Dermalogica Newsletter Vol.52
[Thermal Body Therapy]

Chances are you take pretty good care of your face. You would never use a bar of soap on it, nor would you step out of the bathroom without toning, moisturizing and applying a protective dose of sunscreen.

But what about the rest of you? Think your arms, chest and legs don't deserve that same attention? Think again! Body therapy is as ancient as Greek thermaes and Turkish Baths. During this era, spa meant "health through water." However, through expansion and accessibility, the word "spa" has become synonymous with luxury and pampering. In fact, check out any body lotions or shower gels you may have in your home and you'll notice that very little mention is made of any health benefits to skin.

What does this all mean? It's simple -just because our facial skin may be more delicate than any other place on our bodies, that doesn't mean the scrubbing, soaping, shaving and exposure to UV rays and overall abuse performed beyond the neckline is acceptable! Our bodies can experience the same skin conditions as our faces (including acne, dry skin and sensitivity) and require the same targeted, results-driven treatments and regimens we
give our faces.

Dermalogica believes that today's body therapy experience should be a collective homage to ancient traditions and modern technological wonders, designed to benefit both the emotional state and the health of the body. That's why we're introducing a whole new suite of body treatments and professional products called Thermal Body Therapy. Our Thermal Body Therapy Treatments and products combine the power of heat with the power of touch to create serious, results-driven treatments that address specific conditions of the body's skin, and feel insanely great!

Want to experience a professional Thermal Body Therapy Treatment? Speak with your skin therapist today
to book your first treatment!

It's no surprise these days that a lot of what you eat is not only good for your skin, but can be applied directly to it for even more benefits.

Wasabi is the perfect example - it is sushi's ultimate sidekick, powerful to the point of where a slight dip into the green, pasty dollop will add some serious kick to your roll. It's also powerful when applied to skin, helping to add warmth while soothing the most inflamed conditions.

Known as Japanese Horseradish or Japanese
Wasabi Root, Wasabi grows only near pure cold running streams or rivers and will not grow in a polluted environment. The recognizable feeling Wasabi generates (it hits your tongue and climbs up into the sinus cavity, spreading through the nose) is produced by isothiosyanates, which are compounds found in vegetables. That warmth can also be felt when applied to skin, as the product has natural warming properties.

Japanese Wasabi Root is recognized for having anti-inflammatory properties, as well as a high Vitamin C (antioxidant) content. Apparently, Wasabi's medicinal properties were first documented in a 10th-century
Japanese medical encyclopedia, and continued research in Japan suggests that Wasabi may also have anti-carcinogenic properties, help prevent harmful blood clots and may have anti-asthmatic and anti-microbial properties. (An anti-microbial is a substance that slows or kills the growth of bacteria, fungi, viruses or parasites.)

You can find Japanese Wasabi Root along with Tropical Asian Ginger and White Tea Extract (two other naturally warming ingredients with antioxidant and other amazing skin-benefiting properties) in Dermalogica's new Thermal Body Therapy professional treatment products! Ask your skin therapist how you can book your first treatment today! Attached Image

Hot yoga, a series of 26 poses performed in a heated space, is the go-to form of exercise for complete health. During hot yoga, a heated room is used to help intensify the warmth felt by the practitioners, helping to relax the muscles quickly, therefore increasing flexibility and helping prevent injury.

In addition to increasing calories burned and improving muscle tone, another reason why so many people love hot yoga is because of what it does for their skin! The intense heat used during the session aids in skin detoxification via sweating, much in the way a Thermal Body Therapy Treatment does.

While sweating is primarily a means of temperature regulation (eccrine sweat glands, located primarily in the palms, soles of feet and on the forehead, are mostly for this purpose), a rise in temperature does cause pores to open up and release metabolic and other types of waste (including alcohol, nicotine, sodium and cholesterol). Because sweating can help our bodies release up to 30% of bodily wastes, sweating as a method of toxin elimination is critical to health, and beneficial to the overall appearance of skin!

Ask your skin therapist about the many ways Thermal Body Therapy Treatments can help benefit your skin. And of course, before starting hot yoga or any exercise program, speak to your doctor to see if it's right for you.

what to look for in a body treatment

Curious about body treatments? Or maybe you want to know why Dermalogica Thermal Body Therapy Treatments are insanely great! Here are some questions and answers to get you more acquainted with the Thermal Body Therapy experience. And of course, if you have any additional questions, ask your Dermalogica skin therapist!

What Thermal Body Therapy Treatments* can I choose from?
. Mineral Salt Scrub Therapy
. Body Foliation Therapy
. Power Recovery(R) Therapy
. Nourishing Sea Mud Therapy
. Mud Massage Therapy
. Deep Thermal Therapy with
Thermal Stamp

And with Body Mapping(R), the zone-by-zone skin analysis, each treatment is customized
to meet your skin care needs.

