Thanks for the feeback.

My nephew is graduating from UiTM this year with a BArch and with current CGPA of 3.55. I encourage him to carry on the M.Arch (after the compulsory 6mth working time) at UTM in order to get a different flavor of architectural training and exposure, but he seems convinced that UiTM M.Arch program is more practical and more construction orientated.

Have you taught any UiTM B.Arch graduates in UTM M.Arch program? What are your frank views on those graduates?

What's the employability rate (locally employed) of UTM M.Arch graduates? Do big local architectural firms actively recruit UTM graduates?
*
i will address the 1st part in PM.

on the 2nd part, 100% of our graduates managed to find a job within 6 months of graduating (they almost always go traveling first, which we encourage anyways). about 40% gets a job in china and singapore. 10% further studies, the rest local practice, mostly in KL.

yes, we have major firms always eyeing for our graduates like GDP, hijjaz and all that. but we also have high number of those getting part 3 at very young age (26-30 years old) and setup their own firms. which to me is a bigger deal than working for some big firms.

thanks for the great feedback.

does UTM Arch have any plans to do any road shows in the near future?
*
we have an Archiweek event 2-3 march. there's exhibitions, activities, food and stuff in skudai. open to tall.

https://www.facebook.com/events/777619609048872/

not exactly a roadshow, but it gives direct exposure to what we do and stuff.

Hi... I am STPM 2015 graduate. I hope to get architecture course in IPTA, but as I refer the list for LAM, I found tat a lot of expiry date is around the corner for many of the university.  Is there any IPTA that have LAM part I and II qualifications if for 2016 September intake? Or any suggestion for university?
*
LAM accreditation expires automatically after 5 years, in which each school would need to renew it. during the renewal process, LAM will appoint an accreditation panel (CAAEM visiting panel) to evaluate the school based on its most current students' performance. if successful, the school will gain accreditation for the next 5 years. if there are things to improve/fix, they will be given conditional accreditation of 2 or 3 years. if they failed totally, then the school will no longer accredited by LAM and loses all its privileges.

so what does it mean for u?

well, just imagine u have to renew ur driver's license every year. but instead of just paying a fee, u have to sit for the driving test to ensure ur skills are tip top. so dont worry too much about the expiry date. so far, all accredited schools are top notch that none have ever lost their accredited status!

Thanks for the reply ^^
I see... so as long as is accredited university, then need not to worry about the date for LAM.(as the university will offer the examination later when it renew?is that?@@)I notice that the expiry date for UTM is 2015 is that mean if pass the renewal process, the effective date will be on 2015?or the effective date will be 2017? If is 2017,then 2016 student do consider have the qualification of LAM not?
*
effective means the date the accreditation period is accepted. UTM just had its accreditation renewed. not sure why it's taking too long for the information to be updated here...

hi mr azarimy

im finishing my masters soon, do you have any information or thoughts about the implementation of BIM in construction industry especially from architecture firms in malaysia? should i get into it now..or it will be a waste of time because i dont really need it..?

thank you in advance. smile.gif
*
BIM is already in place and have started to be implemented in major developments in malaysia. i think people in this industry are quickly learning how BIM adoption can save time and money from singapore. so it's a matter of time before the everyone uses it. but be aware that many firms are still very comfortable of doing things the old way. they would say they dont need it now, but im certain the time will come when they realize they can cut costs staggeringly (up to 30%!) by adopting them.

one way or another, i'm pretty certain schools in malaysia have introduced BIM particularly in construction and project management subjects. so u have been learning it anyways. u should get urself familiarized with BIM authoring tools (such as Revit), because as architects, u will need these to get into BIM.

(just in case, BIM is not just about tools like revit. BIM is a system of doing work. i hope u know that wink.gif )

yap, im aware of BIM is a system..and Revit is a tool..smile.gif

yes, ive learned the basic of BIM during my undergrad and a little bit more now..but i dont think it is enough for real world industry..the reason why i asked because when i did my year out for two years..i never used it..and the firm is quite big..that is why i just wondering about that haha
*
I reckon thats 2-3 years ago? Back then most local authorities and JKR were training their staffs and upgrading their system to be BIM ready. So its normal for firms not to be involved in it one bit.

