Everybody wants to feel a bit more special than the next guy.

At this rate, I think pro-modding rice racers will want a separate thread than drivers of stock cars soon rolleyes.gif

Looking into buying this car. Saw it the other day, and I followed it all the way along Bangsar and SPRINT. Damn sleeker than in pictures. Seeing it in action just melts my heart. I thought it i just Forte with 2 doors, but apparently, the cosmetic upgrade makes it look way much cooler.

What's our experience with it balibiz? Where did you test drive and buy from?

koup's pick up feels slower than the forte...

feels lack of power compare to forte during acceleration.....no idea why...eventhough the Forte is heavier by around 50kg more, and both have the same rim dimensions....

any idea of this?.

Bro, give us some short review on your car la instead of pure talk only. haha i actually quite interested with this car. RM114k for a Coupe/Koup seems reasonable.
Driving experience
FC
Maintenance
Modifications

etc etc. Anything related to the car which you need to highlight.

got this fm Carmag website...0-100 in 9.69 (M)

"The 2,0-litre, four-cylinder engine develops 115 kW at 6 200 r/min and 194 N.m of torque at 4 300 r/min, which are reasonable outputs. But despite the engine's free-revving nature it lacks the sort of punch that would have lent the car a sportier edge.

There was also a feeling among a couple of the testers that there is a big jump between 2nd and 3rd gears resulting in a flat spot that mildly blunts the acceleration.

Even so, the gearshift is slick and precise, and we managed to achieve a best 0 to 100 km/h time of 9,69 seconds - not too far from the manufacturer's 9,3-second claimed figure."

Nope. Koup should be slightly faster although the difference is pretty negligible in everyday driving.

It's probably the "feel" that gives the illusion of it being slower given its sporty exterior; but it is after all a two door version of the sedan rather than a purebred sports coupe.

The GEMA 2.0 Theta II is a naturally aspirated engine designed for C-segment sedans which (on paper) provides the most punch amongst its rivals. None of the other current C-segment sedans will provide the same kind of output as the newer GDI engines, let alone turbocharged units which many German carmakers are implementing.

Unless, the Koup gets the concept KOUP's turbocharged engine. Or Kia decides to use the Optima/Sportage 2.0T's engine to produce a more higher spec version of the Koup although it'll be less powerful than the KOUP. The Genesis coupe follows this route with an entry level 2.0 and a 3.8 V6.

The Koup is the only one in its segment - it's been a while since other carmakers released affordable two door coupes eg Civic Si and Lancer coupe/Putra. You buy the Koup for the feel good factor, but probably will lose pretty much every traffic light drag to riced-up sedans or hatchbacks. It's a good move by Naza to only bring in the Koup now instead of launching it together with the Forte 2 years ago - 6 speed tranny is more attractive not to mention the LED rear lamps.

The car does need a harder absorber and springs.. Try take the car around 180kmh..
Then only I'll know what I'm talking about. Specially on Malaysian roads....

Shin2210 - for harder abs u can look for tein. for lowering springs i ask ady but they yet to reply. more options in SG tho and best you just drive down and get it.

if above 180kmh the car needs more tht stiffer abs lor .. it needs the complete upgrades and aerodynamics. the list goes on and on.

but for daily, the car ady enuf gadgets! haha

Gratz on your purchase balibiz, would like to check with you on the FC though, on average how much are u squeezing out of it?

Been running around to get a test drive for koup, unfortunately been told that whole M'sia is out of demo cars...so deliberating on my purchase based on internet reviews :/

A showroom officer actually promise me to let me have a test drive before I buy it.

