wat the!!! 1k usd a day? wow... thats freaking awesome! haha...
i am just a fresh graduate, so will have to start from bottom.
i guess, i shall take up this challenge eventhough ppl says that jurong shipyard work is a nightmare at times.
just work hard for few years and lets see from there. haha...
i am not sure where will i be assigned to, but i definitely have to go for the training and etc.
so i guess my starting pay would be 2.5k - 3k SGD.
*
Thats not so bad if your starting pay is 2.5-3K.

The manpower guys who will be working under you are earning around 600-800 as welders and fitters.

Do you know anything about Gabon?

Read this: Gabon. There are good reasons why people are paid so much to work there.
*
Mainly due to "security reasons".

But its not so bad since we have armed escorts and any travel to the rigs or ship is done exclusively on helicopters which minimize the risk of being ambushed and being held for ransom.

oh!!! hahaha... i didnt know anything. muahaha... i am wondering wats the normal average safety officer pay in 5 years time?
oic... do u know how much would i probably expect to get in 5 years time?
lets say if everything goes on average. average growth.
roughly 5k possible?
*
If you stick to working for the shipyard, that sounds about right. Maybe abit conservative on the figure.

If you want 2 earn big bucks in the least amount of time, get some additional certs and go freelance. There are a number of international manpower websites which offer very lucrative jobs, but you need exp, certs and the willingness to work in out-of-the-way places like gabon, angola, the caspain sea, Azerbaijan etc etc.

Or you gave a good impression with one of your clients while your working in JS, they may just offer you a job like what i did with transocean as a contract staff. I heard Noble drilling just hit black gold in brunei and gave their rig operators a big fat bonus, around 12-18 months if im not mistaken and these guys earn around 400 usd a day.

You studied in melaka? you from melaka?

This is just purely my opinion.
I think you can take legal action.
However, the landlord can just allow you to rent like as before if they found out you want to sue them.
Do you still want to go through the hassle and sue?
If not, comes the question, do you still want to stay there with bad blood already in place.  laugh.gif  laugh.gif
If you decide not to, then this time round, you will be seen as the one pulling out.  doh.gif  doh.gif
*
Most tenancy agreements tend 2 favour towards the landlord for obvious reasons. But then again singapore tenancy agreements can be more of a hassle due to the very nature of the landlord and the environment.

yeah i study in mmu melaka. haha... from perak.
well, i will go for the 2nd interview and check out the place if it suits me.
coz i think the job will be crazy hectic and also stressful.
i got another job offer in melaka as service engineer. so currently thinking which should i go for if get offered by both.
*
Ohh, ipoh mali fella.

Btw, the reason why rig heads or rough necks who operate the oil rigs earn alot more money then an a normal mech or service engineer, engineers usually arent exposed to the risk like what these guys face everyday. One reason why accidents happen is due to the 12hour shifts these guys have to work, when fatigue sets in, its a recipe for disaster since loss of concentration is sure to follow and mishaps will happen.

been looking around property websites, pasir ris/tampines, apartments seem to be around 2.0-2.5k sgd per month. pretty much that's the average price ... right?
*
Yup around there. But the houses over there are usually executive hdbs which means their much bigger then their equivalent counterparts in places like ang mo kio and such.

Did anyone attend the rallies particularly the opposition? Looks like it's gonna be a hge swing in votes this time around. Oppositions are harping on housing and foreigner issues. Judging from the presence if the crowd it looks like a landslide results favoring the opposition.
*
Just because alot of people attended the oppositions rally doesnt mean the opposition is gonna win. Though the opposition may have valid arguments, at the end of the day, most people are selfish in nature and will vote those who fulfill their selfish needs. If that political party does things which morally you are against but it also has a proven track record of delivering on bread and butter issues, the most people will vote becoz of the bread and butter issues.

One good example would be one singaporean fella i know who doesnt like the PAP and grumbles about them everyday but still votes for them since he doesnt want his current "lifestyle" to change. Talk about being a hypocrite.

