I remember seeing exhibition photos of MG Turn A's shoulder armors assembled backwards (beam sabers facing the front) and even HG 00R (Condenser Type)'s GN Sword III assembled upside down. It happens. Just skip to the Pros and Cons sections if you hate reading. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « BOX Box art is portrayed in landscape orientation rather than the usual portrait orientation. It shows Gundam Deathscythe-Hell (DSH) swinging his beam scythe a-la Gundam Seed Destiny. Notice the oversized bats and the Gundam’s white shoulder spikes stabbing his own head? Anyway, the box is slightly thinner than the average 5000yen kit. OUT OF THE BOX Twenty runners, mostly recycled from MG Deathscythe EW. Instruction manual cover shows the box art, minus the background. On the instruction manual, the DSH’s weapon is called the beam scissor but I shall be referring to it as the beam scythe simply because it sounds cooler. You gotta wonder why they call it scissor, like why they called RX-78-2’s morning star flail a hammer. Beats me. The instruction manual did what it meant to do, even if you can't read Japanese. That's good. ASSEMBLY It took me a bit over 5 hours to clean the nubs and snap fit this kit, where normally it would take me around 8-9 hours for a normal sized kit like MG RX-78-2 2.0. Thus you can tell that this kit is a simple one: small in size, no over elaborate backpack, and minimal weaponry. There are some unconventional assembly styles as compared to earlier MGs, like in the head and the body. These parts do not fit by themselves. They are held together by another part or two other parts. In a way, this contributed to some problems mentioned in the Cons section below. COLORS Color separation is excellent. All parts are accurately molded in their right colors, negating the use of foil stickers (except for clear parts). I like how Bandai chose to give the main body a dark grey color rather than black like on the HG 1/100 version. It gives the character a sense of depth and outlines the figure rather well against the black cloak. That said, I still dislike the purple tinge on the legs and arms though. COMPLETION It’s simple and it looks menacing. It's less than RM160. It’s light enough to be supported by the action base. This kit will be the most badass one in your collection… until you put it beside another Gundam. You see, DSH is a short Gundam. You can give a midget an awesome scythe and a dark cape and he would still look lame beside taller Gundams. In other words, he looks great alone and that’s how he should be displayed (his cloak will leave no room for other Gundams anyway). Alternately, you could pose him beside similar sized kits. Overall, it felt like i was assembling a really good HG 1/144 kit. Since it has an inner frame, i guess you could call it an RG 1/144 kit. The size complements that feel too, being slightly taller than HG 1/144 ReZEL and slightly shorter than MG 1/100 Freedom. It's not too sturdy yet it's not too fragile. It's something in between. If you're a fan of DSH or likes it simply for its badass-ness, i would recommend you pick this fella up. Otherwise, for 4500yen, you could pick up a better kit than this. I do not think Bandai would release any other variations for this kit, except for maybe a translucent Pearl Finish to go with MG Wing Zero EW. If that's not your taste, feel free to get one now. PROS - Cool and menacing looking. This is the closest thing you’ll get to Batman from the Gundam Universe. - Beam scythe, baby! - Impressive-looking cloak. Good movement range and does not get in the way of poses. - Excellent shoulder articulation. The best I’ve seen, at least until MG 00 comes along. - Good waist turn angle. - Four different styles of fingers by part-swapping (one pair of clenched fists, one pair of open palms, one pair for holding the beam scythe, one pair for holding beam sabers, swords or other similar weapons). Yes, it can hold the beam scythe nicely!!! - Two points to connect to the action base: the usual groin area and at the cloak/backpack (similar to MG Destiny). CONS - Slightly back heavy. DSH won’t have troubles standing but the upper body will lean to the back over time (like MG Strike Freedom). - Cloak expansion gimmick is prone to breakage due to wear and tear (see Precaution section). - Neck lacks a PC-joint like most other MGs. This one was assembled plastic-on-plastic like recent HGs. Will become loose. Definitely. - Hands require part-swapping and is bound to get loose to the point that it can’t hold up anything. - Very loose rear waist armors. The annoying thing is how the cloak gets in the way when you want to pop them back on. The side waist armors are slightly loose as well, but it won't bother you unless you intend to do splits with DSH. - Short upper hip peg reduces articulation. It uses a design similar to Zaku II 2.0 but it’s smaller and shorter. Any rotation of the hips at all and it will knock against his own groin and waist, limiting movement range. - Wobbly knee design. The knee wobbles. It's self-explanatory. - Only one weapon. - Space consuming due to the large cloak and beam scythe. - Rather expensive considering its size and accessories. I would say 4000yen is more reasonable instead of 4500yen. - Boring decal design. Let's just say it's no Ver. Ka. NITPICKS - Purple tinge on the arms and legs. - Very obvious nub marks in front of the upper arms and on the feet. - Hands look very weird with just a movable thumb. - Very hideous proportions, just like what Katoki did to the other EW kits (see Precautions section). - Sharp and pointy edges make it dangerous for kids and careless adults. - Impractical Gundam design: -- Shoulder spikes that stab your own head? Check. -- Long forearm armors that make it hard for you to grab stuff? Check. -- Feet that stab your own shins? Check. -- Spiky knees that make you incapable of kneeling? Check. PRECAUTIONS 1) Cloak The cloak is a bit too short to connect comfortably. If you hook them up, you're exerting unnecessary pressure on the red claws and it will break if left on for a long period of time. Best to just leave it folded to the front. 2) Cloak expansion gimmick That small part will be the one grinding inside the cloak when you expand it. It's surrounded by a circle PC-joint but that will soon wear out if you play with it often. Leave it expanded or contracted and try not to move it that much. 3) Weird proportions The proportions look okay when the cloak is on, but when you remove it, DSH looks like a couch potato with oversized legs. Here's a side by side picture with MG Wing Zero EW. Both designed by Katoki himself but the proportions differ greatly. To me, WZ has the better (or ideal) proportions. If you can't tell the differences: DSH has a smaller head, shorter arms, thinner forearms, shorter torso, longer and thicker legs, and fatter feet. That's all, thanks for reading. Beam scissors sounds really stupid but misnomers are common in gundam weapons - Gelgoog's beam naginata is a dual edged beam sabre rather than an orthodox polearm that a naginata is. Dom's heat sabre is more of a rod, while Epyon/TGIII's heat rod is actually a whip. The RX78's hammer is not exactly wrong though. It refers to the hammer used in athletic hammer throw rather than an actual medieval warhammer, but the Gundam's version comes with spikes on the ball like a flail/morning star. Note that the ancient Chinese weapon 流星锤 or meteor hammer is also similiar to the Gundam's hammer, only with two heads. And Chinese war hammers often have round heads rather than the European hammer's flathead. /geektalk Very knowledgeable. If you see Dalong's review, he is also experiencing the same problem. He placed the cloak very close to each other without hooking the claws together. It does hook up if you try your best, but i ain't gonna leave that overnight and see it broken in the next morning.

And he managed to slide it in quite easily. If both the video don't have it, maybe you can check for his earlier video, which he tried on his unpainted kit first. I'm not saying that it can't be hooked up. It can. The cloak in its relaxed position has a 2-3mm gap. When you hook it up, you could feel there's a force trying to separate the cloak. Think of a guy with 31-inch waist in 30-inch pants. What would happen to the hook on the pants? His kit was painted, so i wouldn't be surprised if he sanded down the parts a bit. He didn't even slide the hook up like in the manual. He just forcefully pushed them together from the sides! LOL. Look at how his red claws overlapping each other after he hooks them up. Something is seriously wrong there. I'll try to edit my review so it doesn't mislead people into thinking they can't connect.