And besides after almost 1 yr of owning it, any major problems ?

the real major problem will be the stares and the unwanted attention the car gives...LOL!

am sure you have seen afew koup around town?

oh and the limited mods available here in KL...but small matter as JB/Spore have plenty.

this is my car after 1year...judge yrself (all i did was tint the car, nefd bkit) rclxms.gif

10.5sec for the century mark
215kmh top speed archived in bone stock engine

NVH since its a frameless door aka coupe design, it will be at par with other coupe cars. Compare koup with a sedan of T&H i would say its not as good as sedan...obviously.

compare with forte sedan....koup is wayyyyyy better than its sedan brothers!

the most noise would be coming from the kumho tyres...now thts a noisy tyre but value for money$... vmad.gif

For those who have been using either one of the Forte's, how is performance in terms of reliability, and FC. Not really looking at speed or acceleration.

i had no problem with my 1 and a half year 2.0 LE forte. Maintenence is cheaper than civic actually. No probs with SC so far. FC is very good indeed. 65-70 for full tank which can go to 500km

guys need ur commends n feedback from current owners of 2.0sx forte koup

am considering 308 turbo, polo tsi, forte 2.0 / koup 2.0

not much info from page 1 & had viewed through online reviews.

wish tai kor n che's willing to share their driving exp with their sexy forte koup

my concerns,
- FC
- handling
- back passenger seat space enough for a 170cm adult?
- air cond power ?
- car reliability, any breakdowns so far?
- bumpy ride?

had to ask although those YouTube reviews. did cover

but I prefer real owners feedback on the car

cloner...err my answer will be asf:-

considering 308 turbo, polo tsi, forte 2.0 / koup 2.0: no comment cos i am biase!hehe

my concerns,
- FC 10.3L/100km avg with 100% city driving
- handling KL-JB-KL 160kmh in wet - not a problem
- back passenger seat space enough for a 170cm adult? yes 2 adult in comfort - go to Redcube to check for yrself
- air cond power ? sejukkkk giler
- car reliability, any breakdowns so far? none 1year old
- bumpy ride? nope! again go to redcube for test drive

Had my koup for < 1 month, so these are primary observations.

- FC
- Car still in breaking-in, first re-fueling is RM0.208 / km. Mostly stop-and-go traffic.

- handling
- Nice! Little body roll (compare to altis)

- back passenger seat space enough for a 170cm adult?
- mb need to sit lower a bit, but is not a problem to seat 5 comfortably. Leg space is reasonable, not a lot.

- air cond power ?
- ok gua...

- car reliability, any breakdowns so far?
- can't ans you.

- bumpy ride?
- yes, quite bumpy, the suspension is firm. Compare to saga / myvi la (fail).

you have the same dilemma like what I had last year. but for me, it's more between peugeot 308 turbo and koup. polo tsi is nice and power, but it's too small and i feel imho it's an el cheapo car, if there's no vw logo on it.

my personal opinion.. (sorry as I dont follow your criteria):

- koup is more stylish and more rare. there are lots of peugeot 308 user on the road..
- peugeot more power than koup at low rpm due to it's turbo power.however at mid rpm to high rpm, koup is equal if not better than the 308 turbo.
- in terms of handling, koup is 5 times better than peugeot. koup is more aggressive and not bad in performance too. my car everything is still at stock condition, and I got 9.47 seconds from 0 to 100. also it can reach 200 easily. I even recorded one video where I reached almost 210km/h.
- peugeot has awesome technical features which is not surprising as it's a continental car.. but I prefer one thing with koup that peugeot dont have. The 99% keyless system, starting from when you opening the door, start and stop your engine and till you leave your car.. (the 1% is because you still need a key with you!). it's really convenient.
- i did lots of research, and with 308 you need to use ron97, or else there will be system depoluttion faulty error and it only limits your car to some speed only.. (if i'm not mistaken 60km/h).
- i dunno why, but most of the peugeot I find on the road moves like turtle.. maybe because most of them are driven by girls or uncle. I dunno..
- peugeot is more all rounder car. suits your need whenever you need it. driving fast alone, bringing your family for a ride ant etc.. however koup is more like sport car where you dont really carry passengers at the back.
- however koup rear side is still very spacious, compare to most of 2 doors car out there.
- but I still recommend you to buy peugeot if you always carry more than 1 passenger.

trust me, the feeling is different compare to 1.6 forte. I drove forte 1.6 for a year, before I bought koup and I can still the difference even until now (yes, i still have my 1.6 forte)
the steering / handling is awesome in koup although at first i didnt really like the bumpy suspension..

guys. what color available currently?. is there any variant in dashboard/interior?. i see sporty interior with red/black compilation which is not to my liking. is there any normal black/grey dashboard?

i'm leaning to get this car instead of elantra which i hear a lot of negative review especially in handling. wait 1 year for that car n then not as i expected... so i'm planning to get forte koup for replacement.

btw, how this car compare to altis?

