This is unfair imo. All new signings take time to adapt, whether it’s from teams within the same league or not. Berbatov for united is an example frequently used here. Looked a totally different player when he first joined them, and only this season he’s perfectly replicated his form at spurs. Torres has signed on at an ‘unfortunate’ time to put it lightly. The midfield is already half dead in terms of creativity, and torres just isn’t the type of player to create something out of nothing on a regular basis. No supply means no goals. Simple. At 27 he has time on his side, so unlike the fickle media we must be patient. He will come good, don’t worry. besides, i've read he's recouped almost half of his transfer fee on merchandising alone!  flex.gif
Germany had ozil, khedira and schweinsteiger right? Josh can be our ozil, ramires is our khedira, but what about bastian? Whatever it is, the solution has to begin with injecting more creativity into the team. Josh is definitely capable, so is studge. I think the introduction of even one of them would bring a huge difference into our play. The problem is, studge is away on loan and carlo doesn’t want to risk josh. We don’t have quality options on the bench (yuri was extremely quiet vs utd) and benayoun is our only hope now. I think he’ll get a cameo vs wigan although I’m hoping he starts.

I hear you and I will revise my 'unfair' opinion. My fervent hope is that he will return to his peak or 'prime' form. OK lets give him another season to settle down. Perhaps a new infusion of players (Neymar, Aquero?) might bootstrapped the team to CL & PL titles?
BTW did Berba sufffer the same injuries that Torres had?
Perhaps a rehab like what Rooney had in his 'rehabilitation' jaunt in the States recently might be the order?
My take is that he had ankle, knee and hamstring injuries which are deleterious. Hopefully he will not turn out to be a crock like Owen Hargreaves.
My personal opinion, based on my experience, a player is never the same after being nicked with a combination of those ligament injuries.
Ronaldinho & his trademark elastic move is a case in point. After he suffered hamstring injury was he able to perform those quick acceleration & other moves?
Similarly Torres depends on his trademark moves to score highligh goals!
Yes his shirts are selling well!

I dont think Chelsea medical staff so stupid that they unaware of those things... especially when dealing with the 50mil signing...if he passed the medical...he passed the minimum level to perform for chelsea...

Aquaman signed while nursing his injury...but after that...he performed during his loan spell in Italy...Essien performance godlike even after his long term injury...

John Swift ! Next McEachran..different style..more toward Lampard...

any1 got any idea about Jhon Pírez?? first found him in FM11 on loan from Chelsea...

No. I don't want to switch back to 433. It only works when Malouda on top form. I don't prefer Lampard playing at left forward though.

The problem now is, Malouda and Zhirkov. They are having difficult time now. I don't know what happen. But obviously, Zhirkov is A LOT better than Malouda. Zhirkov should run a bit wide to stretch our play.

Lampard should try to pass the ball properly and Essien have to stop doing all the clumsy tackles.Nothing wrong with Ramires really.

Drogba-Torres is the best combo now. I hope both of them can play tonight to build their form. I don't think fitness is a problem for them.

If we play 451, make sure we can run wide, we can cross, we can pass and have a high goal conversion rate.

451 is not a easy formation to play with, it's very hard and it need high intelligence player to make this formation works.

One bad performance shouldn't force someone to drop to the bench. I seriously doubt Lampard will be dropped.

That 3 striker combo failed badly against Liverpool, Will take a very long time to train it properly as there won't be space for our strikers to run.

hargreaves is pretty much an 18m pound write-off for united already imo. they took a gamble which didn't pay off, and were a bit unlucky in that sense. torres at the very least has proven he's not as susceptible to injury as i once feared. although it has to be said he does play 'intelligently' in a sense that he doesn't go diving into those 50-50 challenges when they're unnecessary. i have no problem with strikers avoiding those depending on the situation. if it doesn't directly lead to the detriment of the team and means preventing serious injury then i'm all for it. an example of a poor decision to refrain from a 50-50 challenge was when luiz pulled out of the tackle which lead to walters having a free run and dispatching his goal for stoke. however essien has to bear part of the blame as well.

it is true those niggly injuries will take a toll on a player's 'normal' movement. ronaldinho showed flashes of brilliance at milan, but it never quite got to the level of his samba-inspired performances for barca. as for torres, he isn't quite as reliant on fancy moves to get past defenders although we've seen it during his time with pool. his speed is still there, but we may have to wait a little longer to see him going on a mazy dribble or two, because his confidence isn't too high atm. those delicate passes and accurate crosses when he's playing off the shoulder of the last defender, remains the 'bread and butter' for his goals. its just sad we can't provide him with those consistently, yet.

we have to make it work, as we don't have much choice. if it means experimenting with nico in midfield in place of yuri/malouda, so be it. at least nico can bring some creativity when he's in the mood. 4-3-3 will only reveal the problems we already knew existed (mostly related to malouda's form and a struggling lamps), so we have to continue to build the understanding between torres and didier.

i just think Torres needs to smile more, he needs a hug, yea that should do it. And maybe Torres and Drog should play some board games, or Kinect, just to get some bonding.

John Terry is rested so Frank Lampard is captain. Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka are the front two.

David Luiz will partner Branislav Ivanovic in central defence and with Jose Bosingwa out due to illness, Paulo Ferreira is right-back.

Michael Essien is on the bench due to rotation so John Mikel Obi comes into midfield. Alex is back on the bench having been out since November.

Wigan make on change. Mohamed Diame replaces Victor Moses in midfield.

Chelsea are expected to line up in the following 4-4-2 formation:

1 Petr Cech
19 Paulo Ferreira
2 Branislav Ivanovic
4 David Luiz
3 Ashley Cole
7 Ramires
12 John Mikel Obi
8 Frank Lampard ©
15 Florent Malouda
39 Nicolas Anelka
11 Didier Drogba

Subs: 22 Ross Turnbull, 33 Alex, 18 Yury Zhirkov, 5 Michael Essien, 10 Yossi Benayoun, 21 Salomon Kalou, 9 Fernando Torres.