But as they move on to new projects, particularly with current economic uncertainty, i imagine people cutting measures here and there. BIM would cut the long term cost. Hence people with BIM capability would be highly desired.

Hi Sir,

This might be an unusual question but is there an architect who used to be an engineer and he/she designed and built bridges and was famous for it? I heard about it some time ago and I couldn't recall his name...

Does studying interior architecture needs to get recognition (like Part 1 Part 2?) same as studying Architecture?
*
it does. but not as extensive as an architecutral programme.

so far, here's the list of recognized interior design programmes:

uhmm I didn't take art subject in SPM and I still can apply for the course right?
I'm going to apply scholarship for the course but I actually dk what to prepare for portfolio (I saw some of the universities stated that test/portfolio is needed if one didn't take Art subject in SPM)
So, I wonder what should I prepare/draw/include in my portfolio? (I have 0 experience  sad.gif )
*
Yes. Art subject is a bonus, but not a compulsory requirement.
Portfolio requirement for scholarship is most likely different than what architecture schools require.

We usually want to see creative and artistic skills (where else could we see this if u didnt take art subjects in SPM?). So whatever creative product that u have done, regardless formally or informally, can be included. For example:

Sketches, illsutrations, paintings
Posters, magazine cover/layout, logo design
Grafitti and murals
Photography and photo editing
Models, sculptures, fashion design etc
Landscape or interior design

Remember, it could span as far back as 7 years old if need be.

QUOTE(cloudy-person @ Mar 8 2016, 10:47 PM)
Abit confused now
I'm going to be taking a levels and going abroad after. But the whole list of oversea accreditted universities  will be renewed in 2017, and I know some universities in the UK are kinda picky on what subject they prefer, some needing art+science+math and a good art portfolio, but problem here is most colleges dont offer Art as a subject in Malaysia. so I'm really paranoid on what subject i should take.

My question is
1.will most of the universities be removed from the list?
2. Also noted that most Australian and new zealand degrees only offer lam part 2, will there be a chance for their part 1 degrees to be included in the new list?
Or will I have to wait till 2017 to know the list @.@
3. Or would it be better to do a part 1 here first then go abroad for part 2? Is the Acceptance rate high this way?

Sorry for so much weird question I'm hella paranoid since I'll be the first to go abroad in my family if I follow this path
Thanks!!
*
1. ALL overseas universities will be removed from the list.
2. the list will be renewed. at the moment nobody can say for sure how many australian or NZ schools will be included in the list. so u have to wait till 2017 to know it for sure.
3. it's cheaper to do it this way. acceptance rate is more or less equal to part 1. so not much difference.

Hi Mr. Azarimy,

I just applied my application via UPU, my category is under post-diploma. Just want to ask, working experience or SPM result, which one is carrying more weight?
*
i assume u're talking working experience AFTER diploma? if it is so, and if it's in the same field (architecture, landscape, interior design etc), then experience counts more.

but this is so long as u have met all the SPM minimum requirements.

Hi there,

I applied to UTMspace's diploma in architecture, if I manage to enter, is there a higher chance for me to enter UTM for my part 1 degree, compared if I went to a premier polytechnic?

About the same chance.

QUOTE(teru @ Mar 24 2016, 05:22 PM)
Dear Mr. Azarimy,

Thank you for posting up the guides.

Architecture has always been a dream of mine. I was denied from pursuing that dream by my parents when I was 17, and was forced to take a course that was not to my interest (engineering).

Now that I have worked for a few years and saved up some money, I am looking to rekindle my passion in architecture. I have no STPM certificate, only SPM, a foundation in Engineering Studies and a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering.

What is the best route for me to enroll in an architecture course?

