QUOTE(March05 @ Mar 9 2006, 10:40 PM) Wait, the best part is yet to come.....the comet Pojmanski is actually a scout ship sent by the aliens to test how many amateur astronomers will manage to detect them when the battle fleet crosses the Heliosheath. ...... This is a Critical Point. If the scout team determines that too many amateurs with their pesky telescopes actually saw them (in the guise of the comet), they will most likely call off the invasion as they will not have the advantage of the element of surprise......... So Mr.LKM, the fate of our beloved Earth lies in your hands. You must take a picture of the comet and post it here to prove to the aliens that they have been sighted! |

QUOTE(Mr.LKM @ Mar 11 2006, 12:34 PM) solar minimum = The period of time when sunspots and other activities are least frequent, although not usually absent...solar maximum = The period of time around the peak of the sunspot cycle when sunspots and other activities are most frequent courtesy of The Oxford Dictionary of Astronomy - Ian Ridpath..... apparently the Sun is now dormant until the next cycle in 2008.... QUOTE(Eithanius @ Mar 11 2006, 12:41 PM) solar minimum = The period of time when sunspots and other activities are least frequent, although not usually absent... Right, Eithanius, solar wind is always present whether at solar maximum or minimum. A solar storm is just when the wind speed/pressure is higher than normal. so you're right too, Mr.LKM, there is a report that there was a storm on the way and for the ppl near the north pole to expect some nice auroras. BTW i wonder whether the hurricane (i was right in the middle of it) which hit Subang Jaya was in any way related to a solar storm. Our meteorologists say it was caused by a high altitude cloud microburst......maybe driven high up by the solar wind? And have you guys been following two events: 1. The discovery of water geysers on Enceladus. Wonderful, i think we'll ask our alien fiends to stop by there for a picnic instead of making war plans. 2. The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter has braked successfully into orbit. We will start having a treat of high res pics of Mars at the end of the year! |

QUOTE(Mr.LKM @ Mar 13 2006, 02:43 PM) Something occurs just now, ....Please wait for a moment. Mr.LKM's blog is like a comet; very hard to detect, and always changing position..... But it's a wonderful sight when you manage to see it. |
