Added on April 5, 2011, 5:43 pmbtw, Snapdragon is only the name of the platform, which consists of the Scorpion CPU core and Adreno GPU core...

also, Snapdragon has "similar features as Cortex-A8", and is based on ARM v7...

Flyer uses Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 overclocked at 1.5GHz... and it will receive Honeycomb, probably when HTC releases the new 10" tablets...

Added on April 5, 2011, 6:37 pmregarding Folio (from Wikipedia):

Tegra2, 8GB ROM, 512 MB RAM, 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth, 3G, SD and MMC card readers, 3 megapixel camera, FM tuner

similar spec as Iconia A100... more than sufficient for Honeycomb...

Regarding Tegra2, there is a mystery tablet launching soon... and maybe that is why Folio AS100 will not be getting Honeycomb upgrade.

Laptops often come with VGA and HDMI ports right?
Where do we usually find DVI?  hmm.gif
*
desktop GPUs... high end ones usually DisplayPort + HDMI... mainstream ones are usually DVI + HDMI... low end probably HDMI + DVI + VGA...

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Apr 6 2011, 03:57 PM)
LOL, I'm getting more and more confused, what's displayport?
And how come the more low-end the GPUs are, the more varieties of ports they have?  shocking.gif
Again, sorry if the question sounds too silly, noob here hehe~
*
HDMI was designed for TVs and DVD players, not computers... it was adopted in GPUs since it's the trend... downside of HDMI is that for every port created, a royalty will need to be paid (US$0.04/port, or US$10k/yr for high volume production)...

DisplayPort, on the other hand, is free, and thus was quickly adopted by computer hardware makers... and also, u can link up multiple monitors with DisplayPort (eg GPU -> Monitor A, Monitor A -> Monitor B, Monitor B -> Monitor C... instead of GPU -> Monitor A, GPU -> Monitor B, GPU -> Monitor C)

basically it's compatible with HDMI, but will require converters as well when converting to DVI and VGA...

the reason with the port varieties is that usually, when u can afford better hardware, u ve newer hardware as well... imagine u ve a GTX 560/HD6970, but using a 15" 1024x768 VGA monitor, that doesn't sound logical at all right? u'll be using a 23" Full HD monitor with DP/HDMI instead...

the lower end cards ve more varieties so as to accommodate those upgrading from older hardware... 17"/19" 1280x1024 VGA monitors are still pretty prevalent in business, and they dun need state of the art GPU...

NVIDIA drops Android support for older Tegra 2 devices!
*
BUSTED!

this is wat NV has to say:

QUOTE
A lot has been read into a very short post about a Tegra development kit. I’d like to clear up a few points.
First, nothing changes in what we’re delivering to the open source community or customers. NVIDIA will continue to post the Tegra kernel to kernel.org and publish our Android code to our public git servers. Additionally, we will continue to make our BSP (codecs, GPU driver etc) available to all our hardware partners. We will continue to do this and nothing about these processes has changed.
For our partners’ Android devices, NVIDIA provides support until the hardware partner chooses to no longer support the device. So, for instance, NVIDIA will support the Xoom on all versions of Android Motorola requests until Motorola ceases to support the Xoom. The same goes for ViewSonic with the G-Tablet, Notion Ink with the Adam, Acer with the Iconia, LG with the Optimus 2X and so on.
In relation to my original reply, that was a response to a specific question about a Tegra 250 Development Kit. Given the confusion, we will work with owners of Tegra 250 Development Kits individually to determine their needs. The term "Harmony" is an internal codename for the Tegra 250 Development Kit. It is not a tablet reference design. Each shipping tablet is a custom design with varying hardware components and requires a custom OS image from the OEM who made the tablet.
Finally, while we cannot support or give out third party peripheral drivers or provide the Android 3.0 source before Google does, we do want to explore whether we can assist the open source ROM makers. We will be reaching out to them today.

Added on April 14, 2011, 12:16 pmbtw, Ray, take note Galaxy Tab dun use Tegra, at least not confirmed yet... most ppl are speculating Samsung's own CPU, the Exynos 4210 (aka Orion), which is less bulky than Tegra...

A majority of ppl here are iPhone users, and will probably go for iPads instead?  hmm.gif

Based on the review, seems like the BB Playbook still requires some improvements  hmm.gif

lol, BB is popular in the business market... eg since BBM is highly encrypted... nod.gif

however i think Android is trying to take onto the challenge... Gingerbread has many business oriented security features built into it...