Thank you.
*
I believe u should be able to continue straight into degree without the need to take STPM. So its just a matter of doing it full time or part time.

U should also be able to transfer some credits to ease ur degree. But do note that since this is a professional programme, u will have to go through degree (3 years) and later masters (2 years).

Hi Mr. Azarimy,

In response to Teru, you mentioned that he can also pursue architecture as part time. Is this still valid?

Same as Teru, I also had gone into Engineering path while I'm passionate about architecture. Was trying since 2012 communicating with UTMSpace and keep checking their website waiting for them to re-offer part time architecture course.
*
It is. We are currently on schedule to offer BSc Arch part time for the first time this Sept. We face some problems at the moment, but we are adamant on keeping the deadline.

Hello Mr.Azarimy

It's April now so I guess the chance for me to get scholarship to study diploma in architectuaral studies is quite low. So I decided to go for Form 6, I was a science stream student back then but I'm going for Art Sream in F6. (I don't think I can cope with Science subjects in F6 bcuz I didn't perform well in F4 & F5)

I wonder does studying architecture needs Science subjects? (as far as I know Maths subject is compulsory right?) Thanks~
*
Truthfully, what you learned up to form 4 science subjects are sufficient enough to go for architecture. But u cant enroll to any diploma programme without SPM, and degree without STPM/matrics. Thats why u need to go through them.

But if it were up to me, skip straight from form 4 is fine already.

Hello mr. azarimy.

I am currently in my final semester would be graduate with a BSc in Arch soon with a Part 2. If I were to continue my studies into UTM, which has more weight on Portfolios, or Working Experience or CGPA? And of course, any some of the prep I need to do before finishing my course (important things most students overlook like documents etcetera)?
*
1. portfolio
2. working experience
3. cgpa

in that order.

competition winners, design award recipients, entrepreneurs (meaning u have business of ur own), sportsmen etc all carry some weight towards a successful application.

Hi Sir ! It's me again.
Since the UPU permohonan has closed already, just wanna know.
If I'm lucky enough and get chosen to the interview, agak when is the interview ?
agak when can I receive the sms ?
and last question.
In these few weeks. The portfolio of mine has only 10 plus drawing/painting in it.
Do you think its ok ? Does the quantity really matters ?
*
the interviews will be held in may. so expect calls/sms in the next few weeks. different universities will have their specific interview dates, so please verify which is which first.

regarding portfolio, it depends on quality. but based on the people i have interviewed, quality work is extremely rare. if u dont have quality stuff, then u have to fall back to quantity. and 10 is nowhere near enough.

QUOTE(girugaga @ Apr 12 2016, 08:37 AM)
Hi mr azarimy,

I have graduated from my part 1 and have been working for about a year (this will be my second year in the job)

I'm looking to further my part 2 sometime next year and If possible I'd like to go abroad for that. I'm looking at schools like tu delft (Netherlands) and Bartlett (ucl)

I'm leaning more towards Delft at the moment and I was wondering if anyone in your circle have ever pursued a postgraduate in any of these schools? What are the admission rate like? I do know that these school especially Bartlett are tough to get in but as I am weighing my options right now do you think it's worth it (let's say I am able to go there) to study at these schools? In terms of education quality as well as the experience.
*
hi there. i have several friends who went to delft for their PhD. their undergrad school is very good as well, but i'm not sure about their compatibility with our LAM part 1 and 2. i will ask around.

btw, i'm from UCL and i can say that it's not that hard to get into bartlett. heck, i went there with a 3.00cgpa. it's the scholarship that's very hard to get. and, well, graduating is hard too. simply put, bartlett: easy to get in, hard to get out.

to me, bartlett is worth it IF u can afford it. if u can get a scholarship, by all means go there. if ur parents have like RM500k they could throw away for u, by all means do it. other than those two, i dont really recommend it at our current economy. part time jobs no longer could cover it, unlike during my time back then.

all in all, u cant do no wrong in choosing these two schools. it's just a matter if u can afford it or not.
