Froyo is more suitable for phone, no?  hmm.gif
*
well, if purely as a media player + medium resolution (800x480 or 854x480) i think FroYo is fine... the main thing abt Honeycomb's UI change is to take full advantage of the increased screen estate in tablets...

anyway for ppl who hold a media player they won't be so concerned with updates anyway... juz pretty it up with a nice UI is already good enuf... nod.gif

NICE!  notworthy.gif
Wah, the Full USB Port is like the ones we have on our PCs? With it, we can do a lot of stuffs on the "Antares"
But apart from that, doesn't seem very unique, and its definitely going to be pricier than its rivals because its a Tosh  sad.gif
*
yeah, a full USB 2.0 port, same as the ones on desktops/laptops... so i suppose u can stick a 3G Modem onto it...

at the very least, it's cheaper than Xoom, and has 3 different capacity to choose from... laugh.gif it's the only 10" in the market to come with 8GB ROM only...

imho i will go for Transformer + Keyboard combo... the Transformer keyboard is one of the most useful tablet accessory i ve ever seen... 16GB is the sweet spot for Android now (from my experience on original Galaxy Tab), and microSD dun cost a bomb anyway... and Transformer (without keyboard) is also one of the cheapest tablet in the market now...

Anyone preordering the Transformer from Singapore? 699 SGD for the 16GB version and free keyboard dock.

http://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/tech-news/view/164904

Limited to 100 units though.
*
sold out already...

does it come with camera anyway?

and "free" keyboard indeed... SG$699 = US$561... and in US it's US$400 + US$150 for Transformer and keyboard...

Yes comes with camera.. But the camera apparently is quite bad, worse than mobile phone ones.. One of the users gave a review and commented it on YouTube..
iOS still seems to be smoother overall looking at the YouTube video.. But Multi tasking definitely beats iOS4 hands down..

Asus Transformer review is out... Hmm... UI doesn't look so good as I suspected... Seems like Honeycomb still need some tweaks and Asus needs to get their software done properly, though everything else looks really impressive... I take back my words, I think iPad2 is still gonna dominate for now...
*
u ve to take into the account that Engadget = iGadget...

QUOTE(piscesguy @ Apr 19 2011, 11:58 AM)
I can live with that. No point having lots of apps but not stable OS and occasionally lag device.. laugh.gif

BB Playbook is freaking fast, not lag and ultra smooth UI makes me... drool.gif
*
seriously, if u want to compare BlackBerry's tablet OS against iOS and Honeycomb, i would say there's no fight at all...

sure it runs fast, but there's still quite a lot of rough edges that needs to be smoothen out first... not that iOS nor Honeycomb is perfect (the former needs a UI overhaul to suit the larger screen, while the latter needs to work more on security - Google admitted that corners were cut in making Honeycomb so as to speed up it's development, and till now Honeycomb is still not released for general consumption yet), but there's still quite a lot of catching up for RIM (and the others), if they re serious abt the tablet market... especially when iPad is basically dominating the market now... no pt having a pretty UI/shell when the inside is crap...

supporting Android apps out of the box is the right direction, let's see wat else RIM has in their sleeves...

Talking about that hardware, it has Dual HD cameras (3 MP front facing, 5 MP rear facing), supports 1080p FHD video recording. thumbup.gif

Comes with 16/32/64GB memory..means can install gigabytes worth of Android apps, without worrying memory space.
I believe running apps in internal memory is wayyyy faster than SD cards !!! whistling.gif

At 1024 x 600 pixel resolution on a 7" display, the PlayBook is packing a pixel density of ~170 pixels per inch  drool.gif  cool2.gif (compare to 132ppi on iPad)
which it delivers a crystal clear and bright picture. Photos and HD videos look amazing on the PlayBook. rclxms.gif
*
honestly i dun see which Honeycomb tablets cannot rival it in terms of hardware...

take LG Optimus Pad for example...

2MP front camera, dual 5MP rear cameras, capable of 3D 1080p recording
32GB ROM + microSD expansion
1280x768 8.9" monitor

RIM needs something else to distinguish itself from the others... so far it basically look more like a Galaxy Tab or a Flyer competitor...

but personally i prefer Asus Transformer or Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9...

At least iPad2 still have features that is above every competitor ATM.. I don't see any in Playbook except being one of the only 7inch tablets lol..

OOT: I noticed you put 60D into your wishlist lol, why not 600D instead?
*
erm, u forgot the original Galaxy Tab? laugh.gif

hmm, i haven't seen the review from my favourite site, so it's 60D at the moment... laugh.gif

New tech doesnt mean to implement immediately....many thing to be consider, price, availabilty, reliabilty, etc etc...

U have a good spec but still lag, no point lar.
*
yeah, but thing is it's competitors have those features way ahead of them, and it's not difficult to implement...

wifi tethering has been in Android since FroYo, and if u count rooting, even earlier, Cupcake...

copy and paste and multitasking are juz another 2 classic examples... these are like features that ppl would expect in the latest mini computer...

what surprised me more is that it took Toshiba so long to come up with a market name (but still end up being the same as some other devices)... doh.gif

juz go on with Folio, i think that's fine...

Toshiba is not know to be good with software anyway... unlike Samsung who has been fiddling with mobile OS for so many years... Android 2.x on tablet is not really a simple task since u re dealing with a phone OS on a "non-phone"...

let's juz hope Toshiba learnt their lessons and Thrive will work on Honeycomb better...