I had test drive elantra.. the SA allow me to rev till my limits.. power so so.. handling during cornering if at steady speed with ESP on its ok.. at slightly higher speed say 90/kmh at curvy corners the car went bananas for a while then I think the ESP kicks in n stabilise it again.. fuuuhhhh

How, you all like this car ah?

I used to own a Kia Spectra, and almost got into an accident because the break were weak. I hated driving the Kia, but had no choice.

But I see that they have come a long way now.

I love the looks of the Kia Koup. Although I have no plans to buy a new car so soon, I really wanna give this car a test drive soon.

Any complaints from you current owners?

Think you need to go find third party sellers (not naza kia, they don't offer test drive last time, damn lansi). I buy from third party, rebate RM2k, 2 years ( 30 months) free maintenance for 2011 stock. Don't bother about 2012 stock, they will only probably finish selling the 2011 stock by 2020. No one wants to buy this car lol. I'm not from KV so can't help you locate dealers =)
Btw, my observations is from last time when i buy.. early this year.

Body colour white, black, red, get 2-tone fugly interior. Body colour blue, orange, get 1-tone "normal" interior. Go get a sales brochure. (IIRC)
I test drove an altis 1.8G and koup before making decision to buy a Koup, so I can comment you on this.

1) Handling: Altis suspension is quite firm ( ahpek car category, but suspension is less firm than koup) , lots of body roll (probably firm suspension to compensate for body roll) .
Koup suspension is lagi firm, kinda uncomfortable if you're fetching your mum when you go over anything on the road. ( ear uncomfortable, not butt)

2) Interior: Altis steering feels like a toy. the wood part don't join with plastic part properly. Dashboard feels kinda empty, stock audio is about as good as Myvi. Comes with 2 airbags. Inside "feels" somewhat more cramped compare to Koup. Personal feeling only, don't shoot me an excel sheet explaining the interior space.
Koup interior feels more welcoming. A steering that actually feels better, audio is excellent, you can save a lot, no need to install amp + woofer + change HU. ( non-DVD version la, heard new stock forte comes with DVD, but personally i hate touch screen players, too glaring at nite, and ugly interface when play audio ) Rear leg space is surprisingly adequate ( not limo adequate, but enough for an average 170cm guy to sit comfortably with room to spare ). Comes with 6 airbags, don't know Altis or Koup airbag more comfortable, never tested any yet.

3) Transmission... I prefer conventional auto compare to CVT. Altis have CVT, Koup have torque converter auto. With CVT you can't feel the "rush".

4) Engine: I heard Altis is extremely frugal, I know Koup drink fuel like no tomorrow. For Koup, Town driving FC is terrible, but on the highway, you can get 6-8L / 100km, which is like <RM0.15 / km? Power wise... think don't need to say.

6) Chick factor: Some chicks prefer Altis, chicks not worth marrying likes Koup. So if one night stand is your thing, then buy a Koup. Or a Scirocco, if you can afford.
Seriously though, chicks around me likes my Koup, but can't imagine they need to pull the seat back to put the babies we'll be producing onto the rear seat. Oh well..

Bottom line: I can probably summarize Koup vs Altis in this way: If you're looking for a (probably) reliable car to travel from A to B, RM50 fuel to get you a million miles, get an Altis. Else, get a Koup. You'll feel the urge to burn extra fuel in it. I'm serious.

