QUOTE Questioned over both the future of software updates that were planned for existing devices and whether there would be any new Symbian-powered hardware, a Nokia representative said "We will continue to modernize the Symbian experience with a selective programme of enhancements and we will launch more devices on the Symbian platform." Yeah right, how I believe.. |

QUOTE New company structure As of April 1, Nokia will have a new company structure, which features two distinct business units: Smart Devices and Mobile Phones. They will focus on Nokia's key business areas: high-end smartphones and mass-market mobile phones. Each unit will have profit-and-loss responsibility and end-to-end accountability for the full consumer experience, including product development, product management and product marketing. Smart Devices will be responsible for building Nokia's leadership in smartphones and will be led by Jo Harlow. The following sub-units now in Mobile Solutions will move under Smart Devices: - Symbian Smartphones - MeeGo Computers - Strategic Business Operations To support the planned new partnership with Microsoft, Smart Devices will be responsible for creating a winning Windows Phone portfolio. Mobile Phones will drive Nokia's "web for the next billion" strategy. Mobile Phones will leverage its innovation and strength in growth markets to connect the next billion people and bring them affordable access to the Internet and applications. The Mobile Phones unit will be led by Mary McDowell. I've read contra reports on the plans. one saying symbian will be phased out in the next couple of years. this one is suggesting otherwise. why so belit-belit? |

To me, I thought it was a good thing. Even their own staff is making noises where Nokia has taken this approach. Internally, we still do not know how badly it hits them. However, as far as I'm concern, Nokia is taking a leap by bringing their 3rd OS for their phone.
1st thing that comes into my mind, varieties of OS-es like how their phone caters to many. 2nd, I remember Nokia is also in-talks with Android. How true is this, we still do not know until their next annoucement. Eventually, Nokia wants to lay off Symbian as basic phone functions, Meego for business?? WP7 for blah blah and Android for another blah blah... Swallowing market again? Monopolying strategy?? It's a big start. It's like killing their own staff with tons. But hey, more employment = more jobs!!! This post has been edited by jbb_lkh: Feb 12 2011, 01:01 AM |

they nonstop promise us this and that.symbian 4?dual core symbian,50+ updates, true zoom,N9 ship at year 2010,E7 ship at december of 2010,then delay and delay....N8 ship at third season of 2010...
quote from somewhere. I selected Other. I’m at 11 on the scale. I still can’t get my head around it. Symbian^3 phones outsold WP7 by a huge margin without a huge marketing campaign. Symbian has 30%+ market share compared to 1.5% for WP7. Ovi store downloads have been increasing steadily. I still can’t see a rationale. Nokia is hugely profitable, they’re not close to bankruptcy. How could they throw everything away (Symbian, Meego, Ovi services) for a platform that has no traction and is functionally inferior to their current OS? I just don’t get it |
