to me, it seems like a bottleneck product as the guys here are using better sources such as cdp or good soundcards.

Hey mate,

I'm based in Melaka but can travel anywhere to KL etc. What kind of budget should I be looking at, something closer to RM 3-4K?
*
Yeah, i guess around there. More is always better for sub.

Dynaudio is much more power hungry than 10.1 and he would have to spend a lot more on amp.. smile.gif

Man... i wish i can get a USD3k speaker as a gift too...

but seriously, that speaker is big would benefit from a lot of power, even tho rated at 90db 8ohm which is easy spec to drive, but i feel, more juice is still better. if can, maybe increase your budget if possible.

But for ur budget, can look at offerings from Marantz and NAD

Bro dlyz, can suggest me power conditioner below rm200? TQ.
*
I am not sure if any exist below Rm200. Maybe other sifu can help.

The cheapest i seen is my Tacima. It does well to clean up noise from power line. On my system, i notice better clarity, reduced noise and reduced sibilance. But u also lose a bit of dynamics and bass slam but i think its a good trade cos i hate sibilance a lot. With better powercord, i brought back some dynamics and slam. My friend also having tacima also observe same as me, at first he missed the slam and revert back to direct wall power, but in the end he, like me, chose clarity over power.

Last 6 mth i just bought a VDH powercord, yet to test that direct to wall.. wondering more expensive powercord have better power noise filtering ka.

Anyway, got my tacima from futureshop.co.uk, that time i think below RM220-240, but now i think GBP is up.. might cost more.

iszit like when u turn on the lights, ur speaker makes some sort of popping sound? i think conditioner will prevent that.

i am not 100% sure, but i think power conditioner is a power stabilizer and surge protector and a noise filter all in one. however i am sure tacima has surge protection built in.

perhaps a karaoke system will be better? or some mini hifi system.

generally guys here wont use their hifi for talking loudly with mic as they are considered delicate instruments. i do use mine during skype but for talking and soft volume.

oh thanks dude...AV Receiver and amp are the same is it ? i am a noob beginner haha

can recommend surround speakers+ onkyo/denon AV Receiver +cable ? smile.gif budget 2k..don mind a hundred more
*
AVR is a multichannel amp (5.1/7.1/etc) for home theater use. For movie, denon and onkyo seem to be the brand of choice. Its better to ask the guys on the home entertainment side, you will get better feedback.

does a expensive power chord make a noticeable difference in your setup?
*
Best if you can test it out. Perhaps someone can borrow you or if you have the pleasure of go for audition at a hifi store, can ask the ppl to demo to you.

To me, yes they make a difference when you compare branded vs generic. Expensive doesnt mean good. You have to synergy with your gear. And i feel they make more difference for the amp side. Source side i cant say they work or not as i have never try. I have a Supra which is Rm2xx cable vs a Mainstream which is a Rm8xx cable, the mainstream is just a teeny tiny bit better hmm.gif but for my friend in his marantz amp, it made a lot of difference (he also own the same powercords) to him.

Anyway, best if you can try, dont take my word 100%, you may experience something different.

Budget up to 5k.help me sifooooo
*
have you auditioned any hifi system? you need to know what sort of sound you are after or else it would be difficult to help. what i mean is warm or bright or detailed, etc

what i can advice you is, pick a speaker that you really like first (in term of sound signature). Then work you way to the amp and cdp. there is no fix rules but if i had 5k to work on, i would spend the bulk of the budget on speaker (2k). about 1000 for cdp, 1500 for amp, about 500 and below for cables. then again, there is no fix rule.

i always choose speaker first and build backwards as i believe speaker provide the most character among the other component (others might not agree). thats why i tend to allocate a bit more to speaker than amp. but make sure that you dont buy a too power hungry speaker cos then you need a powerful amp to drive it. also you can always upgrade your amp later tongue.gif

brands to look for in this price range is plenty but just to help you along:

speaker: wharfedale, monitor audio, psb, paradigm, dali, tannoy, mission, acoustic energy, q acoustic, mordaunt-short, etc

amp/cdp: marantz, NAD, cambridge audio, etc

in the end, if your gonna splash 5k, its good to go audition.
