Recently i purchased an Ipad in Harvey Norman in Ikano and later Apple slashed the price for RM350-Rm400. My question is can i get a refund?
A quick check to Apple policies on their pricing. The clause is taken in Apple website.

QUOTE
9. Prices

9.1 The Apple Store endeavours to offer you competitive prices on current Apple products. Apple reserves the right to change prices for products displayed at the Apple Store at any time.

9.2 Should Apple reduce its price on any product you have purchased (except promotional / special / discount / refurbished products) within 14 calendar days of receiving your goods, you may contact the Apple Store Order Management team on 1800-806-419 to request a refund or credit of the difference between the price you were charged and the current selling price. To receive the refund or credit you must contact Apple within 14 calendar days of receiving your goods.

I called up Apple Malaysia and they told me that this policies is applicable in online apple store. So i ask them how bout their reseller and he told me that i will need to talk to the reseller and the reseller will have to deal with Apple themselves.

So i call up Harvey Norman on this issue and they will check with Apple about this policies. They will call me back once they sorted out everything.
Wish me luck. Jes trying my luck tongue.gif

that policy has been a while for sometime la. but only applicable for purchases from the Apple online store... frankly speaking, i would advise forumers to purchase from the online store because even u are not getting as much freebies as buying from a reseller, but ur point of contact is Apple directly and when issue arise such as warranty and issue like this, they will handle it promptly.

if ur unit is bought from Apple store, to be eligible for the refund, the unit must be bought no longer than 14 days from 2nd March 2011. means it must be bought after 16th Feb

Apple confirms $100 refund for those who recently purchased an original iPad
BY DARREN MURPH
POSTED MAR 4TH 2011 04:36PM

Much like the company did when it suddenly dropped the price of its original iPhone, Apple is giving $100 back to those who purchased an iPad up to a fortnight before the March 2nd unveiling of the iPad 2. If our math is correct, that makes February 16th the cutoff date, and it's being reported that those in the US will see $100 placed back on their credit card, while those overseas will get £100 / €100 back in their pocket. If you've suddenly found yourself in this pool, you'll need to head back to a brick-and-mortar location with your receipt to get the refund processed, or if you ordered online, you'll need to call Apple's 1-800 number and use your smoothest late-night voice when asking nicely for your Benjamin back. Apparently they dun let me refund saying that it only applicable at apple store n not reseller.. They havr call apple to clarified bout it.
Somehow i am not satisfied with HN answer. i said Maxhine have this policies and y not HN? They told me cause machine is premium reseller which HN is not..
Anyway, will call up apple malaysia this coming omday agian to double clarificatipn with them again.
I mean apple should standardise this as it is apple policies.

its just a waste of time calling Apple. because you need to know that the money you paid went to Harvey Norman and not Apple. Harvey Norman got ur profits. so Apple can't control or force them to refund you since they are a 3rd party company and they have their own business policy. lets put it this way. you paid Harvey Norman, now u are asking for refund from Apple? doesn't make sense at all. And for those who buy from Apple Online store. do call them because u paid Apple directly. they will have no issue offering a refund (i suppose) if the unit is less than a week old sin the money is with them. not a reseller.

I dun quite agree with uon tis statement. HN need to adhere to Apple policies. They must claim from Apple and get the refund for us. you dun jes sell any product without adhering to their policies. My reason of calling Apple is not getting direct refund for thembut to confirm with them weather can HN claim the refund from them and let HN to refund cust.

unless the policy only refer to Apple Online Store. Did HN offer you a similar policy with their products, in this case iPad? Since you bought from HN, it's a contract between you and HN, not Apple. Why you choose to buy from HN instead of Apple Online Store ?

If indeed the policy is only applicable for Online Store, then nasib lor.

But I advise you complain kau kau wif Machines or Harvey Norman. Tell them might as well everyone buy online not from them. Reseller like them will sure complain the same thing to Apple Malaysia. They also scared every1 runs to online store purchase. Harvey nvm, Machines can chaplap like that.

