well it really depends for me 4 gb is barely cukup if i dun open itunes and crazy tabs in mozilla, 8 gb leh, u will get more multitasking ability and chances of crashing will be lower than using a 4 gb one
speeding up ur 3d rendering also depends on what base of rendering u are doing, openGL type or 3D type. (most are open GL) soo using a geforce gt or gtx card will not really benefit u.. to really speed up u will nid to use a tesla or quadro card. mainly found in probooks in hp range if not mistaken.
cons is that faster rendering with open GL= lousy game fps in gaming times

sometimes i dun get it with people speeding up 3d max.. and rams..
itz not as if most rendering are based on ur rams but ur Gcards memory.
blah blah pple say gtx speed is faster but most do not know than quadro's are made for rendering and cadding their memory space built in are huge.
4 gb ram is sufficient to run the program while rendering takes place in the gc memory but if ram is cheap juz max the system out i guess..

juz bought and receive it yesterday, now using, no complains
i think they revise 1 more time as mine was all brushed black metal aluminum, only lid was sliver..
key board dun flex as much as the previous asus i had used
if u lucky u will get WD hdd as u will score 5.9
revised new comes with 1333 mhz not 1066mhz rams.
lid not soo tight
size is huge as big as a mbp 17 inch
sound is fantastic @trece4eve( comparing to 5750g) but with certain high pitch songs will be very ear pain if maxed out everything
best reformat.. as i gt hell not doing it.
1 min startup time with all heavy softwares loaded up
weight is nice, juz dun bring the brick charger along(put 1.5 iphone4 dimension and times the thickness by 4)
very cool palm rest, never feel.. fan can be noisier than the acer 5750 though
if u get the newer sn then go right ahead

thak goodness itz brushed metal, if all sliver then then not cool design jor
on stock settings, the speakers beat the 5750g what i meant. bass can tune for even lower output but if the db's are too low then got some not nice sound.
on stock higer db not much probs but with sonic master on the speakers emit some horrible high pitch that makes u shiver..
my hdd is WD-srry bout ur seagate. hey the ram changed to 1333 mhz wor..
awesome comp, not hot at all..but bloates are horrible.. uninstall the bloates then hav 2 uninstal atk driver n reinstall, as the keyboard shortcuts failed

i highly doubt it would'nt cool it down by >2'c all the air force through the small air vents below

i peel all stickers and protector but the big piece of rectangular plastic sheet i take it and mount it on my screen with sticky tape, no more dust probs..
keyboard vacume it at lowest speed soo the keys dun pop out, = nice cool system..

Summ of what to do after buying
those who are buying the sn with nex week new shipment, after purchace to do's
if u refuse to reformat is up to u. mine failed to run quickly after putting cs5 psh cad 07 earth06 3dmax and run movies pain in the neck.
-backup with 5 cd.. takes 2 hours 15 min
-reformat the comp, 25-40 min
-uninstall crappy bloats(virtual cam, life frame, splendit<optional>,live update<must!!>, smart logon, fancy start, trend micro<it sucks>,and or express gate<i didnt,it depends>, all obron games. do not reboot, continue
- install nividia new GC drivers, finis no reboot again. uninstall ATK drivers (100%must!) then reboot
-reinstall ATK drivers only through e-driver, reboot
-uninstall e-drivers
-create a windows restore point by going to start menu and type creat restore point.. then create
fin. grab a drink and enjoy ur new lappie, play games, surf internet..

i use battery care and mod it to start plug in with power4 ger entertainment, and batts with power batt saver.
oni when i do demanding stuff i manually switch to power4 high perform
they will auto help u switch soo when u plug out u dun nid mafan

Hi all SN users juz asking a few ques
1-do u guys use readyboost by inserting and leaving an sd card in the sd slot like forever?will it do any harm? i run reddyboost on mine and loading stuff is faster(-lag).
2-when u open any media player, does ur cd player run (make some sound)
3-hav any 1 used all 8 core and threads (100% core usage) on gaming no stress test, cuz is unreal. cuz i never seems to be able to achieve that to test full heat stress
4-the recent updates when u updated from windows caused a problem in shutting down. do u guys hav probs shutting down?

3 steps details are that 1) 40cm stand fan blow and 22 inch floor fan blow-40-41c, 2) floor fan blow-42c, 3) stand fan blow-44c 4)no fan-46c
conditions- 1)blowing same speed at a close proximity, no more than 15cm from vents and keyboard 15 min 2) under stress load of 5%-15% 3) room temp of 15c
temp recordings are that temps are >48c n <54c min under 15% load (can't record on games.. hard to play in that state)
temp are 40c sometimes 37c under idle mode blowing for 15 mins 2 fans
}3 cores running at 50% and 1 core running at 20% for 10 min recorded 71c max under room temp of 17c and no fans blowing no cooler pad
programs using= 5 mozilla tabs open, zipping a 12gb file, msn, skype, win live mail, and halfway editing doc on PShop cs5 32bit running simultaneously for 8 mins
4gb ram stock, 12gb redyboost (3x4gb) and disk page file of 8 gb

Core Temp 0.99.8 is used for data collection "running in room temp of 15c min to 19c max" not air cond, natural night air in sydney."

those who are asking about the temperature probs of sn, if u are going to play games on loads of 60% on a cooling pad most likely ur comp aint hot enuf to rot ur mob
note, i run COD MW2 on full graphics settings on display res 1366x768 with AA- 16x override, full shaders override, 4 pre rendered frames and no fram sync,
temps didnt run hot, juz slightly warm on palm rest, core usage was on >40%, temps were below 90c playing duration 4 hours, 17cm fan diameter jack up 8 cm.
running app pile up made my comp run at 88c by then u get laggy for full memory usage
unless u run 70% for 8 hours or more then u may have a heat prob (by rough estimation)

SN-No great heat problems noted in tests, unless the vents are clogged with dusts and breadcrumbs

5400 rpm users can only feel alitle ^speed doing soo.. during multitasking
the main point of the post is that benchmarking is pointless..let others rip their rigs all they wan, u can like NEVER reach 100% on normal usage or most games..
cannot say for crysis 2.. gonna get it to run. if 3 hours and temps are acceptable then wil pple stop saying sn heat probs..
but i must say returning to stock 4gb is horrible.. had to page file for everything as 4 the 64bit OS.

had shutdown probs last week.. it was the windows updates from 2 weeks be4.. the fix is issued.. but u hav to rollback old one and reinstall the new fix..
be4 updating, read what it does, it helps in solving crappy system failures
max temp i reach is only 98c with 1 cooler pad.. played games for 6 hours non stop..do u guys override the graphics settings in game? like force AA, buffers n ATT?
btway i saw the Australian SN version, blu ray drive, 540gt 2 gb.. ddr? 8 gb ram, 2630qm, FULL HD! screen... cost.. 4480 ringgit after new currency of 3.23

SN SV users, the new update launched for drivers may disable ur laptop's keyboard..
create a system restore be4 updating.
if updated and keyboard cannot use, use on screen keyboard..
mine failed after restart comp.

i cant really tell.. was doing assignment at it updated 20+ updates.. and then when restart it failed.. soo FML...
then haw 2 resort to in screen keys. USb not sure but the whole keyboard smash also no work 1..
i think itz some drive update from microsoft for usb host divices.. somethink like tat.. cuz none came from asus.
juz beware..updates recently buggy,shutdown failure and now keyboard...
