QUOTE(lfcreds91 @ May 3 2011, 04:28 PM) Yup, true that. I admit that I did have my doubts about whether KD being able to handle the club after being out for such a long time. He's done a great job so far, he's not a super tactician but he instilled spirit and confidence into the players and that has done more than enough to push Liverpool back up. I'd be bullshit if the owners don't offer him a permanent role but from what I see, the owners are doing what they promised, KD will be caretaker until the end of the season no matter what the outcome. We shall see what happens during the summer. |

QUOTE(lfcreds91 @ May 3 2011, 04:28 PM) And our next opponent, Fulham, was also having a good second half of the season sitting in 5th above Totteham and Man-billionaire-city. There's no doubt that there are in good form at the moment and having to face them away from anfield is a very tricky one.. |

I'll say that its important to have somebody like Hyppia that can work here, but that'll be having two defense coaches for us.

We shall see what happens during the summer. true. i notice that too. KD is a good motivator. tactician, well, i think he's good at it based on his short stint this season but the main factor was the motivation he managed to give the players so that the players don't lose hope and will to win. yeah, the owner never did promise anything about permanent deal but i bet all Liverpool fans and players will definitely hope the owner offer KD a permanent contract. it will be a wise move. D-D-D-W-L-W-L-D-W-W. both lost was away. managed to draw against Man City and Chelsea. 1 away win and 3 home win. Fulham is a tricky opponent to face now. if carroll play, he will up against one of the best CB in EPL; Hangeland. as usual, Dembele, Murphy and Dempsey will be main provider. Dempsey and Dembele will pose a threat on goal. and don't forget about the in-form Simon Davies. |

Hyypia has assigned as an assistant to Mixu Paatelainen, the newly-appointed head coach of the Finnish national squad. He will also become an assistant manager of the German Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen. He's taking the first step to a managerial career, being appointed as an assistant straight away after retire is an honor, so I don't think he'll accept a coach position in the near future even for us.

Let's be fair to Kyrgiakos now. No one even bothered to praise him when he stepped in due to injury and the sale of Sami Hyypia. The 3 MOM performances out of 4 games from last season all forgotten? The Player of the Month award? Remember the goals against Blackpool and Blackburn earlier this season?
This from a player who hardly plays. Can we fault him for making a mistake or two? |

Kyriagkos has stepped in very well in my opinion. Together with the younger bloods he has excelled in a position none think he would; as a sweeper-last man role.
Kyriagkos in allows the young guns to go up forward, and he's definitely one of the more formidable last man if you have to go against him one to one before the goalkeeper. Sadly we all do have selective memories. |

saying soto cannot defend is somewhat cruel.. like earlier mentions.. he show some MotM perfomance in couple of games.. not an ideal 1st choice but a decent backup.

no need to blame to a player anymore...
let see if our striker cn scrore more goal the opponent spirit will down if our midfield can control the ball in middle the oppenent will hardly to breakthrough the defence line & the defender will rarely face pressure.. in end whole team can be blame.. no nid bash soto juz for wba games.. whole team play sux during tat team.. striker was shut down, midfield failed, winger no exist, failed to mark odemwinger.. no wonder we lost |