... and you'll be burning a lot of fuel for the FC you'll be getting =D

This car was on my list of cars to consider for by year end. But, I test drove it at the KIA test drive centre in Bangsar yesterday and I was disappointed. Perhaps my opinions below can help give some insight to potential buyers.

I'm 180cm tall and my hair was touching the roof, felt extremely claustrophobic. Interior is acceptable, looks and feels pretty good for its price. Although materials used are plastics, they don't feel as cheap as say, the interior of a Fiesta?

The biggest let down for me has to be the engine, it is too noisy, and underpowered. I currently drive a 1995 Honda Civic 1600cc, non VTEC. What was going through my head was "how can this be a 2.0 engine?". It is because the torque is simply not there at all when I floor it, not to mention there was also a very noticeable lag when I floor the pedal. All noise and no pull. I do not mean to insult but the old generation 1.8 Altis had more torque. Perhaps it has a better mid range torque but the test drive route didn't give me a chance to go above 60km/h.

The ride is rather harsh but that is because it is a sport coupe after all. As for the handling and cornering, no chance to test it out for higher speed cornering due to the test drive route.

My conclusion for this car after one test drive is that it looks great, it really does, but it doesn't feel great and it unfortunately doesn't drive great too. I do plan to go for another test drive at another KIA showroom before I strike this off my list.

Hope I do not offend any owners here as these are my honest views!

Basically, i understand your feeling until i really driven the car for sometime.., i cant comment much about the noisy part due it is very personal or maybe it is because the different exhaust system compare to forte. Regarding the lag that you notice probably is because the gearbox is not in normal condition, probably is too hot. I guess most of the cars when the ATF is too hot there would be a lag whenever you floor it, pls don compare with those VW which is RM 160K and above.. hehe,

From the torgue you mention, i believe the car had to be maintain at least 4300 rpm to enjoy the full torgue. Since you got no chance to go above 60km/h, i believe you was just sunday driving the car thats why you cant even feel the handling and cornering.

Go to the Kia Red cube to test drive which beside along the federal highway, there shud be more route for you. Good Luck.

Hmm strange, my complaint about the car is the engine / exhaust is too quiet for a coupe... =/
I even think about modifying the exhaust for some time, but in the end decide not to ruin the car..

Underpowered? Compare to Altis? =/ so weird. I tested both cars before buy, and i found the exact opposite.. altis will downshift to >3500 rpm and the engine strains terribly when i slightly press the pedal :S

And how can you conclude a car is underpowered when you can only go to 60kph? The 1st gear alone takes you to 50kph iinm.... done in a test car last time, i'll never do that to my own car tongue.gif

That is the problem with the test drive route really. But when I say underpowered, I do emphasize more on the torque during lower speeds. Perhaps it's the gear ratios' problem so it could have a better pull at higher speeds(higher gears)?

Anyhow, those were just my views after one test drive, so it may be rather unfair. I need to test this car up to speeds of 100+ km/h before concluding anything =/

From what I know, you get the two tone red interior only if you choose the white, black or red car.

bro kelvinftg - no prob bro..u are entitled to your opinion and i advise you to take your time(if possible) before coming to your purchase new car!

no car is perfect for everyone - and the koup is no exception. some love it, some hate the brand, some if-if, some wait&see...haha

btw, a brief info abt me: i traded in my civic fd for this koup 2.0 and i am not missing the 2 back doors!hahaha

Finaly went to test drive forte 2.0 & koup

damn it's a nice looking car.. (koup)

power wise really dint feel much of it. maybe due to the big diff of lower rpm tourge. cuz just test polo tsi a day before. the diff of stand still - floor gas pedal small car gives the Wow factor

forte 2.0 really comfort to drive, all aspect is just nice. Would be a sure buy if it wasn't for the evil step
brother Koup smile.gif

koup, few major things I felt are the stiff suspensions.. u can really feel what's going through the road surface.

