Why are you even looking at a 28mm on the wide end lens when you're not using FF body? f2.8 constant aperture or not is irrelevant if you find that the 28mm frustrate the bejesus out of you for being not wide enough. Ultimately you will end up not using the lens.

Using a 28mm lens on a crop body gives a 42mm FF equiv. view. That's not wide at all. It's almost like using a 50mm on a FF body. Good for street shots, general walkabout and small groups of 2 or 3 persons but other than that you're screwed. Not to mention that the lens is quite big and I don't think it's light by any measure. If you are looking for it to replace or to use it like the Tammy 17-50mm then you're definitely going about it the wrong way.

chiam dar siang: well, sztan uses tamnron 17-50 F2.8, not sure which aperture he used to snap that photo, but his camera is calibrated (fine tuning) base on the tamron lens by a specialist.

what he say is right, 17 and 24 is totally diff distance. u cant compare it like that. even so sony came out with a 16-50F2.8, the price is fairly 3k+ like the kownon and nickson's versions...

I'm afraid not. A fish eye lens is a very specific prime lens. Usually fish eyes are 16mm or 8mm and they are designed to give you distortions. You might not want such distortions in your shots most of the time.

Assuming you have a 16mm FE. You will still be missing the 17mm to 28mm range which will almost be the same as not having the FE there. You cannot and should not substitute a wide angle lens for a FE. Especially not a wide angle to normal zoom range.

Why is a 17mm - 50mm lens useful? It's because on a crop body, it gives the FF equivalent of a 24mm to 70mm range. That range is useful for most situations. If you have a 16mm FE plus a 28-75mm on a crop body it would be like you having a 24mm Fish Eye lens plus a 42mm to 112mm zoom lens on FF.

A fish eye lens at 24mm cannot be used like a normal 24mm lens to get wide landscape shots. It will distort a lot more than a conventional 24mm lens. Thus you will still be missing the 24mm to 50mm range which I can say is a pretty darn important range to cover.

Look at my lens collection. I have a 20mm ultra wide angle but it's not a FE. On a FF body the 20mm does ultra wide but not FE. If I put the 20mm on my A100 (crop body) I get something similar to a 30mm range. Then from there my 50mm comes in to fill in the 30mm to about 70mm and my 85mm covers the rest. Thus with these 3 lenses I can effectively cover a 24-70mm range quite well but with 2 bodies. And I get f2.8 at least all through the range at less than half of the cost of a 24-70mm Zeiss lens. That's why I have the lenses that I have. Do you know why you have or want the lenses that you have or want?

newbie, lets put it this way, u have to snap a group photo, say wedding event, then there is a lot other "compact camera user" who wans the shot too. what happen if u are on 24mm would mean u are 2 step behind the compact shooter! or 28mm means 4 steps behind them, that's not effective rite? 18mm allows u to be infront of the compact shooter, and of coz, wider then 18, 10-17mm, will result to corner distortion too, u wont wan that too.

depend how u define the KM2875 for rm900, that lens could be useful for portraiture alone, but spending rm900 for a occasion potray... its your say

fisheye is a "creative" tool. its not for normal daily shoot, unless u are a freakish FE lover.

fren is looking for an MF portrait lens for NEX.. plz recommend, he has no adapter yet, so no brand preference. budget for lens + adapter is rm500 or below.

btw, mine problem is soft focus on my portrait..i am shooting on F2.2...sometime i get real sharp result..i using local AF all the time and didnt do any focus and reframe, body moving,etc...but i got 1 habit..i am on AF-S and i tend to focus many times...example, i like to keep on press half shutter to make it focus repeatedly...until i feel good then i snap..it is because of this?..i don have any sample of soft focus here as i del on the spot..i will check my photos on a550 as soon as i take then i press zoom 1 time to see whether the close/face portion nicely/sharply focused...but i only get sharp result like 2 out of 10...why ah?..

and, any good guides to learn/master MF all the way?..like how you guys handle samyang 35mm f1.4 etc...or those MF lens easier to use?..lol..if wan to do accurate MF, look thru smal viewfinder or liveview?...

hmm well for outdoor its ok.. buteven on my 16-105 i felt it's abit slow, so i have to resort to brighter lens and prime....
but the beercan is abit slow and hunting..or maybe its just the a550 

as a casual shooter, you dont even have to worry about shutter count on a dslR