Trust me, it will be a waste of time talking to Apple. Because your point of contact is HN and not Apple. HN need to adhere to Apple policy, you are right. but bare in mind as well. when there is a DOA or unsatisfied user on the product. if u buy from HN, do they allow you to ask for refund? the answer is 100% no. but if u buy from Apple. there is a 14 days cold period where you can ask for refund or a 1 to 1 exchange or upgrade to other product. this all comes back to the main point. YOU ARE BUYING FROM HARVEY NORMAN, APPLE WILL NOT INTERFERE ON THEIR RESELLER'S policy.

The straight answer for that is no.
Why? Because being an Apple Reseller means, they have to buy the products from Apple first, and later sell it back to you.
And that also means that the resellers get all the money, not Apple. Knowing the state of mind of the current resellers, they would not want to waste their money to give refunds.
It would be pointless to call Apple Malaysia, as they can't do much about it.
The exception would be the Malaysian Apple Online Store.
Solution? Always buy your stuff from the Online Store if possible, and pray hard that Apple opens up a Retail Store here in Malaysia.

For my case, the refund isn't that big of a deal, it would just be a bonus if they decide to give it.
I'm still happy with my purchase, and that's what counts in the end, haha

cmon guys, if i go by this logic, everytime i buy a nokia and the next month a new model with better specs comes in, should i ask for a refund? Apple launches products on a yearly cycle often in the same timeline, as in september/october = ipods, july=iphone, march/april = ipad, a simple google search of ipad 2 a few weeks ago will point you to the right websites. cheers.

Another reason to buy online I guess, do you know that you could return your purchase for a full refund if you decide to do so within 14 days? I didn't know this until someone in MBP thread managed to get his refund/replacement MBP that he bought a week before the current MBP went on sale.

i think in his case, its the new MBP that was strong enough a reason to get a refund, but if suka suka want to refund just because u dont know how to use, cannot la.

nope, u are wrong, YOU CAN ASK FOR A REFUND IF U ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH THE PRODUCT. but of course, the refund thing is a 1 time thing la. don't tell me u go buy a MBP, then ask for refund after u play with it for 3 days. then buy another iPod Touch, did the same thing, of course Apple won't layan you. But if u are sincerely not happy with the product offered, you can ask for a refund, Apple might charge you 10% of the purchase price as the open box fees, but this is on a case to case basis. a refund is definitely possible, just depends on Apple wants to charge u the 10% or not.

what i mean is, u can ask for refund even no new macbook launch... its their policy to offer a 14 days cold period because the Apple Online store is following US style.
It all depends on the customer. From Apple's perspective, as long as a cust call in and wants to return the unit because they are not happy with it within the 1st 14 days, they will refund it. but anything after 14 days, i am sorry to say that u are stuck with it. too bad. even the new iPad, iPod or Mac is launched on the 15th day of your purchase, then there is nothing that they can do. so your not need to have a valid reason to ask for refund on the 1st 14 days, just say u don't like the product, pay 10% open box fees, and u get your money back. simple as that.

I don't know why he don't understand what you're saying.

Basically what Apple policy is, within 14 days, you can return your purchase and get back 90% of your purchase price without even giving a single
reason.

Anyone could not understand this should just get headshot.

i had a friend whom returned the unit on the 15th day to get a refund, he explained as nicely as possible and they sent DHL to pick it up, what i menat much much earlier with suka suka tukar is those who refund for the sake of refunding without doing any research whether their purchased item might be useful for them or not, as they stand to loose 10%, its a big amount if you CTO a Mac Pro for example, so its a loss on their part not that apple wouldnt want to refund the balance 90%. My bad for being not clear earlier.

*
First, Apple didn't announce this at all, go to apple.com/hotnews to check it out whether any such news been officially announce by apple?

All the news, media, report you need is from 3rd party, not from Apple. So, you need to differentiate this.

It's the states and it's consumer laws, their policies is the issues actually.

It does stated in consumer laws, but consumer laws is the guideline, there must be a valid reason, valid argument.

As Lester explained clearly, refund, Apple will provide the refund so long it's within the 1st 14 days.