Just give a call to the person who attended your case. It may be something as simple as the person being overseas unable to progress. It took me about 2 months also, from interview to obtaining my EP.
It looks like a good course to take. I'm interested to take up some short courses / diplomas to widen my skillset. Can you share on other similar courses (1 year or less) as well?
Just apply for a Training Employment Pass, I was in the same situation as you and that's what my company applied for me.
*
Im currently focued on this since i am interested in the safety aspect due personal experiences with the safety standards, or lack thereof in singapore.

What use is it to train foreign nationals in aspect of workplace safety when some of them cant even understand the questions and the examiner will give them tips since he pitys them since if those guys dont work, then they dont get any money since their paid daily wages.

And alot of SME sub-contractors will give "under table money" to the shipyards to make safety issues, "go away". Just ask keppel tuas, according to mom law, whenever you enter into a ship or confined space, it has to be a 2 man team but keppel is allowing and encouraging some of its contractors to send only one guy since they can cut cost or to pocket the spare change into their own pockets.

The sad thing is, it was the sub-contractor who made this suggestion to the QA/QC department in keppel tuas and now its practically mandatory to send a one man team.

Whoever said satan wont screw you over after you've made a promise with him, its a given that he will. And yet after malaysians complain about the current government, they will still vote for BN due to bread and butter issues as well as fear of an untested political party to handle the country.

By voting for the political party which you constantly have gripes with is akin to you digging your own grave but lamenting why your in it in the first place.

Look at the goodies PAP gave before GE. As a PR, I am thinking what they will do to 'US' to recover much more than what they gave out.

watch out the possible increase in Property tax, utility bill, SMRT fare after GE

coz

Your HDB owner will transfer the cost to your rental.

Too bad the solution is out of your hands, all you can do is watch and wait for the inevitable. Its gonna happen, just a matter of when.

Anybody can give advice on upgrade of the internet package?

My fren wants to upgrade this his current internet plan, he's currently on starhub and is planning to upgrade to a higher speed but he is unsure whether to go continue with starhub or try M1 since he's currently on cable and he wont go for the fiber since he has to bear the cost of the installation of the fiber optic service as well as being locked into a 2 year contract in that flat, unlike the cable whereby he can just move his account to a new location, the fiber option wont.

Installation of fibre optic is free for HDB if you make an appointment with them on the pre-selected weeks, determined by Open Net. 100mbps is really fast ! I'll probably switch to fibre optics next month.
*
Thats no problem if you own your own house, those who rent have to bear the cost of the installation of the fiber optic which is around $ 200 as well as being locked into a 2 year contract.

And the real kicker is its non-transferable. So if you signed up for the fiber optic in that particular residence, you cant just move to another place and port your fiber optic service.

Yes you are right, you can save $30 for the 3 years access card fees. But you still need to go to the automated lane on the on the most left lane (woodlands checkpoint) that also for access card holder, not the PR and Singaporean lane.

I am in the process updating my passport renewal information with MOM. I am not sure if need to update with ICA a not. But ICA do have linkage with MOM.

Cost of installation is free by OpenNet. You only need to pay the installation if you missed the free installation period. They will go area by area, you need to wait for them to come to you.
*
Besides the fiber installation, theres the activation fee for the fiber which is around 200 as well. So its beneficial for those who own a home or those who plan to stay at their current residence for more then 2 years.

OpenNet has a Facebook page. The wall is practically full of complaints and requests for service follow up.
*
Its natural for a country whose favourite past time is complaining.

My current make shift office has switched to fiber and so far its been stable and the speed are rather consistent. I can stream multiple 720p videos on youtube with no problems and nobody doesnt complain about the lack of bandwidth.

What info you need to provide MOM when u renew ur passport?
Great updates. Any way if temporarily EP holder, they call it "in principle" EP as medical check up not yet done before start work are able to enjoy the automated machine lane like normal EP?
*
I wonder why MOM doesnt inform EP holders that they can pass through the auto-gate?

