3gs baseband 05.16.02 cant used Untethered?

Baseband has nothing to do with Jailbreaking, only relevant in unlocking.

Latest redsn0w can jailbreak the 3Gs so as far as jailbreaking goes, it should be fine.

how to connect to internet and cyda to unlock my phone?

Reboot your phone. If this doesn't work, reset network settings. If this fails, try with your 3G connection for Cydia.

Why do you need an Unlock? If you have upgraded via Redsn0w, you would have upgraded using Stock Firmware which would have upgraded your baseband, which would mean that you won't be able to unlock your phone .....

How did you jailbreak your phone? Via Redsn0w for Firmware 4.3.2?

If you jailbreak via that method, you're screwed. The baseband have been upgraded and you won't be able to unlock.

Did mine last night, the jailbreak took less than 10 minutes. I was using Redsn0w 0.96rc14.

I cannot download from iTunes the firmware as well. Getting the same error as someone who posted earlier (connection error etc.). Must be that the Apple Server is swamped. So I went to iClarified.com and look into the Guide to JB the iPhone 4 and they have a direct link to download the 4.3.2 ipsw file (666 MB). Managed to download it in 3 minutes (I have a Fibre Optic, was getting 5MB/s download rate which was great).

Restore the iPhone followinf the iClarified Guide. Ran redsn0w (which took really less than a couple of minutes).

The backup restore was the one that took at least 90 minutes since I have so many apps. So watched House and Chuck while the iPhone was restoring the backup.

All apps were in their proper folders which is great coz I don't have to spend another hour trying to put them in their folders like before.

Pkgbackup didn't work for me ... bloody hell. Had to re-download and reinstall all my Cydia apps. Luckily not an issue. Got my BiteSMS back etc etc so I'm good to go.

Next download is the Greenpois0n animated boot logo heh heh heh.

that's why i'm wondering if anyone here upgraded to iOS 4.3.2 and doesn't experience the laggyness anymore? hmm.gif
*
I didn't experience any lagginess in 4.3.1 so I can't really give feedback on 4.3.2

Wanted to downgrade to 4.2.1 but then the Telecom Companies here launched a price war for a Data Sim (25 bucks for 400MB data, no restrictions no limited validity period and 4 cents for every MB after the initial 400MB is finished) so I'm sticking with 4.3.2 iOS so that I can use the iPhone 4 personal Hotspot with my iPad 2 .... sweet!

For factory unlocked iPhone, go for redsn0w. For locked set, you have no choice but to use pwnagetool or sn0wbreeze.

Yes, if you ever in the future want to downgrade to a version that can be jailbroken, then save your SHSH. I also have 4.2.1 saved in Cydia, but not 4.3 eventhough I was jailbroken at 4.3.1/4.3.2

I've saved my 4.3.1 and 4.3.2 locally using TU and I recommend you do the same.

"I've saved my 4.3.1 and 4.3.2 locally using TU and I recommend you do the same." what you mean?
what software i can use?
i'm using mac.
i dont think i need a downgrade right?

Download TinyUmbrella (for Mac or Windows) http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/

TinyUmbrella (TU for short) is a nifty little program, it can do many things but one of the main uses is to save your SHSHs. Usually, it is connected to Cydia as well so that it can recover SHSH that has been saved in Cydia but with the current problems with Cydia, you will need to save the SHSH locally. It's a small file but this file is extremely important.

Say that Apple comes out with iOS 4.4 and you/your friend/your girlfriend accidently upgraded to 4.4 and there is no jailbreak out for 4.4, then you can use TU in conjunction with the SHSH that you have saved locally to downgrade to 4.3.2 and then jailbreak that with redsn0w. Without the 4.3.2 SHSH, you will not be able to downgrade to 4.3.2 once the 4.4 is out. See why saving SHSH is important?

There are many instances where you will need a downgrade such as when Apple comes out with a higher firmware version and your iPhone dies or something went wrong with the phone. The only way to bring the phone back is to restore it to the latest iOS firmware (which, let's say for arguments sake is not jailbreakable at the moment), what do you do? You will need to downgrade and you will need to have the SHSH ready.