Apple Store Malaysia to refund price difference for iPads

Apple Store Malaysia has confirmed that they are making refunds to those who purchased their original iPads online recently. We called their hotline to verify and they mentioned that they will pay back the price difference with the new slashed pricing. Last we checked, the difference for the iPad Wifi version is RM350 while the iPad 3G version is RM400.

To qualify, your purchase must not be made more than 14 days before the iPad 2 announcement on March 3rd (Malaysian time). If you’re one of the online shoppers that bought recently, you can call 1800-80-6419 for more info.

For those who purchased on ground at the retail outlets, you are advised to check with them at the stores. To check out the current price, head to Apple Store Malaysia iPad page.

when i get my ipad for my mum, the harvey normand salesman tell me that he does not work under harvey, but instead he work directly under apple

harvey is just a place apple rent it to sell their product.

which i think got some true as why they got loads of ipad 16gb wifi stock, while all other switch (or others) does not have it

PS: yea, after read what adriankhoo153 post, yes, harvey is apple store. not only apple reseller tongue.gif

My reason of calling Apple is not getting direct refund for thembut to confirm with them weather can HN claim the refund from them and let HN to refund cust.
*
read properly, harvey is listed as apple store.

all others is listed as apple premium reseller

It's been in the news before Ipad1 arrive in Malaysia. In this Lowyat forum, we already talk about it in Kopitiam before the Ipad1 release in Malaysia.

Yup, it has been in the news since ipad1 was released smile.gif But the date it was anticipated was discussed very much in many IT websites, if you bought it in Feb, it means that you surely missed it.. and there is nothing wrong with ipad1, I've just bought one for my wife too .. but with a discount lah.. someone letting go his ipad for a song (er.. not really, but he loose around RM600 I guess) .. still wrapped.. wife love it .. and she doesn't really mind having ipad instead ipad2.

yea, you are too stupid for not knowing apple will refresh it's iphone/ipad/ipod every year

so you can stop buying any technology product, since they will always have new things come out

from phones to PC to car

heck you can even stop eating, since you will need to eat again every few hours

Some of the late buyer including me who bought the Ipad within 14 days of the Ipad price slash is unhappy vmad.gif due to the Apple "price difference policy" which cover only online sales. This is Malaysia and how many people trusted buying >RM1k stuff over internet? Courier service level in Malaysia is another thing to add if the product have defect during shipment.

It is totally unacceptable with Apple double standard in Malaysia on their policy for online purchase or retail purchase. Is Apple trying to tell consumer in Malaysia to fully experience Apple products at "Premium Reseller" but make sure you buy it online at Apple store?

What about those so called "premium reseller" stock in hand? Will they suffer a lost due to Apple mandatory price slash or Apple is compensating them quietly? This make Malaysian consumer looks stupid. China reseller is refunding price difference on their own and they mentioned they will bring this back to Apple.

Why price cut buy instead Apple can offer voucher on next purchase or bundled with accessories to clear stock? People will still buy if they can't wait for Ipad2 (which Malaysians have to wait for the Ipad official launch by 8 months previously).

09 March 2011 - Apple Store Malaysia confirmed at they are refunding to those who purchased the original iPad online. That's right, if you bought your iPad 14 days before the iPad 2 announcement on March 2nd (2am, March 3rd Malaysian Time), Apple Store Malaysia will reimburse the difference. That means that if you bought the WiFi 16GB for RM RM1549, Apple will reimburse you according to its current pricing which is RM1199.
SoyaCincau confirmed that this offer only to those who bought their iPads online and those who bought it at the brick and mortar Apple store will have to trek back for enquiries. So do call 1800-80-6419 if you are an online shopper.

The return policy probably only valid for buying online .. check your retailers, probably each retailer has their own policy for the return. Wish Apple has it own store here.. but don't really put a hope on it..

First iPad 2 Reviews: Evolutionary, 512MB RAM, Thinner, Faster

Apple's iPad 2 launches this Friday, but the first reviews are starting to trickle in. Apple typically supplies pre-release hardware to certain organizations for early review. Here are the early reviews, with some key findings.

