LOL, I'm getting more and more confused, what's displayport?
And how come the more low-end the GPUs are, the more varieties of ports they have?
Again, sorry if the question sounds too silly, noob here hehe~
HDMI was designed for TVs and DVD players, not computers... it was adopted in GPUs since it's the trend... downside of HDMI is that for every port created, a royalty will need to be paid (US$0.04/port, or US$10k/yr for high volume production)...
DisplayPort, on the other hand, is free, and thus was quickly adopted by computer hardware makers... and also, u can link up multiple monitors with DisplayPort (eg GPU -> Monitor A, Monitor A -> Monitor B, Monitor B -> Monitor C... instead of GPU -> Monitor A, GPU -> Monitor B, GPU -> Monitor C)
basically it's compatible with HDMI, but will require converters as well when converting to DVI and VGA...
the reason with the port varieties is that usually, when u can afford better hardware, u ve newer hardware as well... imagine u ve a GTX 560/HD6970, but using a 15" 1024x768 VGA monitor, that doesn't sound logical at all right? u'll be using a 23" Full HD monitor with DP/HDMI instead...
the lower end cards ve more varieties so as to accommodate those upgrading from older hardware... 17"/19" 1280x1024 VGA monitors are still pretty prevalent in business, and they dun need state of the art GPU...
