Hi all,

I'd like to bring to your attention about a personal experience of mine on a pet grooming service I received recently. I have sent my doggy (a 11-month-old yorkie) for basic grooming service at Lee Pet Supply, USJ Taipan on last weekend and an incident happened where a piece of flesh has been cut off from my poor puppy's left ear. I left my puppy with them in the shop and they promised to give me a call when the grooming is done. When they called me up everything sounded very normal where they informed the grooming is done. Only when I arrived at the shop to pick up my puppy, I was informed of the incident. No wonder my always cheerful puppy unlike her usual self, is lying flat in the cage. They even had my puppy bathed, brushed, top knot tied up nicely with ribbon like this shit never happened. Why didn't they call and inform on the spot when the incident happened? Aren't they aware that a groomer could not afford such a mistake? Don't they even care about the pain that the poor little puppy is going through? If they can't handle the grooming why can't they just let me know honestly rather than cutting a piece of flesh off her ear? When I was aware of the incident I did not really bother to quarrel with them as the 1st thing that popped up in my mind is to send my puppy to a vet. Sadly, the vet said the damage is permanent and now she has to bear with the marking on her ear for the rest of her life. Imagine my heart broken into millions of pieces... It's easy for them to say they're compensating with 2 free grooming sessions (which of coz is pointless for me as I'd never visit again even if it's free for life) and that my puppy would not sit still for them to groom. Hey! If you're a professional groomer you should be well trained to handle dogs of all temperament and of coz dogs won't sit still, they're dogs not human!! They should stop mentioning in their ads they're providing PROFESSIONAL grooming service when clearly they're NOT. Below are the details of the shop and if you're planning to send your doggies in for whatever service they're offering, please think twice.

Wow. That's a very poor way to handling that incident. Should have given you a call when it happened. So sorry to hear about your furkid.

How much did they charge you for the grooming? (or would have if the injury hadn't occurred) and did you check for professional grooming certification displayed in the shop?
I'm definitely not trying to reduce the blame at all, any injury or accident on a grooming table (or really in the care of any pet professional) is inexcusable. However there are many non-certified groomers out there who will pass themselves off as professional which is why it is so important to check the groomers credentials, certification and experience. Watch how the groomer is handling other clients and judge from there if this is a place you want to leave your dog. If you haven't been introduced by a trusted friend, ask if you can stick around for a while and watch the grooming. Although having the customer watch as you groom their dog is very stressful even for the most professional groomer, a good one will allow you to stay (you won't be allowed in the grooming room as this can distract your dog, nor should you tap on the glass or try to interfere in any way unless you feel your dog is being badly handled/mistreated.

I'm very sorry to hear about your poor pups bad experience, hope she heals up and forgets all about it soon <3. Hopefully the experience won't put you off the idea of trusting a (real) professional groomer forever, some of us really are in it for the passion and take pride in our work and standards. Fond a groomer you get on with, can chat to about anything to do with your dog and really really trust. As long as they aren't way behind with their grooming, most professional groomers love to hear about how your dog is doing, the latest mischief she has been up to and give you advice on why she is doing/not doing whatever it is that she is/isn't doing. smile.gif

my friend's cocker spaniel died in the pet grooming shop...i forgot what name...but is located at Pudu, near pudu plaza...

when my friend went back to collect her dog...to her horror, she saw her dog lying motionlessly...then she inform the staff there...it's too late...her dog is not breathing...

WHY? because they claim that the dog is not cooperative...they put the HUMAN face mask around her dog as in to shut the dog mouth...after finish grooming...they did not remove the mask...and then my friend dog die of suffocation...imagine if my friend did not go early to collect her dog...i believe none of their staff member NOTICE that something is not right with her dog...i feel ridiculous for them to use a face mask on dogs...unbelievable...

they say will compensate with a new cocker spaniel puppy...but its useless...our furkid cant be replace...consult lawyer but they need post mortem...my friend wish to bury her dog in a complete body...so she just give up to sue them...but did post around the forums and inform others not to visit the pet grooming shop again...

this happen 2 yrs back... i miss her dog too..such a good and friendly boy

I notice some pet shops has indonesian groomers (who look like their maid as well) and I dont mean to say that there is anything wrong with Indonesians at all. I was wondering, did the owner get the grooming cert and then train the indonesians to do it? Was wondering..... I would rather pay more than to send it to someone who is incompetent for my dog!!

