For spec freaks & all concerned about speed, this unofficial comparison of ARC & Atrix Video is a good guide.
No doubt 2-core is faster, but to me ARC is fast & smooth enough for daily use. Android os & many softwares have yet to fully utilize dual core. Next upgrade only I'll get a dual-core phone :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ARILypqwRY...player_embedded |

QUOTE(stevenX @ Apr 29 2011, 08:44 PM) yeah let them buy first and see later lo .. who know while we wait n see than got se dual core or triple core .. Yes, dual core has not much advantage at the moment, as the os is not fully optimized for it and most apps are just single threaded anyway. The only real advantage at the moment is the "bragging rights" since se gonna have 2 dual core tablet q3 this year .. i dont think they wanna miss dual core smart phone .. than there will be another wait for us lol A single core done right can be just as smooth. Don't see any reason for me to change to SGS 2 yet I'll wait for a few months and see. In the meantime i'll check the SGS2 thread to see if there are any bugs/issues PS: Arc is already my 4th phone within 12 months.... if i change again, someone is going to nag me to death. QUOTE(hsyong @ Apr 29 2011, 07:51 PM) Seems Sammy has fixed the two big problems of the SGS (wonky GPS and lagging caused by RFS filesystem). From the SGS II reviews, GPS seems to be good. The filesystem is also EXT4 now. For me... I hope se can bring a good phone like arc with dual core.... Satisfied with their camera n design... Hopefully another sexy design with great camera n dual coreI'm tempted too. But since Android OS is not fully optimized for dual core yet, and most apps are single threaded, will hold on to the sexy Arc for a few more months before deciding |

Even a cheap Nokia RM200+ can do the job ( if not even better ) and besides Nokia there are also many other beautiful budget phones. When I want to spend 2K I want to maximise my usage from the phone in most aspects and I expect my phone to perform - I do not wish to see mediocre performance. 2K is a lot of money - just saw a report 70 % of Msian labour earns less than RM 1000/month. RM 2K is many young graduate/college average starting pay. Maybe I am an old guy with different thinking from most of you younger chaps - if I spend 2k, I wish to see 2K value. This of course does not apply to those who are cash rich and have deep pockets and 2k is only pocket change |

I think Arc is worth the ~2K value ... SGS II at launch will be RM2.5K? 2.7K?
I'm a casual/general user and even tho i like the SGS II, Arc is more than enough for my use. Maybe stevenX has left out a few other uses for general phone users like me ... call, sms, mms, camera, music, email, web browsing, casual gaming (Angry Birds, Chalk Ball, Pinball Deluxe, WordzUp, BitWords, Blast Monkeys etc)... Arc is more than capable in handling all these with ease. Heck, even Xperia Play with those large 3D games is single core. Do i really need a dual-core? Nope, as it makes almost no or minimal difference with all these single threaded apps/games....... Do i like to have a dual core? Yes, just for the novelty This post has been edited by hsyong: Apr 30 2011, 12:40 AM |

Went and got my Arc today.
How do I know if it really is an original set? The sticker behind the phone says SE and Dynamics. Original? |

There are rational spenders & there are impulsive spenders. I check FB & emails on the phone frequently. I browse net on phone most of the time. I read ebook once in a while. I read news often. I use calculator/calender/dictionary/to-do list almost daily I listen to mp3 a lot. I show off the sexiness / slimness or ARC everytime I like to take photos with its great camera I connect it to TV to show photos to my friends I use maps to go to some places i dont know. RM2k is not that bad for Arc considering that we paid ~RM1.8k for a top camera phone and Nokia charging 2.5k for their N-series those days.

512MB Ram is very decent for Android. Most users will never have the out of Ram issue as Android manages Ram differently and efficiently. You may see sometimes your Ram is low but it is normal -- Android tries to use as much Ram as possible. It may not unload apps completely from memory after use. it will just keep adding up and if it needs more, then the OS will automatically clear some of the memory (based on priority of all the loaded processes).
This method is good because if you want to use an app that you have used recently, it will load faster. And for those who think that some stutters or microlags (with any type of Android phone) are due to Ram, it may NOT be the case. It might be caused by the manufacturer custom UI needing more optimization, processes working in background and also due to the fact that Android does not use hardware acceleration. |