QUOTE(rushmode @ May 4 2011, 10:41 AM) saying soto cannot defend is somewhat cruel.. like earlier mentions.. he show some MotM perfomance in couple of games.. not an ideal 1st choice but a decent backup. Precisely. He was actually playing really well when he had an extended run in the side. He's 6'5" and at a time where we were susceptible in the air, he came in and won everything. He's not as adept on the ground but let's be fair lah, he is our 4th choice centreback behind the likes of Carra, Skrtel and Agger. If you ask me, he is pretty decent for a 4th choice defender. The following is a match report from last year's encounter with Bolton, when Rafa was still the boss. It does also shed some light on the impact the big Greek made. QUOTE He looks like a refugee from the short-lived BBC soap El Dorado, and his name is a Scrabbler's wet dream. But Sotirios Kyrgiakos is fast becoming a cult hero on Merseyside for a very different reason, as Liverpool produce a rather unlikely revival under the most testing of circumstances. The Anfield team have now strung together a six match unbeaten run that has placed them back in the heart of the Champions' League race, and the surprising inspiration has been their Greek centre half, who was bought not even from the bargain basement, but the bin in the corner of the basement flogging off the shop-soiled goods. Rafa Benitez was ridiculed for spending good money on a defender who couldn't even cut it in the Scottish leagues, and who, with his pony-tail and designer stubble, looked more likely to come to Liverpool in a Shirley Valentine-style story. Yet against Bolton he was the solid foundation on which a hard-working, if hardly inspired, victory was built. It was Kyrgiakos who stood tall against the bruising threat of Kevin Davies, who has tormented far more vaunted defenders than him. The Greek defender lost a tooth for his trouble, but given his appearance, you could forgiven for thinking he would welcome the chance to replace it with a nice new shiny gold one. What he has done - very quietly - is remove the weakness Liverpool have had exposed all season when defending set pieces. To put it simply, he stands up and heads the ball, even against someone as dominant as Davies. And that is what his team had desperately been missing earlier in the campaign. Look at all the matches Liverpool have lost this season - and there have been many - and a weakness at set pieces is invariably the cause. So to have a defender who enjoys heading the ball, who enjoys the physical challenge of the aerial duel is clearly an important factor in any revival. It is a fact acknowledged by Benitez, who believes that the Greek defender has brought a rugged honesty to his side. "It's not easy to stop Davies in the air, but he did well against him," the Reds boss opined. "Soto's very strong in the challenge, and that's something we needed. He's doing very well and shown everyone how much he wants to be in the team - those things are very positive and contagious. "His debut was at Bolton so I think he knew what it would be like. And he's lost a tooth today so he'll know even more about Davies now as well! But he brings us strength in the air and he brings us character, and that is important." It was another clean sheet for Liverpool, their third in the league in a row and fifth in their last six games, and it has at least calmed the almost daily hysteria surrounding their manager, even if the merest hint of some green shoots hardly answers the questions about his long term future. This wasn't an impressive performance, but it was an important victory because it allows them to go into next week's foreboding Merseyside derby still with the confidence of an unbeaten run. And at least their most obvious weakness has been addressed, with Liverpool looking much calmer and more assured at set pieces. Kyrgiakos has played his part in that, though his qualities in other areas will now be tested with a run in February when Liverpool play Everton, Arsenal and Manchester City. He nullified the threat of Davies, leaving Bolton to find attractive ways of breaking down the home side. They almost did that in the first half when Chung-Yong Lee went on a dazzling run past three defenders and home keeper Pepe Reina, only for Kyrgiakos to clear from the line. Liverpool capitalised on that fortune, first when Dirk Kuyt bundled in from close range after a great cross by Emilinao Insua and clever header back by Alberto Aquilani, then a wickedly deflected shot by Insua, that must go down as an own goal ironically off Kevin Davies. It wasn't great, but after the latest round of stories linking Benitez to Juventus, it was at least a good effort from the Liverpool players in putting all the speculation and doubt behind them. According to Reina, one of the senior figures at Anfield, while that is not always easy, it is exactly what the players must do, if they are to salvage anything from their season. "There is no point to talk about the manager's future. We just play football. Talking about his future is your job. In tough moments, we have to stick together and work as hard as ever," he said. Itís all about your pride. We knew that we have not been in the right situation. We had to think about this, the fact we were not doing as well as we could. But hopefully we will start getting better." With Tom Hicks making a surprise visit to the club on Saturday, Benitez's future could well be on the agenda for a little longer, because no owners can tolerate for long a situation where a key employee so blatantly links himself with another job. But Liverpool will sit tight for the moment, because there is no gain in changing the situation right now, and the Anfield board are experienced enough to know that things could change dramatically with almost half a campaign still to run. What is important though, is the derby next week, because defeat to Everton is unthinkable under the current circumstances, as goalscorer Dirk Kuyt pointed out. "The derby is very important to us now but so are the points- we can't afford to lose any more," he said. "In the first half of the season things didn't go as we wanted, but that is behind us now and we are looking forward at our main target of finishing in the top four. "Every point is vital from now and this was a good win for us. It will prepare us well for the derby." |

Juve won't pay asking price for Aquilani
May 4, 2011 By ESPNsoccernet staff Alberto Aquilani's permanent move to Juventus could be in doubt after the Italian club's general manager, Giuseppe Marotta, said they would not pay Liverpool's asking price of £16 million. Italy international Aquilani joined Liverpool from Roma for £17 million in the summer of 2009 but failed to make an impact at Anfield and was shipped out to Juventus on loan. The 26-year-old has been a success in Turin and both player and club are eager to convert the season-long loan into a permanent deal. However, Marotta said the club would not be prepared to pay the £16 million fee agreed with Liverpool when the loan move was put in place. "There is a buy-out clause that has to be activated by May 15," Marotta told Sky Sport Italia. "We'll try to reach an agreement before the deadline. I can certainly say we will not sign Aquilani for the sum set by Liverpool." Last month, Aquilani told Gazzetta dello Sport. "I would like to stay in Turin for a long time and win a lot." |
