hey guys, would like to ask some question for all of you.

how crappy is DIR-615 that has been provided by TM?It seems ok when i'm using it with pc (normal surfing, youtubing, dowloading) but when i playing online with xbox live, i can't get full bars. sometimes i can get three bars of signal(yellow color), 4 bars (green - once in a blue moon) and one bar (frequent- red). playing black ops can be very frustrating because you have already shoot the opponent with full clip yet they still running around and kill you back.

  I'm thinking to change my router to a better one but i'm not sure whether i'm going to ditch the DIR-615 completely and get Mikrotik switch with good router or just do the VLAN tagging with DIR-615 to another router. any significant improvement for these 3:

1- xbox>>DIR615 (crappy)
2- xbox>>>Router>>>DIR-615 (any improvement?)
3- xbox>>router>>mikrotik (any improvement?)

i'm quiet satisfied with the speed i got when using DIR-615 with pc, that's why i asked if any of you can give me the answer for my problem. Thanks.
p/s: my xbox is wired to DIR-615, not wireless.

p/p/s: i'm on vdsl, not ftth. yeah i know vdsl is not that good but i would be thankful if i can at least get 2 bars frequently.

Hey, im a tech noob, hope can get some help from you guys, been reading around, end still confused. My installation appointment is on 12 March 2011. Hope to get a clearer picture before they come.

1) I would like to know, does the installation provide wifi adapter? (My desktop don't have one atm)
    - If yes, its free or how much they charge?
    - If no, can anyone recommend me which brand/model/type to buy?
No it's not included, you'll have to purchase your own. Honestly there's not much difference between brands for such small products. Go google around.

2) If the box thing (wifi router??) is located just 4m away from my desktop, but between a wall (same floor, room behind my living), would the signal be much of a difference if using wireless?
4m is not such a big distance, even behind a wall. I'm using my PS3 and laptop in another room and still getting good signal. Chances are you'll be able to get a good signal too. However there are no guarantees as there are many different factors to take into consideration such as: Other wireless interference? Cordless/mobile phones, wireless AV adapters, other computers, your own wireless adapter, etc....

3) Referring to Q2, i read about homeplugs, would it make any significant difference if i used that for my desktop which is located in the room next to the living?
Once again this is very hard to say. Homeplugs will depend on your wiring within your house. You'll have to try in order to know. There are only 2 advantages of using a homeplug:
1. Your device is unable to detect the wireless signal due to distance/wall.
2. You transfer files between 2 computers very often. Homeplug(most) has a rated speed of 200mbps whereas wireless 802.11n has a rated speed of 300mbps. However knowing wireless, most of the time you'll only get 130mbps for wireless-n technology. b/g will be slower of course.

4) My place is new so i haven't buy my tv, any particular things i need to make sure they provide me so i can install myself when i buy one? Or its just a plug in thing.
The IPTV device has 3 main outputs (that i can remember so far). S-video, AV component, HDMI. So go figure which one works best for you.

Just wonder, can I just buy a simple lcd with HDMI?
Will this cause only video but no sound from it?

i have 15 minutes disconnection earlier. around 12.45 until 1pm. after that reconnected again. not sure same situation like u guys. probably not

Hey guys , I subscribed to unifi a month ago with someone, installation and everything was fine but I don't have my service ID to log into the unifi website and pay my bills.
I don't have a registration confirmation slip either, only the unifi acceptance form they gave me during the installation.
Do I have to go to a TM point ? It's kinda far so I'm trying to avoid this option.

can i upgrade from unicool to unifi?

I want to register for UniFi through online so can get free 1 month. My area is covered as my neighbor already have it. But using the online registration giving me problem. When I put the IC Num, it able to found my home line and streamyx account but I think due to profile as they simply put. Now it showed unable to detect and I can't proceed with it.

Is it I need to go TM just to correct my profile then try again. -.-"

sigh... damn bad luck man

yesterday tech guy came, checked the signal at the phone pole, good. then proceed with cabling and drilling. check the signal at the end of the fibre, still good.

proceed with modem, etc installation... ended up the modem cant get connected to the internet. they troubleshoot for 2 hours and then called TM to find out why. TM called back and told them that the fibre box at the phone pole is not really connected to the internet. Something like streamyz open port.

TM can even ping the box but it's not connected. They'll come over to check but they didnt even give me any reference number.

apparently, i'm the first person to use that box in my area

Hi guys, my installation will be on 15th March. I'm living in an apartment. I've read that in apartment, it'll use VDSL2. Does that mean they will use the current telephone line that is already in my apartment? Or they will replace the wire with a new one from the MDF/SDF room?

Just got my 20mb unifi line installed today.

When the technician was here, i checked my connection speed on www.speedtest.net and was getting 20mb to a server in Malaysia

However, after 2 hours, i checked speedtest.net again, im getting only 3mb out of the 20mb i subscribed for.

Must i restart my router to get a different IP address just like streamyx to get a better speed?
