guys..what can you do with an extra unifi set? (everything minus the dect phone)

can sell ar?
*
hard to sell i think... BTU got lifetime warranty, router got 1 year but it's problematic router, i dont' think ppl will buy the same router to replace it. The set-top box also got warranty right? That one won't spoil so soon i think... I will conclude to say it's hard to sell. Coz got problem just call tm and ask for replacement. If router broken just get substitute for it, won't use back that idiotic DIR615 which dc as it likes and restart when it wants...

Can I upgrade from VIP5 to BIZ5? Does it require extra installation that need TM staff to come to my house? Cheers.

Don't know about that but I think they will come and raid your IPTV set-top box. haha...

So the IPTV is just there so that we can watch HyppTV? So if I subscribed to BIZ5, I cannot watch HyppTV is it?

IPTV is not part of BIZ5 package.

QUOTE(Vbs @ Mar 27 2011, 04:32 PM)
Hi guys, I just have UniFi installed yesterday but have already encountered a problem. My dad and I use Dell Inspiron laptops that were bought back in 2008, and both of us could not connect to the internet as we can't detect the wifi signal. My netbook on the other hand, which we got last year, was able to connect through radio signal. If we were to use the LAN cable, we could connect (on the Dell lappies)

I did a thorough search and found out that my network adapter currently supports only up to 802.11g for radio mode, while the radio signal detected on my netbook shows 802.11n (UniFi router). I then updated my network driver and hardware, but to no avail.

I have an inkling that the cause is the radio mode incompatibility issue, but I've been trying to solve the problem for hours now.

Can anyone help?
*
That is ur hardware limitation on your old laptops. I don't think 802.11n is supported by 2008 models. What you can do now, just get into the router config page,
type 192.168.0.1 in ur browser, id: operator, pass: h566UniFi->Advanced tab->Advanced wireless tab on the left->Change wireless mode to Mixed b/g/n->In addition, to ensure more stable connection, change the bandwidth to 20Mhz instead of 20Mhz/40Mhz auto.

If this doesn't solve your problem, in the wireless mode option, change it to 802.11 mixed (b/g) in which the wireless will be broadcast at G mode instead of N which is the speed of 54Mbps instead of 150/300Mbps on N mode. However, considering that the internet provided by unifi will only hit max 20Mbps on VIP20, it's sufficient to provide you full experience for you internet. If you want sharing from one laptop to another at N mode then you need to enable it. Since you said two of your laptops are 2008 models, it won't support N unless you get it an adapter or change its wireless card. You can't get connected to a N network by just updating the driver. It's hardware problem, not driver problem. Haha... Hope i helped you xD

1. the default wifi setup for the router should support b/g/n... however if you still unable to detect then perhaps you should try set it to b/g only...

2. if your wifi network adapter only support b/g then upgrading the driver won't make your adapter n... its the chip on the hardware...not software..

3. my current asus laptop was bought in late 2007 and i'm able to detect and connect to the unifi wifi router...

4. the other reason probably due to WPA2 security... some older laptops can not perform the necessary 'handshake'.... so downgrade to WPA or WEP (less secure)

*
isit??? Coz from what I rmb... The first wireless card by intel that supports N should be 5100 and 5300 i'm using in my laptop. So it's not the first... Coz i bought this laptop in mid 2009. haha... Sorry for the wrong info. But... 2007 and 2008models i think rarely supports N right... haha

QUOTE(hackwire @ Mar 28 2011, 09:44 PM)
if im not mistaken homeplug will work with 3 phase power but according to the experts, the quality is dependable on a few factors like plug to plug and best not to be sharing or using any 3 way adapters etc. Than it's better off if the connection sharing the same fuse on the main switch point.

my case, i made some sacrifice by using cat 5 cable connection for my IPTV instead of using homeplug as my AV room and PS3 had earlier setup . Further more i don't intent to subscribe to any of the lousy stations right now as i don't really have the time and catch those movies. And i hate Malaysian Censorship board. So i skip the homeplug to connection to my living hall TV. I can live with that.

Past 1 week, my attempt to get Unifi tech finally successful and these guys came to my place and give 1 to 1 exchange for my router as it's " Dead" , just one week after the installation. luckily enough, i kept a log and will request for a rebate soon.

i have no intention to change to TP-link yet as i think a contract is made between me and TM for 2 years and it's my duty to pay monthly and it's their duty to ensure i get the smooth operation. Moreover, i don't really know how to go through the configuration part for TP-link and not yet ready to fry my brain for this until i got no other choice.

I was wondering if those of you change to TPlink router so quick, wouldn't that void the guarantee ?
*
Why will it void the warranty when the firmware itself is released by TP link Malaysia?? Some more you can just buy the tp-link router and send it to their service center at lowyat and ask them to flash it for you (<-- is not 100% accurate because i'm told so by the fellow staff in All IT)... IF <-- is true, U don't actually need to fry ur head for changing the router. I have not bought the router because it's not compatible with the VDSL modem TM gave me.

I'm thinking where he went with ur guide. Lolz

QUOTE(fisherman10 @ Mar 29 2011, 12:46 AM)
under multiple wireless network name setup, there are 2 boxes.

Wireless Network Name :
WMM Enable  :  (Wireless QoS)
Enable Hidden Wireless  :   (Also called the SSID Broadcast)

if i wanna enable wifi i tick enable hidden wireless?  so to disable wifi is until "enable hidden wireless" correct?

is this just disabling wifi through software or hardware. are there still signals being transmitted out? coz it seems that my mom's having headache ever since this router came in. I used to use my Prolink router without the antenna. so maybe it's weaker.
*
When you tick "enable hidden wireless", the router is still broadcasting wireless signal in the sense that others which don't know the SSID unable to detect the wireless network but it still exists.

