QUOTE(qwerty79 @ Feb 10 2011, 12:19 AM) A bit late to comment, just open my computer after a early sleep. Even if this memo is fake, it still makes sense. However, it hard to say if or will they ever abandon Symbian. Its still a pretty darn fine OS for keypad phone. Just not suitable for keyless phone.I hope they will don't jump to WP7. May be Android. This what happen when they came out with more than 1 phone for each price range. They lost focus, too many phone model in the market and they can't give regular update promptly. Smartphone need regularly update so user can get the latest working apps and bug fixes. But sadly, this news also mean my N8 probably has short life. Dont get too carried away anyway. As you can see, even with Android, updates can be elusive at times. Its not easy as plug n play. Android got a big helping hand because it was open source. With Nokia history of firmware release, you might have already ROOT it and install some other alternative ROM. That makes it no difference from buying any other brands as long as you can root it and install your desired custom firmware. If you asked me, Android is already a very fragmented market and by joining the bandwagon, they are just another android phone and has to come up with really special design or spec to awe buyers, keeping in mind by Android 3.0, there will be no custom launcher and every Android phone will bear the same UI. Just wait until Meego comes out. I think it would be quite crappy with the 1st release, but Im really interested with it. I think its more to the tablet/netbook side and not suitable for phone but all they need is to tinker with the UI and get a balance in it. |

QUOTE(spikey2506 @ Feb 10 2011, 12:57 AM) Symbian as an OS is excellent, and very resource friendly. Otherwise Angry Birds and NFS Shift won't be that smooth with just 680mhz ARM. They should really overhaul the UI only. Make it on par in terms of smoothness and user friendliness of Android and iOS. That was their mistake. The GPU acceleration is at work. Please...... |

True especially when the CEO is outspoken and has exposure to the REALITY WORLD...SYM'BYE'AN is too efficient to be compared to the like of Iphone which cant even send over bluetooth or Android that cant makes video calls. QUOTE(spikey2506 @ Feb 10 2011, 01:43 PM) Yes, I know that. I have an N8 too. An Android device also has a dedicated GPU, but it won't run smoothly on an 680mhz ARM. That's why I said Symbian is more resource friendly. I believe that you are pointing at Qualcomm MSM7227. It has a pretty old 3D engine compared to the uptodate PowerVR SGX535 in N8. There is no Android device with ARMv6/ARM11 with Added on February 10, 2011, 1:48 pm Definitely. Even HTC is very good with their Sense UI. Might not matter to us geeks. But for the majority of users out there, the prettiness of the UI counts. Just look at iDonk4 This post has been edited by andrekua: Feb 10 2011, 06:50 PM |

QUOTE(BBXiong @ Feb 10 2011, 06:39 PM) i tot N8 using Broadcomm BCM2727? anyway, Qualcomm MSM7227 uses Adreno 200, which is not good when it comes to 3D rendering, so compared to BCM 2727, it's a lot weaker Oppps... thansk for correcting me...BTW, have you encounter lag on Angry Birds? I did on some of the 3rd level. Pirated version behaved differently? I remembered lastime I tried pirated version on my N8 with HDMI, it also lag quite horribly but Nokia roadshow has none lag at all. Its quite a mystery. Havent tried it with the new firmware though. QUOTE(nicks @ Feb 10 2011, 06:59 PM) nah.. maybe memory ram low or something. sometimes i had to. sometimes i dont. That brings up another mystery. FYI, I dont use them as phone. So I only use them to play games and had nothing running in the background. Even after I end all the task in the stock task manager, it still has the same problem. Only on more complicated levels with a lot of things.have any1 here know how wed change fonts? |