Usually its the immigration officer who gives the puzzled question "Why arent you using the auto-gate lane since your on EP?"

Hooray, just came back from Singapore holiday few days ago, today I receive call to be interviewed in Singapore next week smile.gif
Hopefully I get hired smile.gif as I like the lifestyle there.
But I'm unsure on the working lifestyle there though, especially in semicon engineering industries. Anyone had any idea?

Hopefully i dont end up living like a bangla
*
You'll need to either work in the marine or construction line as a general labourer to get the "bangla" living status.

$150-200 for their dormitories which they usually share 4 guys in a single room.

hi, i have a question here regarding the home broadband. we are planning to sign up the starhub max online. however, we are only renting a room. i can see that there is a starhub SVC square thing in my room and the tenant is not using any broadband service and the port for internet at the spliter is available.

so my question is, can i use the internet port to subscribe to maxonline? do i need to get the tenant's consent and etc? i have asked a few starhub shop but everyone is giving me different answer. some saying i need to get the tenant's consent letter and some saying only the tenant himself can sign up.

anyone experience this before? thanks.
*
Yes you can use the SCV.

Not sure about tenants consent but it would be a safe option to inform the landlord you are going to apply and if there is anything you need from the landlord on their end on how to proceed, if necessary.

You mean "the landlords" consent letter right since your the tenant?

There isnt any problem for the tenant to sign up since the contract is tied to your name and not the landlords, its just the premise which you are currently occupying that you want 2 apply the broadband for. Most if not all landlord would prefer that the tenant apply for his/her internet since its one less thing to worry about.

thanks. actually the SCV is for home broadband or TV only? or in order for the home broadband to function, i need both the SCV and internet port? thanks...
*
SCV in multi function. Its used for both cable tv and cable modem. One cable to rule them all.

I dont know about the tv part since im currently on starhubs cable modem internet service, i didnt sign up for their cable tv since i dont watch tv so often since my work schedule is erratic most of the time.

true enough. i also have no idea at all.
coz they came to my uni interview 50+ students. they choose only me for safety officer.
thats why they ask me to go to their shipyard this monday to see the place and meet their safety manager.
jurong shipyard condition i think very tough rite?
true... thats why i am very skeptical. indeed the pay in SG is nice compared to malaysia.
but if 2 years bond, i worry i cannot stand the working environment and etc
*
Everybody can adapt to a working environment, its just a matter if the person is willing to do so.

Working as a HSE for a shipyard is nothing compared to a welder or fitter in the same line.

These guys work from 8-5 or more depending on how much OT they can amass, they have to work in confine spaces with very poor ventilation and under very hot and humid conditions and they have to inhale what ever gases aka welding gases produced while welding which is harmful to you in the long run without proper respiratory mask since their only given those to prevent dust particulates but not for welding fumes or either organic or inorganic chemicals within the surrounding area.

If you've never entered into a ship b4, be prepared to get heat blasted since in the current weather now. I used my watch termometer to gauge the ambient temp in the ships boiler room and it was hovering around 40C with the welding and grinding work being done.

In this line of work, strength of character determines whether you bend or break under the working environment. From what you've mentioned, i dont think you'll last so its better to not embarrassed yourself when you finally tell the company your resigning within the contract period since you cant take the working environment.

bro, i totally agree with u.
thats why, i am going there this monday since i already promised to go and set everything up.
i better go and see and decide then rather than backing up now and cancel the whole interview thing.
thanks bro. i thought over this for 2 weeks and really find it hard to decide coz i want a job with a good prospect.
some says HSE is a dead end job, while others say its on demand.
in Msia, i dont think they are highly rated compared to Sg.
*
At least your not working in keppel tuas since recently there were 2 work related deaths, both involving subi's.

Do you know whats a PPE?