Follow what payebudu said,
Step-by-step:
1. Go to 192.168.0.1
2. Type in operator as ID, h566UniFi as password
If the id and pass above cannot be used, try these:
QUOTE
Username : operator
Password : telekom

Username : operator
Password : h566UniFi

Username : operator
Password : <your Unifi username in reverse order>

3. Under top "SETUP" tab, press "Wireless Setup" tab on the left
4. Press Multiple Wireless Network Name Setup
5. Untick the little box on the left of the FIRST ROW or... Should I say... UNTICK all the boxes in that page...

This should switch off it's wireless broadcasting. By the way... The antenna cannot be detached unless you break it. I think what you mean prolink router is just an adsl router for streamyx which contains only LAN port behind it in which you're connecting directly to the LAN port on your computer. In that sense, it's not a wireless router and it's generating minimal amount of emission of wave(radio wave or em wave, whatever) compared to wireless network. There's so called Wireless radiation which is said by certain people will bring negative effect to human health but the effect shouldn't be so significant. Another thing is that... I don't think your mother is sitting beside the modem all the time. She shall have kept a distance with the modem all the time right... At least my mother do so... It shouldn't bring such a big effect to anyone as wireless signal are not to say very highly powered em wave. It shouldn't bring too much harm to human body. Wondering whether your mum is having any kind of sickness. Ask her to do a body check up xD, only after you proves that it's caused by the wireless modem...

EDIT:
QUOTE
Health Issues

A small percentage of Wifi users have reported adverse health issues after repeat exposure and use of Wifi.[47]
Common ailments of "Wifi Sickness" or "Wifi Sensitivity" as described by those who have suffered include "unusual headaches” as well as one or more of the following symptoms: nausea, heart irregularities and "racing heart" rates, temporary incidents of loss of balance and dizziness, chest pain, a heating and/or tingling sensation in the face area, undue physical stress, panic attacks and/or mental anxiety, and minor cognitive impairment. A few health experts conclude there is a strong neurological component to described health issues.[48]
Concerns brought up by those who have been affected include that additional research is needed, that includes focus on whether only a certain segment of the population is adversely affected by Wifi and RF technology, or if there is a larger underlining issue that ultimately could have adverse, long term health affects to the general population as a result of the constant and repeat exposure to Wifi that has recently become common throughout many industrialized nations.[49]
Gro Harlem Brundtland, former Prime Minister of Norway and a medical doctor, certainly may be the most high profile case of someone who has suffered from such conditions, and who has actively called on increase awareness within the medical community.[50]
The World Health Organization(WHO) and the United Kingdom's Health Protection Agency report that there are no long term effects of EHS[clarification needed], noting that exposure to Wi-Fi for a year results in "same amount of radiation from a 20-minute mobile phone call." [51][52]

i really noob in this.. u mean TPlink router is not compatible with VDSL modem? pretty confusing here.
TM Dlink is a router right ? The VDSL modem is the one which connected on the phone is it?
*
In exact. it's not compatible with Huawei HG655a VDSL2 Modem.

Hi there....i do know what payebudu meant. I changed the gateway to 192.168.1.1 also. logged in with h566.... also.

what I meant with my prolink is, it's a normal wireless G router. and when I disable it's wireless, iinw it does physically switch it off. coz i feel it's not as hot as when wireless is on. and furthermore, i can just unscrew the antenna.

the reason why i'm looking for ways to reduce the power is coz I dont need the full signal strength. I just need the signal to transmit far enough through a layer of wall. my other pc is just outside the room door. My mom is always near the router as she's working from home and the router+modem+fibre cable and all goes to PC1 which is right next to her.

i was thinking, can aluminium foil block some waves? coz i've seen some ppl using aluminium foil to shape it into a bowl so they can aim the signal further.
*
I think there's something about transmit power in the router. maybe you can try that? Aluminium will do something like "reflecting" the wave. Not sure whether it blocks it. But it will do something like satellite dish which focus all the wave into a specified direction.

thanks for the info rattan. well, that's clarify everything smile.gif however they stated on their website RM0 deposit, can you clarify this?
*
That's not deposit but paying in advance for the coming month. Eg: March's Bill is charging you the internet access for march.

For you case, assume that you got ur unifi installed on 15 march, it will charge you prorated-ly from 15 to 31 march then charge you another month for april in you APRIL's bill. Get what I mean? You're paying for april in april's bill. Some sort of "prepaid??" because you pay before you use. Not you pay after you use. I tried my best to explain. lol

First bill includes a stamp duty of RM10 and installation fee divided equally for 5 months if you're not entitled for free installation.

maybe you saved ur password on ur laptop/whatever device then it will shows some phase like "the settings do not match" or something similar. If it's that case, delete the wireless network saved in your pc first then connect to it again. If it's not that case, NO IDEA. Haha

Why? Free for promo or just a system fault?

The default username/password combinations for TMnet DIR-615 routers between firmware versions 7.01 to 7.05b are :

Username : admin
Password : <blank>

Username : admin
Password : telekom

However, there is also a secondary account which must have its password changed in order to fully secure your network :

Username : operator
Password : telekom

Username : operator
Password : h566UniFi

Username : operator
Password : <your Unifi username in reverse order>