& the passenger having a hard time getting out. I banged my head n butt while testing it

I'm so confuse n frustrated now... forte or koup ... arghhhhh

Both car has its own advantages. Maybe these will help.Consider the car base on these: rclxub.gif
1) 2 doors /4doors. Which one will be more suitable for u?
2) Price, budget, monthly installment.
Hopefully my suggestion will help.

yeah. now all fixed. sure. can you please invite me? or how?
you have the same dilemma like what I had last year. but for me, it's more between peugeot 308 turbo and koup. polo tsi is nice and power, but it's too small and i feel imho it's an el cheapo car, if there's no vw logo on it.

my personal opinion..

*
yo bro irenic, so far your koup has any problems like brake switch issue? any faults. Also what is your colour. My wife love the Red. but is it a solid colour, afraid of the colour fade later. Can SG help in prolonging the colour.

after driving Koup, i also love it. ya she drives 90% alone all the time. so i think it is ok, wanna fetch ppl for lunch 4 person can squeeze comfortably.

You said handling is better than 1.6 SX or 2.0 SX, my wife claims it grips better and has better confidence in driving the koup compare to 2.0 SX.

i think of all the 3 times i test drove the 308, i was the one of the fastest driver on the road. haha tongue.gif
honestly, i didnt try for top speed, the max i went is just 180kmh. but on malaysia road or highway, it's not just about top speed. our road has lots of corners and curves, and koup can tackle those corners at faster speed than the 308 (i went for test drive repeatedly between 308 and koup, and that is what i felt).

yes it can use ron95, but lots of the users advice to 'wash' the engine by using ron97 after 2-3 cycle with ron95, to avoid the depollution system error.

What I was trying to say is that it can still go up to 200 kmh even with ron95. No such thing as the car limits the speed to 60kmh. smile.gif
N i havent met such error without filling intermittently ron 97. We only use ron97 during the first few tanks which was early last year. Unless if its hidden n need special tool to read that error...
My opinion is that the seating feels quite high so im quite hesitate to take corners fast. Honestly i prefer my neo seating.but they arent comparable at all especially in term of power n nvh:lol:

for nvh, definitely peugeot wins... it's a continental car kot.. thumbup.gif
for acceleration, maybe from 0km/h yes peugeot is too powerful for neo.. but if you are at 140kmh, does it significantly outperform your neo?

hmm i cant comment any further about the ron95/97 issue with the 308.. because I dont own the car, but what I know is just through some research I did when the car was in my buy list last year smile.gif

The 308t is a beast compare to my auto n stock standard neo cps.press n itll just..go laugh.gif from 120 to 200++ kmh is relatively fast.neo semput already ar 150-170.

308t is d most powerful car I've ever driven to date so ymmv:)

Imho, a highway corner in neo@170-180kmh is comparable to 308t@200-210kmh in term of scaring myself. Though at such speed, the 308 felt like turtling while relatively stable for neo.@170kmh, thing started to wobble around for 308t but still better than neo la.

I still prefer to drive my neo when im driving alone biggrin.gif

Sorry for hijacking this thread but had to correct the misinformation (from my experience that is..)

Btw, the koup looks really nice. Much better than 4doors version.

QUOTE(kelvinftg @ Apr 12 2012, 09:39 AM)

Hope I do not offend any owners here as these are my honest views!

ya i agree with you, the test drive route is around mid valley and a little hill climb, at bangsar. For me overall i dont have much experience with 2 doors, but koup within the price range it is the best buy,

i just went to have a look at the crz, about the same price. 115 also, but the downside of CRZ is a cannot get into the back seat, totally cannot fit me, i am just normal 175cm, as for the koup, i could sit nicely and fit into the back seat.

for a quick lunch with 4 friends i think koup is very very friendly. As for the CRZ, the back seat is a waste of space. Dont know what i can do with it. Anyway CRZ looks also a little too funcky, too old to drive the car. I think the koup really is an all range age group, if you are looking for a 2 door coupe, this probably is the better buy, unless you wanna include satria neo, which i feel , it is also another not my taste kind of car.

