are u comparing android and symbian? if so, then android wins both without needing to compete.. android come out with how many versions last year? while Symbian just drag drag and drag this minor update since december till now.. app also, android is catching up with iOS, while symbian is still taking its own sweet time getting more applications that doesnt seem to even keep up against iOS

Android again? Hehehe... finally figured out how to run Android on my Win7 tablet and replying right now using it. Just no idea how to get the wifi working. No multitouch yet but touchscreen works okay. Going to try Angry Birds see if its working.

no problem there, tech discussions are always welcomed... actually, Google is the one coming out with versions, and as for when the specific devices will get their customized updates( like HTC's that has the Sense UI), it's up to manufacturer again... of course, if they can give up their customized version, they can always flash to custom vanilla android(means native android without any customization, it's like how google released it). Not only that, there are also some custom firmwares that brings more improvement in performance by reducing some of the seldom needed stuffs. There's a huge open source community out there that makes all these possible. There are some device that manufacturers even stop updating(like the G1 for example), but the open source community still making new firmwares for them

of course, many people see flashing their device as difficult and risky, so they rather wait for the manufacturer's update, which is normally months after Google releases it. There are also devices that have bootloader lock, it locks the bootloader, so flashing to custom firmwares are way harder, like the droids from Motorola...

so yes, they can update, but not from their manufacturers, otherwise, they'll have to wait
