Wouldn't recommend it because of the lack of roms. But IIRC it has a few issues.

Ace has a better camera and HAS custom rom support from XDA
Liquid Metal has better build quality, a better proc(800mhz Q7230Desire Z processor), Nicer screen, higher reso, but ABSOLUTELY NO support from XDA. Also more value for money.

I don't think there are any yet since its quite new. But there will be. ALM doesn't even have its own section.

Ace is decent but can't really live up to a few of our expectations. Acer Liquid Metal for me. And to Clon, if your budget can be stretched a little, i suggest Acer Liquid Metal too. 512mb ram on Q7230, which is Desire Z's processor. Also has stock froyo. Has no custom rom support though. Only minimal support from other sources. And the camera is quite sub par. Screen is your usual 800x480. If the camera matters a lot to you, stick with the Ace. ALM has higher build quality too. And this recommendation is directed to both of you.

Haha. The ALM has a Aluminium back cover. Nicer feeling IMO compared to plastic.

SGS has a better GPU and screen while IS has a better processor and higher ram. Build quality wise IS wins too. But bootloader is currently locked.

Yes. Because they're both from the same gen, sharing the same GPU. Adreno 200. Since the proc in SGA is factory overclocked, nonetheless its still overclocked and i don't like that. Besides, the camera and build quality of the Desire is better. Anyways have a look at the Desire S review i posted a while ago.

Any specific requirements or so? And to the 1.5k budget, you can get an Incredible S at RM1550. A better deal than most of the current available phones. Or You can go for Captivate at RM14xx with a better GPU. Has inferior build quality, less ram. The camera on the IS is also better. And the Captivate's camera has no flash.

Impossible to find one. Maybe a WinMo one.

Wildfire is also supported by CM7. Acer Liquid Metal has no form of custom rom support all. Ace should have support sometime soon.

Desire HD if you need to flash and/or likes tweaking. Incredible S for the higher MAH battery.

LG Optimus 2x is good i guess. The RRP is RM1899. If you're a first timer, i assume you wouldn't go too far anyway. I suggest you go for a lower-mid end device and try out Android first. If you like it, you can sell it off then get the Incredible S or the Optimus 2x. If you don't, you can move on to iPhones or back to Symbian smartphones.

I see. If so, you would probably want the luxury of freely customizing everything. The Incredible S's bootloader is probably gonna be cracked very soon. HTC phones tend to have more user/fanbase compared to other phones. Try following a thread on XDA. You can also wait for HTC Sensation. The full preview can be viewed on engadget.

Added on April 14, 2011, 10:20 amAlso, try not to go with SE's phones. They have a laggier UI. If its not Stock Froyo or a good UI, don't buy it. No matter how godly the specs of the phones are, it'll still bottleneck the whole thing.

Galaxy S is okay if you apply some lag fixes and install a custom rom. Its much cheaper and you can sell it if you don't like it.

RM11xx for an AP set.

With a locked bootloader, you can't flash custom roms.

Incredible S can too IIRC.

Its a good phone. Also has Vanilla Gingerbread. It is worth buying for the better GPU and screen. Still, i would go for the Incredible S due to the better camera and build quality. Battery on the Nexus S is superb.

With HTC sync its easier. But since both are Android platforms, if you install Titanium backup you can restore the backup on another phone IIRC.

ALM has better specs(proc,resolution) while Ace has a better camera and support.
