QUOTE(seantang @ Jun 9 2011, 10:48 PM) That's HDB, right? Pricey, I'd have to say. At above $2 per sq ft on paper I also would say it is pricey cos around the area I also looked at a few places that were like $1.70-$1.80 per sq ft (rental per month). But after seeing like a dozen places over the last week+ ... it's the best value (to me). don't mind paying extra for very close to mrt + (relatively) big 4NG + full furnished + nice ceiling fixtures & etc after renovation ... don't care lah ha ha. QUOTE(alaskanbunny @ Jun 9 2011, 11:09 PM) u lor wahlau i am small fry junior manager level only leh. see my rental place also need to find hdb and not condo. |

guys just for sake of discussion (i'm poor, can't afford) ... i see on the LTA website that OPC (off peak car) rebate is $17k.
but latest COE bid is $62k. so effectively speaking, now u buy new off peak car also still need to fork out $45k to government? or is my understanding of the off peak car scheme fundamentally wrong? |

@sean ehe nolah was just asking how the off peak scheme works. cos at the current COE price of 60-70k, a 17k discount is like hardly worth mentioning, so I was wondering what all the fuss is about.
on the other hand moving back 1+years to like jan-mar 2010 ... coe then was ~20k, so in that context a 17k discount makes a lot more sense to give up daytime driving. |

QUOTE(ivanswk @ Jun 15 2011, 02:36 PM) your salt is powerful I am no good Rome wasn't built in a day. You can't reasonably expect to be pulling 10k+ directly out of college/uni. Being $2k now isn't anything to be ashamed of, but if you want to be a $10k+ earner in the future then make sure you have a plan to get there (and not just hope it'll fall out of the sky into your lap). |

QUOTE(Lester1987 @ Jun 15 2011, 04:56 PM) kallang is in Geylang area lo. so beware of which lorong u enter. scare later u enter the wrong house Are you a guy or a girl? if guys then nvm la, worst come to worst also ppl say u go cari ayam. if girls, someone might come over and ask u for your price. hahahha one of my colleagues said that geylang got "code" one, the lorong number will roughly correspond to (1) whether got ayam or not and (2) what country the girls are from ... haha! was during dinner at the beef noodle & frog leg porridge place that he said that @yinyum/ivan: not so hard to plan one. within your industry/company/job scope, you look upwards you will also know agak agak how high you need to climb in order to achieve your target $$. so the question then is just building whatever needed education, qualifications, certifications, experience, and skills so that you can rise to that target. example i'm currently sort of a hybrid IT/projects/finance line. in order to sit in my boss place, i need experience in running projects and some sort of formal qualification - either PMP or MBA in Proj Mgmt. The former will come naturally in my current role, the latter I need to plan with regards to sacrificing time & money & effort to get that qualification. Then after that it's a matter of looking for opportunities, whether it's within the same company or elsewhere. |

QUOTE(keelim @ Jun 16 2011, 07:50 AM) The servings are in ceramic bowls and not the typical claypot. At first it was a turnoff given the norm of serving Bah kut teh in claypot. But it turn out very tasty just on par with all the best bah kut teh you could find in Klang. Hmm lots of the the better bkt in klang are served in individual ceramic bowls and not claypot. the ones in klang with claypot are sort of ... just average tasting haha. pao xiang i've tried a few of their branches in kl and ... for klang standard it's just "above average" only. if you have the opportunity, go to the "under the bridge" ones near/around the klang ktm komuter station - those are widely thought of as the best bkts. |

Ok I'm a few pages late, but just wanted to weigh in on the 3G data coverage. I'm on starhub green (prepaid), buying 7-day 1.5gig plans at $7 per week.
What I notice is that in high density areas like malls, etc, the 3G speed is atrocious. Even though signal strength is 4- or 5- bars, i get slow speeds, bad latency, etc. |

Here we go with the WP bashing again
http://www.lta.gov.sg/motoring_matters/mot...de_overview.htm QUOTE Any work pass holder, who is neither a Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR) nor a resident of Singapore, may drive a foreign-registered car and motorcycle in Singapore only if ALL these conditions are met: a) he is the registered owner of the vehicle ; b) he resides outside Singapore; c) the vehicle is kept or used outside Singapore for a total period of 6 hours or more everyday ; d) he has a valid insurance certificate and road tax for the use of the vehicle on Singapore roads ; and e) the vehicle has an Autopass Card to validate its entry/exit at Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints and for payment of Vehicle Entry Permit/Toll charges. Eh we working & staying in singapore not allowed to drive malaysian cars in? |

@Lester: Thanks. Trying to figure out what to do with my (malaysian registered) car. Don't wanna sell cos the market price is less than loan redemption price by like rm8k. Might as well keep since it's <$200/mth installment.
For now, sister using but in aug she go study ... then the car ... ?!? park in JB on the weekdays then friday night bus to JB and drive car into SG for the weekend? |

Invest it to recoup whatever's been depreciated before you sold it. Yeah, been checking out the loan redemption and the current market value (damn you 9 year loan), seems like I won't really lose that much after all - looking at 1-2thousand RM. Selling time! Oo I went to Expo just now to check out the Courts sale. Since I've only been in SG a few weeks maybe I haven't got a proper "sense" of the strength of SGD, but a lot of things there seem damn cheap leh. $10 irons, $3xx 32" LCD TVs, $2k 47-inchers, etc etc.
Too bad I dun have apartment yet so couldn't really buy ... |

HDB requirements too strict ler. Buy secondary market too expensive, buy primary market need to convert citizenship (or buy with a Singaporean). But then also the $8k combined income ceiling too easy to bust.
@precursor: get a Malaysian doctor to certify us as unsound mind ... then can withdraw before 50 XD |
