers and amp (and anything else) to pair with my HTPC. Just bought the Asus Sonar STX SC to complement it recently. Will be playing mostly lossless formats and movies once in a while. Budget less than RM2k.

Btw, currently using Edifier C3 multimedia speakers which kinda sucks now after I listened to my fren's mid-range hi-fi :/

Thank you!

You can try browsing at www.hifi4sale.net, plenty of bargains. Last 2 days i see some 2nd hand speakers selling for 1k and below. Then you need an integrated amp which your STX suppose to connect to. 2k you can do it smile.gif Get bookshelf speakers which is easier to power. Happy hunting.

recently got a usher s-520 speakers paired with audiolab 8000A and rotel 965BX... connected using old monster interlink 400 interconnects and cheap ethereal speaker cables...

stands are on stools... hahahahaha.... money constraint la..

Not too bad in my oppinion... the usher sounds beautifully after runned in. and the highs are sweet adequate bass for room.

cheers!

Begin with speakers, some brands to look for are Wharfedale, Mission, Monitor Audio, Mordaunt-Short, Accoustic Energy, Tannoy, and many others. However those i list down, generally you can get with your budget.

Amps got many cheap 2nd hand. As a guide, entry level brands are like NAD, Marantz, Cambridge Audio, Rotel and many more.

Just to add on, always do a thorough check on used item especially amplifier and cd player before parting your money with it.

Hi sifus,

I am currently looking for a speaker pair, and struggling with these questions:

1. Floodstand vs bookshelf - i know this has been around for decades, but can anyone please offer me your opinions?

2. Sonus Faber Concertino Domus floorstander vs KEF iQ50- how is it?
3. KEF XQ20 vs KEF iQ30

What about Monitor Audio speakers? My budget is around 6k+

Please help

Thank you very much

Bs and Fs got their own advantage.

I chose floorstand cos i wanted more bass extention cos i like bass. Doesnt mean that bs dont have bass. Good bs have plenty of bass, question is enuf for you? If you listen a lot of heart hitting bass song, fs would suit you. If vocal, bs will do fine. Also fs needs to be played a bit louder for it to sound full and good compare to bs can do quite listening.

Regard the speakers you mention, have you go and try them yet? Im not sure about KEF but sonus is laid back type sound. This really comes down to your taste.

Monitor Audios are kinda bright for me.

6K budget, why dont try Dynaudio? Join meeeeee ^^

Can you tell me more about them, dlyz?

Oh ya, how much is Dynaudio and where can I buy them? Sorry for the noob questions.

Hi, im from Sarawak so for PG im not familiar... need to ask the PG ppl but i think there has been mention in some thread b4.

Well i guess Dynaudio can be classified as high end speakers. They are known to be one the most sensitive speakers and very musical and forward. Bass is superb. Their entry level bookshelf is about 4k +- and entry level floorstand 10k +-. Mine is the Audience Series which replace by Excite Series. Mine is 2nd hand... i dono how old also or the history but i manage to get it cheaper than a new Diamond 9.5, 2 of the drivers has been repaired, the boss tell me kids poked them. The hifi repairman is well known in town so im told and my friend (owner of few pairs of top range Dynaudio) tested the speaker for me and heard nothing wrong. In fact he was planning to buy them if i didnt. I saw my speaker going for 8.5k at Lowyat plaza.

Wow!! I didn;t know that Dynaudio is so great!! I like voice more than bass, but music without bass where it should have has no meaning either. I like musics, but i wouldn;t mind the bass tongue.gif

I'll go to Lowyat Plaza next week and audition them. You meant Tong Lee right?

Any one have other brand to recommend?

yes tong lee, but i hear ppl complain tat boss expensive... since u go there... got to sg wang too.. CMY is there also... they are the official distributer. A&L is there also.

Try Dynaudio (Denmark) CMY and Sonus Faber (Italy) Perfect Hifi and Dali (Denmark) A&L. I never try Dali before.

Warning, Dynaudio are very power hungry and need strong amps. smile.gif