Does the skin on my body really need the same health-focused treatments as my face?

Of course - and in some cases, even more so! Many people suffer with skin conditions such as rosacea and acne on their backs, arms and legs without showing any signs on their face. Cleansing, exfoliation and hydration are just as critical for the body, making body treatments as important to your overall health as face treatments.

How will my Thermal Body Therapy Treatment feel?

A Thermal Body Therapy Treatment serves two equal purposes - to deliver skin health and feel incredible! Through the use of professional Dermalogica products that feel amazing when on your skin, your Dermalogica skin therapist will also use heat throughout the treatment to help maintain your utmost level of comfort.

Upon completion of your Thermal Body Therapy Treatment, you'll feel invigorated, relaxed, and recharged - all at the same time!

Experience your Dermalogica Thermal Body Therapy Treatment that focuses on skin health and the ultimate sensory experience by booking it today!
*All treatments may not be offered by your skin treatment center. Ask your skin therapist for a menu of services and for a complete listing of treatments offered.

Hi Rayanne,

Do you have any recommendation for sun blocks? My skin was in sensitive condition earlier and now is recovering after i changed my skin care to dermalogica.
I'm currently using:
- Ultra Calming Clenser (Morning)
- Essential Clensing Milk (Night)
- Ultra Calming Protection Spray (Toner) - travel kit
- Skin Smoothing Cream (Night) - travel kit
- Active Moist (Day) - travel kit
- Barrier Repair (Day) - travel kit
- Skin Soothing Booster (Day & Night)
- Hydrating Masque (Daily)

I used to have alot of small pimples on my forehead... and now is in recovering condition too. The scars are still visible though.
Could you advise on the skin care i'm using now? Am I using them correctly?
By the way, i also have the Precleanse with me... but i have stop using it temporarily because my skin is still quite dry especially after shower time.
The travel kits are finishing soon, so, i'm running out of toner and moisturizer.
And i'm not using any sun blocks at the moment. I hope that you can give some recommendation base on my skin condition.
Thanks Alot!!! smile.gif

Hi uniQcorn,
Pm replied.
Please refer to above red quoted text.
The reason why i amended it because Ultracalming cleanser tend to remove dirts from environment pollution especially at evening you return from outside. Precleanse can be use when u feel face real oily esp early morning or evening return from outdoor.

for sensitive skin,i would recommend:
ultra sensitive faceblock spf25,50ml RM133
super sensitive faceblock spf30,50ml RM198
Yes you are right, super sensitive faceblock is not grease!
TQ smile.gif

My condition is not severe but i think mine is hereditary, my mum has obvious milia seeds, mine has been there but not as much as my mum. Does it really help reducing or provides a total cure for milia seeds?
Anything that I can do to prevent milia seeds ?
thanks for your assistance. wub.gif

Dermalogica Newsletter
[Exfoliation and the complete health of your skin]

Fact: The number one service requested in skin care centers is still exfoliation. It's no wonder - skin exfoliation improves the health, quality and tone of skin by assisting in the removal of dead skin cells from the surface (human skin produces about one million skin cells per minute, which equates to five billion skin cells per day).

So what's the most effective, yet least irritating form of professional exfoliation available? You may have heard a lot about glycolic acid (a hydroxy acid traditionally manufactured from sugar cane) - it was the first to be used in a cosmetic application, and is still widely used despite its high incidence of skin irritation.

So why is Glycolic Acid still in use? Because professionals and consumers alike equate irritation with efficacy - and this is simply not true! In fact, any exfoliation treatment that causes skin to become red and irritated is triggering the inflammatory response, which in turn accelerates premature aging.

Because of Glycolic Acid's known irritation factor, leading skin care professionals are choosing other forms of hydroxy acids that are just as effective, such as Lactic Acid (derived primarily from milk).

Scientific studies have shown that when one compares Lactic Acid to Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid stimulates cell turnover and cell renewal at a higher rate than Glycolic Acid and with less irritation.

Also, unlike Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid has added benefits: it hydrates, increases natural ceramides (barrier lipids), and helps whiten skin when used at concentrations greater than 5%.

Dermalogica skin therapists have an effective arsenal of professional products ideal for exfoliating skin without causing excessive irritation. And because every professional Dermalogica skin treatment is customized based upon Face MappingSM skin analysis, you're guaranteed to receive the level of exfoliation your skin needs for visible results sans irritation.

And of course, your Dermalogica skin therapist can prescribe the right exfoliation products to help you maintain the health of your skin in between treatments.

Find a skin treatment center near you that provides professional skin treatments and Dermalogica consultation.
