QUOTE(scorpiok @ Dec 11 2020, 09:10 AM) Why need to put tile there? If the foundation is stable like soil is not sunk on one side to the other, then nothing will crack. Why not just but pavement block like those on walkway? |

QUOTE(iconic123 @ Dec 22 2020, 09:21 PM) Hi guys, my house is newly renovated about three years, from around two years ago, i noticed that my tiles will have loud popping sound at night, my guess is because i turn on aircon at night, causing contraction of the tile. Is this because of poor workmanship? This has affected my sleep as sometimes in the middle of the night it will pop sharply, and it goes on for a few seconds. Will the tiles come loose in future? I'd say wrong method or installation SOP Depends on tiles, some need to soak with water before installation and some not necessarily. It is just air-cond. What about those who lived in 4 seasons countries? Some use special adhesive mix with cement and some use as is. Mine I think was just cement and been more than 10 years. |

QUOTE(iconic123 @ Dec 25 2020, 12:01 PM) Some tiles are too porous. It will absorb water from cement too fast that it has not enough time to adhere properly. You can google anything you want to know about tiling in Internet nowadays. |

QUOTE(C0deXeus @ Jan 15 2021, 08:49 PM) Hi sifus, I'm seeking for opinions. Probably just takes more time to dry since more water but on tile surface still able to scrape off even after dry.I just re-grouted portion of the tiles at dining area. I find the new grout is powdery and can easily wipe off with damp cloth even after 24 hr. Is grout usually behave like this or is something wrong? I mix the grout with water and stir like a bit moist than toothpaste cuz first time do, scare too fast dry Tq Looks good. |

QUOTE(senscents @ Jan 23 2021, 01:25 PM) Thanks for your input, you seem knowledgeable on. Need to gauge the pricing and quality between quartz, porcelain tiles and branded quartz. You will regret using tiles because grouting line will collect dirt and become square dirt lines. Maybe okay for some but periodical cleaning is not something people tend to follow Based on my recent survey : Low price/quality quartz as excepted, we will not know the quality or % of quartz and material. Some will be good, some acceptable and some bad but for the price we pay it's a gamble. Branded quartz as we all know it's a great product that comes with a higher cost. As for large format porcelain tiles it's gaining traction here in asia. Eupore has been producing and using it then the US and now it's available to us in Asia. Porcelain tiles has been around for quite some time and proven to be versatile and durable, now couple with new Modern digital printing production methods have largely contributed to the success of Large format and Extra Large format tiles that can reinterpret marble, stone and onyx has to offer. As for the total cost of constructing a countertops, cabinet, floor or wall with this large format tile vs the branded quartz, 🤔 Marble and quartz stone is not cheap and can darken over time but for me it is not glass friendly. I'd go for solid surface countertop material like Corian (expensive due to well known brand). It is made of resin and acrylic. There will be no joint. Can stand heat and very durable. I use this for mine. Even the backsplash also at the hob is also jointless to the table. Easy to clean. It was probably 15 years already and I can't remember the cost. It is common now than it was then |

QUOTE(crusher @ Feb 24 2021, 07:03 PM) Hi all, anyone know does high heat (sun) where expose every evening will cause the tiles "pop out"? Hard to say whose fault perhaps.Or the kitchen backyard land has sinked that cause it pop out. Or soley just because poor workmanship that cause "pop out" Any suggestion what to look at when engage tiles contractor? I have leftover of 10 pieces same porcelain tiles. Not sure its sufficient but as i tested each tiles, sound like more than 10 pieces has hollow sound. All tiles have hollow sound are facing sun exposed direction » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Anything exposed to the sun with expand ans shrink to temp change, but by how much depends on the material. Not all tiles the same. The tile expansion and the cement behind it expand at different rate thus caused delamination. However, not to count out poor workmanship too but in this case possibly both The house is on rigid house frame. Normally on soft soil, they do piling. However, when soil eroded over time the house frame structure can stress also a bit and cause small crack like you normally see on wall. If there is tile on that part, the tile can become lose or even cracked as in my kitchen (hairline crack) |

QUOTE(crusher @ Feb 25 2021, 02:37 PM) thanks. I believe the marble glue is another name for epoxy glue. Yes, normally it will solve the problem. Even silicone that meant for outdoor can withstand heat and cold like one used for gutter for about 20 years.i've engaged one of the contractor who suggested to remove the tiles & and reinstall it by applying marble gum. at first suggested to use silicon gum but I told him I dont think silicon can hold for long. anyone experience solving the problem by using marble gum? Thank you |

QUOTE(crusher @ Feb 25 2021, 04:48 PM) Any specific brand for epoxy glue to be use? So in short, epoxy glue better than silicon right? Whats your opinion? I'd say epoxy is better in my opinion. Brand? I have no idea since I'm not in contracting business whatever. In electronics industry but like DIY at home. |

QUOTE(yrh0413 @ Apr 13 2021, 12:31 PM) would like to seek advises from fellow forumers here. Glossy finish for car porch? How soon you think you start noticing the scratches on glossy finish My house currently has grey tiles for my car porch. Over the years some of the tiles turned black and it looks ugly. I'm considering to replace the existing tiles with new ones, and I am looking at gloss-black tiles. Other than being slippery while wet, and may get hot during hot sun... any other issues I should be aware of? |