Reading the posts here send the shivers up my spine. Business is so good nowadays for some pet shops that is SPEED is becoming more important than safety. Accidents happen when you are time pressed or becoz you take in too many dogs for the day for groomers or over work your groomers to death or simply the pet shop owner DONT GIVE A DAMN. I have walked in countless pet shops and my hunch so far tells me to avoid some of them like a leech.

Kudos to groomers out there who love what they do and we appreciate you.

Added on February 1, 2011, 12:20 amOne more thing about pet shops offering grooming services. some of them are still using old rusty cages to hold the dogs and I personally find it a put off. Cant they get the sturdy stainless steel ones for commercial use. Order la from factory. But pet owners have no choice and dont bother - to me, I find the 'environment' matters to me as well.

Sad to hear all the problems with vets and groomers
As I am living in okr, I brings my dog to DoGroom
So far so often, still ok just that she look very tired each time after grooming, my guess is that they have to stand on the table for sometime my guess ...

OMG!! Do you still have the name of the shop? It's unacceptable in the first place to use a human face mask on dogs. It's so ignorant of them to even forgot to remove the mask. So sorry to hear about your friend's incident, I'm sure her cocker spaniel is resting in peace in Heaven. Anyone out there who can recommend groomers and vets whom are genuine dogs lovers? We do not want anymore misfortune to befall our beloved furkids due to the actions of these irresponsible businessmen.

I dont have any problem with them. I have tried a few groomer. they are fine reasonable price and acceptable standard.

Is your poodle a new pups? maybe it need some training to learn how to behave not running around too much like what my Lab used to behave.

try buying a clicker and train your next dog. I am always there for my brownie when she was still a pup when grooming.

it is just bad luck. hope you can get it back soon.

Disagree with this. I do agree that a lot of dogs need better training, however this has nothing to do with the poodle's situation as pretty much any dog will run out of an unfamiliar place without their owner present no matter how well trained they are.

If your dog slips off the grooming table it could be bad luck (or bad training). If your dog gets out of a cage (due to their own cleverness of opening the door) and eats some kibble that gives them a slight tummy upset, it could be bad luck.
If your dog manages to leave the premises of the shop without anyone noticing, this is bad shop management. when dealing with live animals, you should expect that some will figure out how to get out of a cage and make your shop as secure as possible so they stay confined in the premises at least. It could be that this was a freak accident and an isolated incident, accidents do happen Not a reason to shun the groomer all together, but perhaps an excuse to be slightly more cautious.

I totally agreed with you, Divas. That is why I am always there for my brownie.

If this happen all the time then they have a serious problem with their management. I will bring my dear for grooming after CNY and will try to find out whether they have any reasonable precaution to avoid this kind of thing from happening. Rationally I think it also depends on the size of the animal that can slip out.

we can be a safe driver and follow all the safety measurement on the road but accident still happened la. unless we drive tank on the road. right??

But let say who to blame if one of the dog jump off the table while grooming and bite a customer? and you are the customer.

I cant simply rely on what other people say and I will try to find out what really happened. Or maybe some competitor trying to affect their reputation. I just not convince to rely on that post and comments and choose another groomer for my dear.

gong xi fa chai to you and hopefully the owner can find back the dog if it is really missing. icon_rolleyes.gif

Groomers fault: All dogs should be slung up when on the table and not being attended to by a groomer smile.gif.

But i do understand your point and it is exactly what i was trying to say. It is terribly sad that this happened and there probably is someone to blame but one incident like this doesn't mean the shop is totally responsible, every shop will have one or 2 slip ups as no one is perfect and certain circumstances arise where there really is nothing you can do (but at the same time you still have to take all responsibility and resolve the problem to the best of your ability).

Yes this petshop is really bad, they even locked my dog in a small cage that doesn't even suit his size. The cage make him standstill in it and can't even turn around, they will only change the cage to the larger one in their back room only after i complaint them the next time. There's one time i found that my dog's tail also hurts by them, it's tail bone is swollen and curved to another side after he came back from the groomers. Since then, i don't bring my dog there anymore. Anyone got good groomer to introduce around usj area?