It doesn't hurt to save the SHSH, I save them all the time (even for my Ipad 2 even though there is no jailbreak for the iPad 2 at the moment coz you never know what firmware version the dev-team will be able to jailbreak in the future)

- this means if suddenly my phone kaput i need to restore to older fw (so i can jb) that time i can use the older version's shsh, right?
- i've installed TU. now i plug in my i4 and go to ADVANCED tab and click "Save SHSH"? do i need to untick or tick anything or ammend anything?
*
Yes

Yes

Just make sure you go to Advance Tab and UNCHECK the box that clearly says: "Request SHSH From Cydia"

then click 'Apply Changes'

then select your device then click 'Save SHSH'

The next time you open TU, it will automatically find the saved SHSHs

You're good to go. If TU has reported that you have those SHSHs, then you need not worry anymore.

got a noob question, from the TU link is 4.3.2, is it ok to saving my 4.2.1 SHSH?
cos now im jailbreak with 4.2.1, not planing to JB to 4.3.1 at the moment
*
If you did not save the 4.2.1 SHSH when Apple was signing it, there is no way for you to save it now. Just use TU to save the 4.3.2 SHSH (your iPhone does not need to be on 4.3.2 to be able to save that version of the SHSH).

You will need to have 4.3.2 SHSH in the case when Apple upgrades the iOS to a higher version. It's basically a safety net because if anything happens to your iPhone, you know you can always restore it to the jailbreakable 4.3.2

1. behind my name got some funny symbol !!
2. the SHSH save file show: iphone4 4.3.1(8G4) and iphone4 4.3.2(8H7), isnt that should show 4.2.1??

As I mentioned previously, you can only saved SHSHs that Apple are currently signing. At this moment, Apple is only signing 4.3.2/4.3.1 (which won't be for long) and EVENTHOUGH your iPhone is on 4.2.1, since Apple no longer signs those SHSH, then you will not be able to save the SHSH for 4.2.1

As long as you have saved at least ONE SHSHs of a firmware that is Jailbreakable, then you are fine. It just means that the option of downgrading to anything lower than 4.3.1 is not available to you.

should i update to 4.3.1 and JB it again?  unsure.gif

It depends. Do you want to upgrade? Are there any features in 4.3.1/4.3.2 that you want to have on your iPhone? I have an iPhone 4 and I really like the iTunes Library Sharing and Personal Hotspot Feature so that's one of the reason I upgraded. If you have no need for those features and your iPhone is okay at 4.2.1, I see no need to upgrade.

I'd go for 4.3.2 though if I were you. Just skip 4.3.1 entirely and go straight for 4.3.2. If you have a locked set though, just be extra careful and you will need to wait for Pwanagetool or used Sn0wbreeze so that you don't upgrade the baseband.

azraeil,

That mean if my i4 4.2.1, shsh saved is 4.3.2, does it mean i cant restore to back to 4.2.1? my firmware now is 4.2.1.. need to restore coz been trying jb but no result
*
You will not be able to restore to 4.2.1 if you only have 4.3.2 SHSH. You will get a 3194 error if you are using a Windows machine or the ineligible build error if you are using a Mac. If you restore your ip4 now, it will only work with 4.3.2 firmware.

This is one of the reason for saving the SHSH. It gives you the flexibility to restore to the version you want. Without it, your options are limited.

so in future if something went wrong with my iphone, i unable to downgrade to 4.2.1, right? only able to downgrade to 4.3.1?

actually i dont need those features in 4.3.1 and 4.3.2, but i got another question, how to update 4.3.2 and skip 4.3.1? sorry for the noob question sweat.gif
my iphone is local maxis set

You are correct. If you are currently on 4.2.1 and you do not have the 4.2.1 SHSH blobs saved in TU or Cydia, then if anything happens to your iPhone, you will not be able to restore it to 4.2.1. You can only restore it to the current firmware that Apple has released or to the firmware that you have SHSHs blobs saved (like the 4.3.2)

Yes, you can skip 4.3.1. You can just download the 4.3.2 IPSW and follow the redsn0w tutorial in iClarified for the iPhone 4. You do not need to worry about an unlock (means that you can allow for the baseband to be upgrade) as you have a factory unlocked iPhone 4.

You jailbreak via Redsn0w if you are using a factory unlocked set and you are not worried about your baseband getting upgraded. You use Pwnagetool or sn0wbreeze to create a custom firmware which will allow you to keep your baseband and keep your ultrasn0w or blacksn0w unlock.

I'm not familiar with sn0wbreeze because it's not officially from the dev team but I hear it's the same concept as pwnagetool that has been ported to Windows.

For those requiring an unlock, stay away from redsn0w and wait for pwnagetool to be released. If you are familiar with sn0wbreeze, then use that instead.

I don't see why people need to flame when we are all trying to help in this thread.

My 2 cents, USUALLY, people who don't know anything about JB will always update their firmware. The member mentioned that he was on 3.1.2 which is almost 1 year old firmware and he is still on 5.11.07 which is unlocked with blacksn0w. So it sounds like he has a 3GS which is probably jailbroken.

The easiest is to ask the guy if he has Cydia in his iPhone.

Just follow the guide in iClarified.com and choose your device for the tutorial. In the guide there should be a link to the IPSW file.

Good Luck.
