Dear forumers,

In the midst of hunting my very first HoneyComb-based (Android 3.0) tablets for true tablet experience, I would like to share some basic info on the hardware offerings...(in order to run HoneyComb OS.)

Screenshot of Honeycomb (Android 3.0)
user posted image

Why you should only buy an Android 3.0 tablet?

What Differentiates the Many Android 3.0 Honeycomb Tablets?

Some of these items may not run on HoneyComb yet, for example "Toshiba Folio AS100". Some even not launched yet. blush.gif

Some readings suggested that Honeycomb runs on Cortex-A9 architecture but not sure if A8 can run it.

Added on April 5, 2011, 5:43 pmbtw, Snapdragon is only the name of the platform, which consists of the Scorpion CPU core and Adreno GPU core...

also, Snapdragon has "similar features as Cortex-A8", and is based on ARM v7...

Flyer uses Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 overclocked at 1.5GHz... and it will receive Honeycomb, probably when HTC releases the new 10" tablets...
*
Updated... Thanks a lot Astria!

Does it mean that Snapdragon not suitable to run Honeycomb due to its A8 architecture?

Hmm.. Well apparently, Toshiba Folio AS100 can support Honeycomb with its tegra 2..

but rumours say that it probably wont be getting honeycomb due to some hardware issues.. still no idea what would it be.. RAM size??

doubt so... dun think HTC will make empty promises...

besides, looking at the roadmap of Qualcomm, it's all Snapdragon...

Added on April 5, 2011, 6:37 pmregarding Folio (from Wikipedia):

Tegra2, 8GB ROM, 512 MB RAM, 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth, 3G, SD and MMC card readers, 3 megapixel camera, FM tuner

similar spec as Iconia A100... more than sufficient for Honeycomb...
*
Regarding Tegra2, there is a mystery tablet launching soon... and maybe that is why Folio AS100 will not be getting Honeycomb upgrade.
Toshiba Mystery Tablet...

TS, IIRC, ViewSonic has a tablet called G-Tablet which carries Tegra 2 as well!
Just the right time... updated already, thanks!

haha.. I mentioned that in my previous post..

I just hope some how Toshiba or Viewsonic update their 2 potential budget tegra 2 tablet.. It is such a waste to see them running on froyo..

Just hoping the coming Toshiba AS200 tablet.. comes with pretty similar hardware with the AS100 and XDA folks would do the job in porting up honeycomb!

I have the same thoughts as you, getting cheaper branded tablets could help me not to over-spent.

I started to fall for tablets during recent Korea trip. Most people were on Galaxy tab in the train and airports... I look kinda out of trend without any tablet to read books while on the way... tongue.gif

hmm.. pretty cheap for the viewsonic eh.. last time I searches.. promotion price was USD299 now.. i think around USD349. But not sure. haha..

Its just pain to see tegra 2 not being fully utilized..

There must be a way to make those run on honeycomb. I cant stand it when I ran Gingerbread on my old lappy. So smooth but no touch screen of course.

Dun be surprised if AMD supports their users all the way (drivers update) due to strong competition from Atom Z670 and Tegra 2 in tablets market in near future.
AMD

It is a bit sad to see why a powerful SOC like Tegra 2 lack of support within same model. I'm sure unsupported user will move to Atom or AMD with the bad experience from Nvidia. hmm.gif

btw, Ray, take note Galaxy Tab dun use Tegra, at least not confirmed yet... most ppl are speculating Samsung's own CPU, the Exynos 4210 (aka Orion), which is less bulky than Tegra...
I got from here...(the link below is so fast outdated)?
Galaxy Tab 10.1

that's the old 10.9mm thick pre-iPad2 Galaxy Tab, not the 8.6mm post-iPad2 one showcased in CTIA back in late March...

look at the back panel...

and since Samsung trimmed it down, it's highly likely that it will use Exynos instead of Tegra...
Thanks Astria,... updated already. biggrin.gif

Another good read... (iOS 4.3 supporting flash now?)
Ipad 2 vs. Galaxy Tab 10.1

I agree. By just looking at the main menu (kinda basic looking), not sure if BB PB will be hot item here @ Msia. hmm.gif
