@xeda, kinda confused of what you are trying to say. Anyway, I would say choose the job that gives you more exposure opportunities for your first job.

QUOTE(imyourlimbeh @ Jun 30 2011, 12:32 PM) Agree with Kelvin. For young people, i would suggest to join small company. From there, normally is "1 leg kick" and you learn alot which i dont think you can learn from MNC. Better to suffer in early age then have a better future later. I totally agreed with your statements.MNS sounds nice, but most of the time you are doing nth or wait for someone due to procedure or too many dependencies to finish 1 simple task. Just my opinion and my experience, may not same as others MNC Although I am in MNC now but I hope to change back to somewhere allows me to hold full responsibility/involvement and hands on for the tasks. While I started work in MNC, I felt like my life is 'meaningless'...! |

Brother, nowadays master degree holder is everywhere, no more certificate or diploma lor...
But if you want to compare between both, Diploma is more 'superior' than Certificate. |

QUOTE(Xrlckclj3nX @ Oct 11 2011, 02:26 PM) Sorry for the late reply, just back from Singapore for working trip. Hi, I'm not exactly the same as your line. I'm in Communications.Previously i work as engineer for agriculture industry for few years in Johor then I went back to further my study in KL I joined this company as intern last time back in mid 2009. With the opportunities that high level management gave me, i manage to fulfill the task given, so far, I've manage to play my role in the pitch team and won some clients for the company. This is why they appreciated for my contributions. But sometime, I really worry in the sense of, if i failed the task they gave me in the future, will they disappointed on me? Sometime when we're meeting/brainstorming in the room, I really got nothing to say as sometime my brain is empty (this makes me worry too) How about you? Are you work in the same industry as me? But I can tell your salary is considered high (according to your working experience). But of course, I understand that the working pressure would go double as well. QUOTE(Xrlckclj3nX @ Oct 11 2011, 03:02 PM) Not sure whether you all ok with the below, Partly agreed with your statements.Pros 1. Your salary increment will be better. 2. Exposed to different company culture and learning experience. 3. Get to know more people. 4. Opportunity will be higher Cons 1. It is not good for your portfolio because of the short period in previous companies. One/two time(s) still ok, but if several times. They will know. 2. Get to know more people is good but somehow. if you hop a lot, people will start to talk bad about you and sooner or later, the bad things will travel to your current/future interviewers. 3. Your working experience will be limited. 4. Do not know how to fully utilize the different type of twist and turn for task accomplishment. Especially the crisis happened. (different companies have their own type of solution for the difficult task/crisis) Be a job hopper or not, it depends on the industry as some of the industry requires years of experience and some are not. The best recommendation is grab the opportunity in the right time and shine. Sometime, you will have no choice but to be an ass licker in order to get yourself a future advancement insurance/opportunity. Don't only work hard, but need to work smart as well. People talk bad for certain reasons. If you can perform well in each company that your hop, I don't see a reason why people would talk back about you. Secondly, how short is short for you? QUOTE(kelvin_tan @ Nov 22 2011, 05:49 PM) @justinnys Agreed with you Kelvin. While you are right RM4k+ pay is nothing to shout about these days, how many people actually get it at age 25? Not to say it isnt achievable but its not like "normal" unless he's adding in all his benefits as well. RM4k+ at that age is decent. Also set the realistic expectations that nobody gets rich at that age (by working for others) to be able to afford bungalows and mercedez while still can got plenty of spare cash to spend. Not many fresh grad can earn RM4k (plus allowance) these days. Majority of them (be it engineer, admin, account, audit etc) have starting pay of RM2500 or maximum RM3000 per month. Fresh grads who do sales, you can reach RM3000+ per month (included commission). Maybe justinnys is coming from rich family? Or he hasn't graduated yet? Just kidding... |

QUOTE(justin_nys @ Nov 22 2011, 10:10 PM) I agree with you. Of course your example of bungalows and Mercedes Benz is funny and definitely not the standard What do you mean by short term and long term career goals?1. Don't understand (or don't bother to understand) the marketplace before they join the workforce. 2. Don't network and don't understand the importance of networking. 3. Don't have short term and long term career goals. Without them, action plan could not be formed around those goals. 4. Refuse to go back to the books to add value to themselves. There's a saying, It's easier to get there when you know where you want to get to. |

QUOTE(justin_nys @ Nov 22 2011, 11:21 PM) Let's take IT as an example since I'm familiar with this line Alright. Thanks for sharing. Say you started your career as IT on site technician.. Short term goal (1-2 years): Move to a more technical and specialized role. So in order to reach there, you take on technical certification, be good at it and add value to yourself. Make sure every job change compliments your goal. Long term goal (5 years): Management role or Subject matter expert. Use several short term goals to gradually get here. Perform well in your field with lots of networking. By knowing what you want and setting goals, it's easier to plan what you need to do in order to get there. As I come to different stages of life, my goal has been revised for numeral times. Salute you as you could hold on your goal all these years. |

Added on December 30, 2011, 10:01 am work as engineer for 6 years but still lower than 4k..thats quite bad... QUOTE(doomdoom @ Dec 30 2011, 11:17 AM) doomdoom, you seem like know the market quite well thus all the comments given to the forumers. Are you sure your comments stand valid? In fact not every position with assistant manager level will get paid for RM10k or so, it's really depends on structure of a company, which line, and also years of experience you have gained. By the way, have you shared yours as well? |

QUOTE(cutiepooh @ Jan 7 2012, 11:19 PM) To join a good company or not is not in our control. Is a company to select/choose you. But will of cuz send a resume to have a very good luck if only they call you back I super agreed with what you said....after working for 5 years, been there done that, what's done is done, tried what i want. All the fame, corporate ladder and authority, in the end doesn't put bread on the table. For me, I have lost all the interests and only want a stable job. Stable salary which can be save up for my near future. And yeah, sometimes it's not our control to join a good company. Every HR will sure tell you their company is good during interview, you will only know how good is good after you have joined. |
