I2 = Insight Gen 2

My only concern is that the IMA Battery is not design for country with extreme hot weather like ours.
*
In some part of US, there were areas where the temperature are even hotter than us. Not to say the humidity after winter. Still no battery complaint since I1 (since 1999).

For me these battery issue are just hearsay. Maybe theres one or two isolated cases globally where battery spoils under warranty but it was more on the manufacturing defects rather than genuine or typical issues with the battery.

U can always google around and look for any common problems with the car (if theres any). U can also read this long term test drive for example.

I just hope what u guys said are right because all of the comments from people in the US facing problem with the IMA battery only happens during summer time.

Also the IMA Battery warranty is only applicable if the IMA System failure indicator appears. Meaning if your IMA battery shut-off or has lower charge to assist the engine and causes the milleage performance to drop but is not fully failing, Honda Malaysia won't replaced it.

Maybe I should wait a little while before getting one.
Thanks for all the feedback.

The lifespan of the battery also puzzles me initially. Our normal NiMh battery which we used on older version laptop or handphones usually lasted only 2 to 3 years only.

For the insight, Honda dares to warrant the battery for 5 years. And most of the 1st generation Insight (since 99-2000) still running on their original battery. I'm pretty sure a thorough R&D has been done to make sure these hybrid cars are practical and as reliable as its normal combustion cars. I dont mind if the battery has to be replace after 8 to 10 years coz normal cars will also gone thorough major service by then (which also quite costly).

At least we have 1.3 in case the battery is causing trouble. blush.gif

Wanna ask u guys who gone through 5k service. How was it?

I'm a bit skeptical on whether HM technician competent enough to properly maintain Honda Insight.

As i remembered, some of earlier Honda City with CVT (2003) was incorrectly maintain, using normal ATF despite CVTF which cause some earlier batch facing premature gearbox problem. So much for an authorized service center for doing that mistakes.

This time they are facing a very new tech hybrid vehicle. Anything can go wrong if they didnt conduct proper service and didnt have enough training & experience. Even worst as the car was not assemble by Honda Malaysia so the technical know-how is very limited. Can we trust them?

I have tried the inside hybrid but seems that the power is lower than the civic hybrid...

Overall tech the inside is batter but power wise is still civic batter.
If not mistaken the civic can run on pure battery for 0kmh - 40kmh after that petrol engine kick in ...

But for the inside when move petrol engine already start to run the battery engine is just assisting  the petrol engine event when the eco mode is on …
*
I never tested the civic hybrid so cant comment on the power.

But Insight also run on pure battery only. At speed up to 60kmh on flat road. Can see the indicator showing only battery feeding the power. The i-vtec running on close mode. When the engine kicks in, can feel slight kick, felt like normal auto shifting gear.

when i press the fuel pedal the car direct start the engine i press damn light already kekekeke...
*
Not necessary have to switch ECON on. But the pure battery mode seems extended when the econ on. try out and see.

just did my 5000km servicing just now. There are not many workshops able to service hybrid cars, who else can we trust if not our own Honda workshops? we have no choice. Anyway , at 5000km, they only change the oil filters
*
Have to. At least for the time being.

I'm quite amaze on how some westeners confident level toward Japanese make. Some of them just maintain the car themselves and kept everything recorded in case something major gone wrong. They did mention that this car servicing and maintenance item is just the same like any other normal cars.

Some of them even bought the service manual and take things on their own hands. Not to mention how they scan the IMA system and modified the software to boost the power and/or increase mileage (they called it MIMA which obviously means modified IMA) thumbup.gif

Power quite the same with civic

Yup i feel that too. The 1.8 one.

About the brakes, i have the feeling that this car can use rear disk from City E. Maybe few years down the road we can consider that mod. Current setup is excellent in term of grip. Its more on the 'appearance'. cool2.gif

just saw another insight white color beside the road with emergecny light and tow truck. seems stalled

whats going on with insight
*
Hope those stalled Insight was due to empty fuel tank. Well maybe some of the owner were ill informed and thought that the Insight can run on battery only, without fuel.

Otherwise, if its technical prob, we're doom. cry.gif

Finally, clocked 1060km.  The fuel indicator needle is touching the word E but I believe still can go another 50km but dare not to try.  Pump another full tank, Caltex RON95, RM66.65.  85% highway, 15% city.
*
1060km per tank? Really? Salute!

Embarrassing moments with honda insight is that your passengers complain that your aircon is not cool (new car some-more) although hearing the aircon is blowing. You need to explain to them that the eco mode is on n ac is off but not the blower. Honda insight shall improve its aircon panel display indicating that the ac is off when this happen, it will be perfect then.
*
You can always manually override the blower.

Hypermilling tips when you run using autocruise;

Try to reduce blue zone/maintain green zone at incline by inching down on the set speed using Decel/SET button. The car will obviously slows down getting up the hill, depending on the degree of incline.

When the car going downhill, press Accel/RES button to extend the green zone and speed up the car. By then will got enough momentum for the next slope.

More green zone, better mileage. In the meantime your legs are still rest free.

Quite exciting. Like playing game using joystick. Have a try.

Anybody used to A.SEL (auto-select) on the FM radio? What is the different between A.SEL and RDS?

Reading Insight manual, i understand that using A.SEL, the radio can maintain 1 station for long journey when the frequency changes according to areas. I believe RDS also meant for that. Does Insight A.SEL function well?

It should serve its basic purpose. At least novice theft cant steal it.

But these theft always strive for success. For them, when theres a will, theres a way.

Prius engine are totally different from Insight. Prius using 1.8 Atkinson cycle engine (1 combustion per engine revolution) different from Insight which is using normal Otto cycle engine (1 combustion per 2 revolution). The hybrid electric motor setup also different, Prius serial, Insight parallel. In other word, Prius more complex, Insight more simple.

Maybe due to that reason, Prius drivetrain is quite sensitive and need to use specific type of engine oil/ other lub and liquid. Didnt know if Insight will also face the same issue. Hopefully not.

Are you selling rear view camera ?  tongue.gif
Viewing is difficult for most drivers because of small rear window as highlighted in the forum previously. Maybe adding a bigger mirror to the existing tiny ones help.
*
I'm not selling it but i can suggest something like this:
http://www.lelong.com.my/7-inch-high-defin...2-01-Sale-P.htm

It snaps on our existing rear view mirror. Quite nice. Surf around.

How do you hide the rear camera behind the insight?
*
Sorry typo. not 'I snaps', Its snaps.

Planning to put that. The wiring can tap from 12V interior socket and reverse light socket. The camera can be mounted below bumper. maybe have to make some simple bracket.

So far i have only fixed my old dvd player. Next, tweeters and subs. Then only reverse cam.

@westlife; Your reply doesn't help in the least. I have checked 6 dealers in and out of the Klang Valley. The reason why I would post in here is to leverage on people who would happen to know. If you know, a reply would be much appreciated. Otherwise, I would prefer if you simply did not reply.

I got ready stock. 1 unit. Pearl White. Who want quick PM me. Reminder; not KL area.

And me think westlife just wanna suggest next course of action. Next time got TT i'll treat u both drinks. Peace guys. nod.gif

Today i turned off radio and when accelerate I hear some very slight grinding noise, not sure if ts from the electric motor or gearbox, no noise when back off the pedal.  Anyone hears the same noise from their insight?

Also, anyone check their tyres pressure?  I find my insight's ride a bit harsh on rough road and hope it can be improved by decrease a bit of tyre pressure.