- MacWorld
- "Pick up an iPad 2 after handling an original iPad, and you'll notice the difference right away. This is a lighter, thinner device."
- "The iPad 2 also has 512MB of RAM--twice that of the original iPad--and a 200MHz bus speed, likewise twice that of the original."
- "Though the iPad 2 is an improvement on the original iPad in numerous ways, itÂ’s still an evolutionary product, not a revolutionary one"
- "In short, the iPad 2 is the fastest iOS device ever made, by a long shot."

- AllThingsD
- Cameras take mediocre still photos, decent video
- Battery life not as strong as first iPad, but impressive.
- "It never crashed in my tests, unlike every Android tablet I've tested."
- "As of now, I can comfortably recommend it as the best tablet for average consumers."

- Engadget
- "iPad 2 managed an astonishing 10 hours and 26 minutes of non-stop playback" -- better than iPad 1 in their testing.
- Cameras are "pretty bad" for stills, reasonably useful for video
- GarageBand is a "groundbreaking piece of software for tablets"
- "The iPad 2 isn't just the best tablet on the market, it feels like the only tablet on the market"

user posted image

- NYTimes
- "My friends, I'm telling you: just that much improvement in thinness, weight and speed transforms the experience. "
- 5-megapixel camera on back (no flash) (? Only review to claim this stat and is contradicted by other reviews)

- SlashGear
- "We were able to software decode a side loaded 1.4GB .avi file in OPlayer on the fly, while watching it, without and lag or stutter. The same clip in the same app on the original iPad loads slower and drops frames and audio during playback."

Dear Customer Service,

Recently I bought my ipad which fall in the period of rebate. As you have heard the whole world is getting a refund for those ipad bought in 14 days before ipad 2 launch.
I would like to know weather apple store in Harvey Norman give us rebate on this?

QUOTE
Dear Mr Adrian,

We apologise for the late reply.

We regret to informed that the said refund is only applicable if you purchase
your IPAD directly from Apple store, not from authorize dealer.

We sincerely hope that we have clarified ourselves in this matter.

Thank you and have a good day.

Because apple made the offer -> ppl want to make the claim

Because the offer made by apple is applicable for online sales -> many ppl rage

Because the offer (not even confirmed yet) if applicable to premium/authorised/direct/etc etc -> many ppl even more rage

Comparing against buying a padini shirt before and after jusco sales -> idiotic

@adriankhoo153,
First of all, telling about the whole world getting the refund, surely does not help out at all.
Secondly, with such a large customer database, do you really think Harvey Norman is going to beg at your knees to come back, after that email..?

@adriankhoo153,
I'm not angry or anything.
I also understand that you are trying to get back some money.

That's why i'm kinda steadfast on buying online. Especially Macs, iPads and iPods. (I went thru this price-drop experience before, as well)
I really hope that Apple opens up a Retail Store soon enough. At least we won't get this kind of crap often.
And hope this would give you a better indication to follow closely on Apple news, bro.
With a new product, there would surely be a price cut somewhere.

@adriankhoo153,
Let it happen. If that is what it takes for the current APRs and AARs to improve, so be it.

Guys, wake up. Our market is not big enuf for apple to actually open a direct store here. Authorised resellers are more than capable to handle our volume of mac products.

It only sucks that iphone4 is not made readily available through authorised resellers other than digi/maxis.

Just spoke to GM of one premium reseller (after few nasty email to them, and finally the GM called me). He said:
1) Apple refund the price slash to premium reseller on their stock in hand only
2) Apple will not rebate to those silly buyer (including me, add silly word myself)) tat bought Ipad from premium reseller (who ask u not buying from online)
3) Premium seller will rebate custmer accordingly if Apple agreed (which he doubt it)
I then told him tat I want to make complaints to NCCC for Apple's double standard and demand him for contact person etc, off course he refuse to give me..... Anyone know Apple Malaysia branch GM?
I further question him on 14 days return policy, he said premium reseller will not accept product return if your whatever apple product is in good condition (even it is factory defect they will not refund or swap new set to you but insist to claim warranty and ask you to seat back and enjoy the two weeks waiting time) So the trick to return your Ipad within 14 days to get refund then buy cheaper ipad will not work.
Damn, with all these double standard, Apple is potong'ing customer base of premium reseller. I think apple retail store is on its way.
