As the name of the topic says, will is pose a problem if the guy's blood type is AB- and the girl's blood type is AB+ to have baby?

Doing google search on this topic is quite difficult, and I somehow stumbled upon two sites that says two different thing somehow.
One says that it will be alright and another says that the woman will have miscarriage.

Anyone knows a solid answer to this?

it is alright when she isn't in the rh- blood group. you can check for "rh disease" if you like to know more about it

i am a O- and doc was concerned if my hubby was +. That would be risky to the mother's life if baby is +. But in my case hubby is also -, so no worries there. I believe in your case, there should be no risk. For concrete answer, pls check your doctor.

First you need to know your ABO blood group system. For example, mine is A. My rhesus (Rh) is Positive (+). To make things simple, for blood transfusion process, you need to factor in the ABO blood group as well as the Rhesus factor.

Blood transfusion: Consideration to be taken - ABO blood group (A) and Rhesus factor (+)

The above is an example depicted from my own.

thank you guys for the brief and straight answers smile.gif
i did some more googling after getting the keyword search tips from meow25 (thank you!) and i found out it will affect woman who's RH are negative and the man's RH are positive AND that the baby inside is RH positive as well.

though the first child won't have any problems as the mother still haven't develop the antibody to ward off the positive RH blood cells from the baby's. it is the 2nd child onwards that will have problems but with today's technology, doctors are able to detect and cure this problems early. i forgot which site i was referring to already >.<

@qarezma, you have one rare blood blood type like me. i wonder if u r a regular blood donor? smile.gif

@joey, yeah, i know both me n my gf's blood type, mine's AB- and her's AB+.

still, i have a good mind to consult doctors regarding this issue as some forumers have advised smile.gif

All pregnant mothers will have their blood group and Rhesus factor checked on their 1st antenatal checkup. Rh-ve mothers with Rh+ve fathers may produce Rh+ve babies (google up Mendelian inheritance)
Mothers who are Rh -ve will get 'special' follow up from the OBGYN throughout pregnancy, labour, and then subsequent pregnancies.

If the baby is Rh -ve, no problem.
If the baby is Rh +ve, the mother gets a Rhogam jab after childbirth to neutralize any 'stray' blood cells from the baby which may trigger the mothers' immune system to produce anti-Rh antibodies. These anti-Rh antibodies are harmful to future Rh+ve pregnancies.

Hence, in modern medicine, miscarriages / stillborns due to Rhesus disease is unacceptable.

Seeing this topic, feel wanna to share something here.

My husband and myself is B+. But so happen our boy is B-.
It was a shock and we have asked the doctor why this is happening. He said is possible. sad.gif
Therefore, if touchwood that he need any blood transfer, both of us cannot help him.
And it was not known to us during my pregnancy, that the baby is of different RH with me.

Mine was done twice at PathLab (Once through private clinic another time was in PathLab Centre in Ipoh). Yes, you can go to any private clinics for medical check-up.
