hello,
wanna ask turbocharged car owner here, these few days i've been asking around about "which engine oil suitable for turbo system"...

some say:

mineral oil - the molecule is more stable bla bla but i cant find the logic here

semi-synthetic - i saw in some oil ads/flyers suggesting that oil the best for turbo cars

full-synthetic - got ppl said to me that this 1 too light/thin, easily dried up by the temperature

so until now, i still cant decide which 1 is the best for it..

according to manual is best, if nothing mentioned i would go for full synthetic oil, these new oils have very high resistance to shearing and wearing.

how about try fully synthetic oil buy from Petrol Station .Turbo engine are very hot and if you buy from spare part shop and the oil are fake sure will kill the engine very fast

There is Petronas oil that are made fomulated for NGV and i think this oil are good for turbo engine.

Look at the owners manual for the best recommendation. I drive an Evo 7 and Mitsu recommends synthetic 10W30. Mitsubishi Malaysia recommends 15W50 for the Malaysian climate so the engine oil I use is 15W50 Motul 6100 Synergie thumbup.gif

i think ts modified a car to turbo charge so owner's manual engine oil also need to change to suit the hotter engine.

Try Petronas NGV oil buy from Petrol Station and earn mesra point or buy Mobil Fully Synthetic 5w50 at Esso or Mobil Petrol Station that oil are for sport car

Rich people use the full syn oil....;-)

poor people use mineral oil like me.

middle class = semi syn oil. he he he

Ok i have to stop teasing ....u have to know how is yr condition of yr car? For turbo car usually will be better to use Semi syn oil that not too thin and heavy. If your car is brand new then use the full syn one.

there r some fake oil around, so beware especially whom u do not know when u buying.

Thicker oil smile.gif

Visit www.lubricant.sg for Valvoline Oil, it's USA motor Racing oil.

SAE 5W40 to 20W50 would work smile.gif

Ur car engine is quite new, u can try to put 10W40 instead of 15W50. Anyway, do get a oil temperature and exhaust temperature gauge, for BOT, sometimes it's good to monitor both temperature. :-)

Cheap bang for the buck value. But this oil cannot stand very high stress like fully syn oils. Which explains a lot of engines worn out faster. BTW u should be using oils that has very long operating value. Like 15-50 and such.

Besides oil change there's not much more to worry about, unless you run on a turbo with a water route through the turbo, have good n proper coolant and keep the water lvl in check.

By the way,if you have money to spend for good oil,do get oils that are ester based.

I'm currently use Chemlube.no point I go on about the benefits,do try if you can flex.gif

Check vacuum hoses too, check all clams are ok,pipings no leaks..boost leak or vacuum leak can be a b****.

from my experience, if you're running boost all the time, go for higher weight oils like castrol edge 10W-60..

but for normal usage where running boost only when overtaking, go for normal reputable oils. i'm using chemlube semi synthetic 10W-40 with estherbond.

but the important thing is actually how often you change your engine oil. the part that die first is actually the turbo due to impurities in the engine oil. i change mine every 5000-6000km.

You are asking the wrong question. The correct question to ask is, what grade and viscosity do you need.

Grade.
Example. A expensive Fully Synthetic oil of the wrong grade is worst off than a Mineral oil of the correct grade. Look for the correct API or ACEA or JASO rating

Viscosity
Example. If the engine calls for 10W30, 10w50 would be a poor choice. (Off topic: a Mineral 10w50 is a recipe for disaster).

the first time i had the problem, he said his stock was from singapore or something. i forgot the actual detail but it wasnt locally distributed if i remembered correctly. when i change the engine oil, it smells funny. at the same time my o2 sensor kong. so i thought maybe is my problem. the second time i bought for my V6 engine. after back from KL-Ipoh-Langkawi-KL trip, the engine burns. maddriver can confirm this. the engine oil stink like hell when we open the engine oil cover doh.gif
but i was like doing 180 all the way in the trip, i wasnt sure whether is my engine kenot tahan (10 years car) or is the engine oil that fault.
i dont have actual data to support my fact so im not going to post there. but i'm saying here as a warning and to share my experience

fitted the BOT yet? use full syn la. look for higher number of heat resistance. u see the at number ?w-40 ,?w-50, ?w-60 (can ignore the 1st ?w number as thats for cold temp and we at hot climate so it doesnt matter) the higher it is means it maintain its viscosity at higher temp.

just go to tesco and buy the fully synthetic promotion. last time i bought the mobil 5w40 fully synthetic for rm 130, quite cheap cz outside can get about rm200.

or you can try tesco fully synthetic, average good review by the user.

I'm having bot on my car as well, been using fully syn. 5w20, 5w40 and 10w40 and concluded 5w20 as my preffered choice as with it, the engine runs smoother and felt significantly faster response on the throttle too.

Guys:
Sorry for digging out an old topic. I would like to ask if anyone have moved away from the Castrol Edge Professional to other fully synthetic oils like the Petronas 7000 or Torco SR-1 for their Turbo cars?

I've been using Castrol Edge Professional but I feel this oil makes the engine "heavy" after around 6k of usages.

For BOT sometimes experience higher blow by rate, causing EO dilution after a while usage. Check your used oil against fresh one and see if the viscosity behaves similarly... If true you need to mix in 50 or even 60 weight oil.

Periodically change the turbo oil feed and return hose, can consider changing it if more than 5 years. At least get it checked once every 2 years.

Can get clogged up with carbon/debris, slowing/blocking oil flow to and out of the turbo charger, bad situation as turbo uses the engine oil mainly for bearing lubrication.

apparently, I asked my friends the same question.
and none of them actually bother to maintain their turbo..

probably mine is the smallest while theirs are AR70..

Up to you to decide since it is your car and your money that you're spending. How much does 2 hoses cost and how much does it cost to refurbish the turbo, i believe you know the calculation.

Shell helix will be fine, lexus oil not sure as when this oil was formulated, lexus don't have any mainstream turbo engine on their cars until late last year.

apparently, I  asked my friends the same question.
and none of them actually bother to maintain their turbo..

probably mine is the smallest while theirs are AR70..
I see, thanks for sharing this.

not sure if you could answer this.

for the sake of your turbo.

Please avoid Lexus. It is repackaged Sharlu.
Think about it. Are you willing to pour Sharlu(Lexus) into your engine? shakehead.gif

Just wondering, why would Lexus collaborate with Sharlu and somewhat downgrade the branding? Why not work with reputable Japanese oil companies? hmm.gif

hello,
wanna ask turbocharged car owner here, these few days i've been asking around about "which engine oil suitable for turbo system"...
some say:

mineral oil - the molecule is more stable bla bla but i cant find the logic here

semi-synthetic - i saw in some oil ads/flyers suggesting that oil the best for turbo cars

full-synthetic - got ppl said to me that this 1 too light/thin, easily dried up by the temperature
so until now, i still cant decide which 1 is the best for it..

full syn or semi syn no problem as long as the oil grade number 10-40/5-40/0-30 is follow the car service book la...

actually doesnt matter turbo car or kanciu..just follow that sure ok wan...tak reti baca service book meh?
