Yes it is possible. One of the best digital cameras to take astropics is the Nikon Coolpix 4500.

Just to the website of canon and check its specification and you'll know that. smile.gif

If you mean taking pics of the starry skies as astro pic, then your A700 should be able to. However, anything further than that and you will need a telescope.

15 seconds @ ISO 400 will be able to take decent starry skies provided you have less or no light pollution and the picture noise doesn't kill it.

from canon website.. i read that there is exposure time of 5mins.... izit oni applicable to d-slr oni...? or every camera can set that manually.. n y ppl saidthat a old type camera works better than a digital camera.. izit comparing with a old slr with latest slr or normal cam with latest camera..

Usually SLRs will have much longer shutter speed between 30 to 60 seconds and a bulb mode of a few minutes to unlimited with bulb mode.
However, there are some prosumer cams that support long exposure time till 60 seconds as well as a few minutes of bulb mode.

Film cameras produce pictures equivalent to about 30 to 40 megapixels of digital pictures. But it wouldn't make any difference if you only make 4R prints.