Anyway here is a list of 2 door coupe

1) satria neo RM 70K
2) Kia forte koup RM 115K
3) honda CRZ RM 115k
4) Mazda RX 8 RM 236K
5) VW Sei lo kong (Scirroco ) RM 188K
6) Polo GTI 132K
6) VW eos RM 257K
7) BMW mini cooper RM 200k above
8)

so any more that i miss within the affordable range of 200K and below?

yo bro irenic, so far your koup has any problems like brake switch issue?

*
Hi, regarding the brake switch issue, curretnly none of our owners facing this issue yet, due maybe it is a CBU car.
2ndly, if you never ram the brake to start the car and take care properly shud be no problem.

yes, behidn ssqueezing ppl is comfortably, just one thing is just very hassle if more than 1 passenger.

of course the handling would be better due lower set up from forte suspension and the body type is coupe type.

Oh ya, forget to says that, if im not mistaken it is only the white is solid colours, other would be metallic even the Red you prefered. why am i so sure because i had problems with the solid also, but still getting the white ones. tongue.gif

yes, Peugeot RCZ and Audi TT also in the range. Even BMW Coupe.

But it is all depends how much you willing to fork out for a car.

Welcomez, but im pretty sure all is metallic paint except the white would Solid. Because i hate my car to be solid also, but no choice there was 1 choice of white that i want. Try to confirm with a SA. the red is Ferrari Red so is not the red that using in the myvi chili red. LoL

wooo the white is very nice. But i dont think white is solid, it is a 2K white which the SA brags about it.

Anyway i have one small concern for the koup. when we wanna sell in the future, i wonder how much will we loose.. sorry for asking,

but then of course i am getting one. just wanna prepare myself .

2k paint, haha, im really curious to go see the SA you mention.., the paper, the internet is obviously written there is a solid, and the white colour code name is also "Solid White". how it gonna be metallic and 2k.. LOL.

For our koup owners club, none of us thinking about sell in the future yet due the car is still very new, so nobody will expect loose how much for this. buying a korea brand is just depends on you mind or don mind, if you mind then can just forget it. anyway, even the luxury type cars like ferrari also going depreciate a lot. Malaysia only Toyota and Honda, honda and toyota. hehe

At 150km/hr a Koup 2.0 will certainly be quieter then a Vios 1.5. Both are totally from different category so comparing it will be like comparing an Apple with an Orange. Anyway, for comparing sake a Koup will certainly out perform a Vios from every angle, from power, stability, safety rating, size, styling, features....... icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

unless we work as a car reviewer than oni can access many cars (drive all different carmakers and speed at highway at 150kmh which is above speed limit) and make a comparison...am i rite jc999! haha

but i can safely say tht its at par with the other C-seg cars...but u need to get the low noise tyres cos the koup comes with the noisy tyre pattern!! kumho solus shakehead.gif

Bro han12345, noise is very subjective issue...suggest u go for a test drive to know for yrself...the roadroar is the main culprit ie tyres...

Fyi, my speeding in koup is at 200kmh which is very seldom but at those speeds your least worry will be noise la bro!

Mind u, dis is a frameless car so expect noise to protrude abit but no big issue la...unless u trying to find fault with a rm115k 2 doors coupe.. cool2.gif

Hi everyone,
I just bought a solid white Koup last week and had the rim change to 19"x8.5"35x235 -19"x9.5"x30x265. Lower with Ebach spring and is now in the spray shop fixing the body kits.
Do anyone knows where I can get the DRL & dual double exhaust?

Hello again guys, received my Koup few days ago.

Wanna ask, is it possible to change the KIA logo to the one with the Kia "K" logo? How much will it cost and will it fit properly?

Also had anyone modded your car's headlamp? What type you're using?
I'm thinking of changing to those that come with DRL.

i bought abt 60 each.

Guys, if anyone has stock rims and want to sell, please let me know. I'll match the trade in price if it's reasonable, so that I don't have to pay the tyre shop guy a small premium on top of what he buys it at from you tongue.gif
